Poll: If She Runs, Palin Faces Doubts from Public

(CBS)
If Sarah Palin is resigning her position as Alaska's Governor to run for president, she faces doubts – even from Republicans – about her ability to be an effective one, according to a new CBS News poll.

Less than one in four Americans, 22 percent in particular, say she does have the ability to be an effective president. Only 33 percent of Republicans say she does.

Sixty five percent of all Americans, and 51 percent of Republicans say she does not.

In this CBS News Poll, conducted one week after Palin announced she would resign, these assessments are even more negative than they were among registered voters before last year's presidential election. Then, 37 percent of all registered voters thought Palin could be effective if it became necessary for her to take on the job, and 53 percent did not.

But many Americans agree with Palin's criticisms about news media coverage of her. Forty-six percent say the media has been harder on her than they are on other political figures. And that percentage rises to 66 percent among Republicans. Only 7% say the media has been comparatively easier on Palin. Forty-four percent of all Americans, and 29 percent of Republicans, say the media treats Palin the same.

During the campaign, a majority of voters agreed that the media had been harder on Palin than they had been on the other candidates.

And assessment of the media's coverage of the other 2008 female candidate, Hillary Clinton, was much the same as assessment of Palin's coverage: in May 2008, 45 percent of registered voters thought the media had been harder on Clinton than it had been on other candidates.

Palin never had the skill and background to be President. Also Palin the energy wizard is lecturing Obama, what a joke. There are interesting related posts at http://iamsoannoyed.com/?page_id=588

Sarah Palin is an enigma to the main stream media whose far left doctrine is challenged by someone who does not worship at their alter of liberal socialism. Would I vote for her in 2012? It would depend on who else is running. Let?s see what happens in the next three years. But, she is more prepared then Obama was when he was elected to the Senate. While he did not official resign from the US Senate or from the IL Senate he did little except prepare for the White House run. He ran as a socialist and pro-government anti-citizen platform, but CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and ABC spun his comments to make him appear to be a moderate with the interest of the people in the forefront of his agenda. Those who had the audacity to listen and report on his socialism where deemed to be ignorant, racist and having wild eyed conservative leaning s (I?m not sure why those who believe in the US Constitution are considered evil!). Not liking George Bush was not a valid reason to embrace Obama. Where are those who screamed at the cost of keeping the terrorist from our shore? Why are they not screaming about Obama and Democratic Congress spending more in three months then we spent in defending ourselves for 8 years under President Bush? My choice in 2008 was Joe Lieberman and for 2012 Lieberman/Romney.

rwassel,
you are now showing how dumb you are...not because you don't like Sarah Palin, but because the University of Idaho happens to be a great college. It has a law school and an engineering school along with a lot of other great degrees. I don't mind when people put down something they understand, but you obviously don't know what you are talking about because you clearly don't know the facts. Spotting nonsense is spotting nonsense, and you clearly are where as this fine college is concerned. Just because she went to school in Idaho doesn't mean that Idaho has nothing to offer. Do you even know where the state is. Most of you blowholes don't even know geography, let alone facts. Look it up before you make an ass of your self.

Palin, staying on the national stage, will poloraize the GOP for a long time. The conservative right will never want to reach out to moderates because they will rally around Palin. They're too arrogant and stubborn to see they are shrinking their own party. All the Republicans who feel like their party needs moderates to win an election will be pushed out as long as Palin stays around.

She is not good for the GOP

No kidding. Anyone who thinks this woman is qualified or ready to be president is delusional. Really.

She's not mentally stable enough to be president. Did you see the editorial cartoon which showed a car with this bumper sticker: PALIN FOR PRESIDENT 2012-2014 1/2.

mortarman!! why don't you grace us with some intelligent points as to who would be a better leader for america. as an independant you must have an opinion.

Mortar thinks that the Department of Defense, Coast Guard, Air Force, Dept of the Energy, and the Dept of Education are all "unconstitutional", because the founders didn't include them in the original Constitution.

Seriously - those were HIS comments.

2 out of three say she doesn't have the horsepower.

Before she opened her yap she had a better approval rating than that.

Wonder why, eh?

The economy matters and it may seriously impact midterm elections. The largesse of the current majority party to their perceived friends and interests may turn out to bite them in the rear end. It may turn out be déjà vu all over again as in 1994, at least "Newt" Leroy Gingrich hopes so.

The majority party needs to be cognizant of their arrogant ways in conducting climate warfare and Gore's threat of global governance. God forbid!

If conservatives want to actually have a chance of winning the next election they will have to pick someone other than Sarah Palin. I'll admit she is a pretty woman but she will best writing her books, fishing with her husband and taking care of her children. Perhaps a little moose hunting between all the other stuff. Perhaps if she could have taken more time and reinforced her "core American values" at home her daughter Bristol would not be having children out of wedlock. She already has too many rumors and controversy surround her to lead the American nation anywhere. Heck, I usually vote Republican and I could not willingly stand behind her.

