Gupta Withdraws From Consideration To Become Surgeon General

Gupta, a neurosurgeon, pulled out from consideration "in order to continue devoting time to his medical career and of course his work at CNN,” according to CNN U.S. President Jon Klein.
Jerry Farrell, head of the Commissioned Officers Association, which represents the group overseen by the surgeon general, told Fox News that possible candidates have been calling his office to express their interest in the job now that Gupta has withdrawn and “the bidding process [is] open again."
News broke in early January that Gupta had sat down with President Obama and had been offered the position. It looked likely at the time he would take the job.
"He has asked for a few days to figure out the financial and logistical details of moving his family from Atlanta to Washington but is expected to accept the offer,” the Washington Post reported at the time.
Since then, however, there has been little discussion of Gupta taking up the offer. Had he done so, the CBS News and CNN contributor, who had been a White House fellow, would likely have become the highest-profile surgeon general in U.S. history.
Gupta did not attend today’s health care summit at the White House.
Best-selling author Mitch Albom on his first nonfiction work since "Tuesdays with Morrie."
Gupta has built a lucrative media empire that includes appearances on CBS as well as CNN and book deals. He had expressed concern to friends about the financial impact on his wife and children.
The choice of Gupta as Surgeon General -- the head of the commissioned corps of the U.S. Public Health Service -- was controversial from the start, as critics questioned his qualifications and experience."

It's more like he doesn't want to give up his work at CNN.
He probably likes being a "celebrity", so he isn't going to want to give that up.

Actually they should be doing TIME for their criminal actions....along with their glorious leader Comrade Bam Bam!

Well, I'm sure that Dr. Gupta's ideology would not support his having to work for $100,000 a year in one of Comrade Bam Bam's cheap arsed government clinics...where some ACORN employee who can barely put a sentence together will be watching on one of Comrade Bam Bam's big brother computers deciding whether Dr. Gupta is treating the patient 'cost effectively'!!!!
Dr. Gupta's ideology must be about 180 degrees from the ideas of this communist.

- This should most certainly and most deservedly open the door for Dr. Howard Dean, whom I always felt would be the best possible choice for HHS, and even FDA would be a large enough and challenging enough job for this great American. Here are two of my articles on Howard Dean for HHS:

Please take the time to email both President Obama and VP Biden in support of Dr. Dean as Surgeon General; I believe the very future of American Health and Illness Prevention is at stake, given the corporate onslaught into the regulatory processes we are supposed to trust and depend on; I welcome your insights and ideas! Who else would you trust for designing a complete overhaul of the FDA, the Department of Health, and the Surgeon General's functions more than Dr. Howard Dean?
Thank You!
