Obama: Ahmadinejad Should Answer To Victims' Kin

(AP)
President Obama today dismissed Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for him to apologize for criticizing the Iranian government's violent crackdown on protesters allied with reformist politician Mir-Hossein Mousavi.

"I don't take Mr. Ahmadinejad's statements seriously about apologies, particularly given the fact that the United States has gone out of its way not to interfere with the election process in Iran," he said.

"I would suggest that Mr. Ahmadinejad think carefully about the obligations he owes to his own people.," Mr. Obama continued. "And he might want to consider looking at the families of those who've been beaten or shot or detained. And, you know, that's where I think Mr. Ahmadinejad and others need to answer their questions."

In a press conference following a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel Friday afternoon, Mr. Obama continued to offer stronger rhetoric concerning government violence against protesters in Iran, referencing the government's "ruthlessness" and saying "the violence perpetrated against [protestors] is outrageous."

"And despite the government's efforts to keep the world from bearing witness to that violence, we see it and we condemn it," he said. "As I've said before, the Iranian people will be the ultimate judge of their government's actions. But if the Iranian government desires the respect of the international community, then it must respect the rights and heed the will of its people."

The president also said that there is "no doubt that any direct dialogue or diplomacy with Iran is going to be affected by the events of the last several weeks." He said he doesn't know how that dialogue will be affected since the situation has not yet played out.

Mr. Obama criticized an Iranian government "that cannot deal with peaceful protesters who are trying to have their voices heard in an equally peaceful way," saying it "has moved outside of universal norms, international norms that are important to uphold."

"Chancellor Merkel and I share the belief that what's happened in Iran is unacceptable when it comes to violence against its own citizens," said the president.

Merkel said "we have to work to it that the Iranian nuclear program is stopped, that Iran does not get possession of a nuclear weapon."

"Over the past few weeks, we have seen horrifying scenes, looking at how, for example, the security forces there dealt with demonstrators," she added. "We will not forget those. And let me say that we shall do everything in order to identify the exact number of victims, who those victims were, how they've dealt with those demonstrators."

The Confederates, the roots of the Republican Party fought and died for nothing when they tried to secede from the Union. I know that my forefathers that fought in the US Civil War were superior in every way to the inbred southern vermin enemy. These southern traitors offspring now make up the backbone of the Republican Evangelical Freaks Party.

What is it with this Bo & our smart SOS? In less than 6 months our SOS goes to Mettle East, N. Korea, Afghanistan to make it known to the people that the Savior has come. In that short space of time N.Korea has set off atomic bombs an taken control of that region. The Taliban has taken over Pakistan & Afghanistan & terrorized the people. The Somali Pirates & Muslim Militants of Kenya have beheaded the witches & burned them at the stake alive. Cut off hands & legs of innocent people in Mogadishu. China is threatening to take the World off the Dollar Standard. On top of all this Michael Jackson, Ed McMahon, & Farrah Fawcett are no longer with us. I'm Appalled & outraged! But then I hear BO in the background Calling cheer up things are going to get worse. So Sad!

BO with the help of our smart SOS will walk all over him in a debate. cackle cackle cackle

Newsflash Obungler: Ahmadinejad is INSANE - cannot reason with an INSANE person - see Pyongyang for more clarification and another example of an INSANE dictator! Kumbyah and "HOPE"/"CHANGE" does NOT apply in these circumstances...!

Not to be too flippant, but Ahmadinejad could come back and tell Obama to "Answer To Victims' Kin" of the civilians being killed by the bombs from the unmanned drones in Pakistan. Just looking at the Devil's advocate point of view.

So it's the President's fault that Ahmadinejad was reelected? What else... The direction of the gulf stream, global warming, the orbit of the moon?
I never imagined that with America in crisis from several directions the citizens would have to witness the President's administration under attack by conservative Repubs.Like afriend said the other day.Hell, forget the North Koreans, Taliban, and Ahmadinejad. They wouldn't get through the waves of attacking republicans to do any damage.I know the President wants to take the "high road" but the situation calls for the gloves to come off. My President can win any fight because... he's wirey but but several million of us have his back.
Attention Repubs. you put ice on your bloody nose, and a steak on your black eye.

So far we have an American president calling out an obviously corrupt and brutal regime. At this stage of the game, given our own recent history of governmental corruption and brutality, our only legitimate response is to cry "shame".

In fact the Iranian vote for change and subsequent (reasonable) uprising against an obviously manipulated count is an offshoot of our own (hopefully) successful regime change. The Iranian protestors are at least standing against their government's derailing of the "democratic" process. In 2000 we sat on our hands while the Supremes bought off Bush's even more blatantly obvious election theft.