She does not have ENOUGH support to run, but SOME support her JUST BECAUSE the Liberals are making fun of her. This infuriates the far right and they will CREATE some inane reasons she should run. It is also partly due to the fact that there are sooooo few Repugs in the picture. They are out of ammo for major offices. Maybe due to this paucity of candidates, Cheney will run... LOL.. now THERE is a solid choice (I think he may be the only Repug w a lower rating than Sarah)... Cheney/Limbaugh in 2012. They might actually carry a state... Mississippi... LOL

If Sarah's "point guard" analogy were to hold true, it would mean she would have to pass the ball and then run off the court to the locker room, get dressed (would LOVE to watch THAT!), and go home to a rich daddy who was ready to install her in a six-figure posh job in his company. Expect Sarah, before she gets too old and ugly, to pose nude for Playboy for about $2.5 million. Why not? It's what Mavericks do!

Sarah is the Hillary of the right. So many on the right hated Hillary because she was a "shrew"! Here we have the same ambitious personality and intensity and the right LOVES her. LOL The BIG difference is that Hillary is a brillant woman with a law degeree and was a well-admired senator by both left and right colleagues. Sarah is not brilliant, not well educated, not experienced or admired for any governance she may have performed. That will come out in spades if she ever again runs for a major office. The cat is out of the bag and she will not be able to fool anyone again with her beauty pageant charm and her mangled sentences. Her free pass has expired.

People voted for Obama (peace be upon him) because he is black.

There may have been SOME that voted for him because he was black. But MOST voted for him because he is SMART and not a warmonger.

The ONLY reason women voted for Palin was because she was a woman. And the only reason men voted for her was because she was hot. They didn't vote for her because she was smart, because she ISN'T.

Does Sarah Palin have the ability to be an Effective President.

What a Seriously Loaded Qusetion that can only be answered with "LOL" Hahahahahahahaha.

When a Gov of a State who is running for V.P is making a speech in New Hampshire and makes a statement that she is in the Beautiful North West, there is something wrong with Sarah Palin.

Sarah You Stupid ______________ the North East and North West are about 3,000 miles apart and somebody who does not even know where they are Geographically has no Business being in Public Office, especially President or Vice President.

Sarah you also used the line "THANKS BUT NO THANKS" countless time last year and it turned out to be a Huge Lie on Your Part and the State Of Alaska's Part. Sarah you are a Laughing Stock and its going to be some real Good > SNL, Mad TV, David Letterman, Kathy Griffin, Lisa Lampanelli, Katt Williams comedy if you do run for President.

Far from a "Beacon of Light" or what ever else the far right might call her---- She is a loser, plain and simple and 65% of the American people know it.

She's not qualified, won't be qualified, and can't win.

She's far right, not a turn to the middle, far right, Republican base oriented and that's puts about 27% of America behind her. What does that do? Solidifies the fact that Republicans can't win, are ready to run anyone new, simply to prove a point only.

If you haven't read the Vanity Fair article you should, even though no sources are supplied, we've seen her for what she is and it's easy to see how she handles (or does not) things.

Her ambition is moose sized. Her following is pea sized.

Best bet? Republican Party tells her to take a nice long Alaskan hike and never show her face again. Run her or associate her with those seeking election---Toast, smell the burning?

Com'on Republicans get smart.

Wow. You do scare easily!

When you have women voting for her BECAUSE she is a woman, and you have men voting for her because they think she's HOT, and makes their "little man" stand at attention, you've got a problem. People SHOULD be scared.

Mortarman,

Exactly! I think it's much worse to vote on race alone.
by toldyouso29 July 13, 2009 9:10 PM EDT
Neither is worse than the other--because voting on looks or color will not negate the shortcomings of any candidate. Obama is a party man--pure and simple--a vote for him was not about change except he is the first AA president--but his agenda and motives are as murky and disgusting as Bush's at first glance.

Palin is an idiot. Of the two, I prefer the candidate that we can control more easily--we worry about Palin, not because she is not uncontrollable--but in her ignorance--who would also ride in on her coattails. of the two--voting based on a woody is the nastier--America has been voting for President based on race for over 200 years.

If we were not voting based on race, denigration where Harold Ford or Dukakis could lose due to the invocation of scary black men or oversexed black men--and castigations of McCain fathering a black child (indicating oversexed black women) would never have been possible or acceptable to the electorate.

Wow. Good thing we got an intelligent VP...

....While campaigning in Missouri, Joe Biden calls upon State Sen. Chuck Graham to "stand up," despite the fact that he is in a wheelchair.

....While campaigning in Ohio, Joe Biden says that "J-O-B-S" is a three-letter word.

....In a rare but memorable gaffe on the stump, Barack Obama declares at a campaign event in Oregon, "I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go." ooppppsss, that was Obama (peace be upon him)

....Joe Biden claimed that Franklin D. Roosevelt got on television in 1929 to talk about the stock market crash, despite the fact that he wasn't president yet and only experimental TV's were in use at the time.

....On the day of his announcement, he mused about Illinois Sen. Obama: "I mean, you got the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy."

....and so many, many more!!!