A reminder to those bloodthirsty cons who are throwing darts at the "O" man because he isn't assertive enough.....
NONE of the candidates are pro-West. The Iranian populace is not about to abandon their "Islamic Revolution". The union between mosque and state is still very much a part of the Iranian constitution; no one is about to mess with that. And in the eyes of all of the candidates and about 90% of the people, Israel is still an outlaw state.

The only matter of consequence is that the will of the majority of Iranians prevail. Even if Ahmadinejad DID get a majority of the vote, he still got far less than the 50% needed to avoid a runoff no matter what any media mouthpiece claims. Our support of the protest movement must be based on our desire that the peoples' voice be heard and not - repeat NOT - on any possible political or economic points we may score, now or later, in the Middle East.

Considering the GOP record, it is about time for them to apologize for their impeachment proceedings on President Clinton. Tell me more about the GOP and moral values.

Iranian President rushed to hospital this evening after hearing of Obama's comments. "I thought he was in status epilepticus" said his personal physician. "But no. He was just laughing his head off." Mr. A-Madmanjihad is said to be resting comfortably.

perceptions5:

The GOP approach is not that much different than Mr. Ahmadinejad's with his bunch. We are very fortunate to have the GOP in a minority. I think it is important for them to have a voice and we all need their cooperation. However, we don't have a chance of improving until the GOP shapes up. George Bush was America's Ahmadinejad.

Obama is right and is already a much more mature leader of people than Ahmadinejad or Bush. The world knows it and so do we.

So it's ok for the GOP to have a voice? That is so long as you agree with it...CLASSIC! Long live freedom of speech so long as the libtards agree with what one is saying...when is the next car burning peace march?
by libtoad June 26, 2009 2:57 PM EDT
WOW - strong "words" from the teleprompter - I'm sure Iran is shaking in their boots!

Maybe some good ol' fashioned "HOPE" and "CHANGE" rhetoric will fix'em!

Ahmadinajihad does not have the support of his people much like George W. Bush, they are the same thing on opposite sides.

The Younger Iranian Generation will continue to fight for their rights and will eventually change Iran, much like the Americans have done (are doing) to releive themselves from the ills of Conservatism.

Obama -- and America -- are still living off President Bush's successes in the war on terrorism. For the country's sake, may those successes outlast Obama's attempt to dismantle them

by libtoad June 26, 2009 2:59 PM EDT
Funny how Obummer doesn't blame Bush for those successes fighting Islamic militant jihadi's...but then again, how could he? Since Obungle wasn't PRESENT for many of those congressional VOTES!
by gravyboat3000 June 26, 2009 1:39 PM EDT
"Freedom Fighters"?

*** are you talking about?

Protestors, purhaps?

And what would you have him do?

(yeah, callin 'em names would have done the trick)

lmao

You're just a partisan hack, you just spew what the right wing media tell ya to.

Very funny.

"adopting another Bush position"?

That's funny, on one hand, you're sayin that President Obama should have done what Reagan did, and call Iran an,"Evil Empire", and on the other, you criticize the President for continuing Bush's policy on Iran? Didn't GW refer to Iran as being a part of the,"Axis of Evil"?

How hypocritical. And we ALL see how Bush calling NK and Iran,"Evil", worked out, haven't we.

Again, LMAO @ you, and the rest of the Right Wing Lemmings...

Well Ronnie Reagan and Tricky Dik Nixon sure thought so? So did Gov. Rhodes of Ohio. None of them has ever offered a word of apology.

Well, Tricky and Ronnie may be apologizing a lot now that they're in Hell, but we can't hear them any more.
by vistavermin1 June 26, 2009 1:34 PM EDT
Let the mainstream media purr on about this president's mastery of government. My sense is that he is out of his depth. His dithering over the Iranian protests is but one bloody example

Yeah it's like the American People can't think for themselves... THEY need to tune in the Right Wing Shock Jocks huh? LOL Look, as you slide off into the dust of history, think about this. WE the PEOPLE went to the Ballot Box in Record Numbers and elected this VERY Intelligent Young Leader because we had seen all the failure and chest pounding we cared for. Now you can deny that fact and deny the OBVIOUS change this Young Leader has brought in the world in a very short time, blame it on the Media or put your hood and sheet on and ride around town shouting your Love for Rush...it doesn't matter. America LIKES their new Leader.

The mainstream media all chasing FOX' tail...
by vistavermin1 June 26, 2009 6:54 PM EDT
VERY Intelligent Young Leader skyk- where do you get the intellignet part?? He was breed by a women who was so stupid she got PG'ed outside marriage and bore a illegitimate son. And the father was a drunk wife beater who showed no notable skills except for inpregnating any broad who would spread her legs.

I've seen you call Obama VERY Intelligent person before and my reply is not from the gene pool he came from.. Notice that none of Obama grade have been released, Gores and Bushs were but not Obama that's because his grade are nothing anyone would want to see. But what do you expect from the Affirmative Action President....
