Chris Matthews’ "Oh God" Blooper

As Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal walked out to rebut President Obama last night, MSNBC's Chris Matthews uttered two words on a live mic that quickly echoed through political circles: "Oh God."

The Hardball host later said that he was "taken aback" by the stagecraft of Jindal's entrance. He had already prepared a statement explaining his reaction on Hardball later on tonight.

After the words were uttered, news outlets and blogs had plenty fun with it, speculating about who could have dropped the comment, since it was unclear during the broadcast. Keith Olbermann, Matthews and others were among the candidates. The Huffington Post even made a poll about the comment, with 32 percent of respondents correctly guessing it came from Matthews.

Politico points out that this is not the first time Matthews said "oh God" on a live mic. He did the same in 2007, when Ron Paul was responding to a question during a GOP debate.

Oh God... is exactly what I was thinking as well. Sorry guys but Jindal needs a consultant on image projection, public speaking and a few other skills which every politician needs to connect with the public.

I was thinking.. where's the tutu and ballet shoes?... and his facial expression was equivalent to a Miss America contestant. I was so distracted I had to restart my DVR and listen to his speech a second time.

Unfortunately, not looking at him did not improve my opinion of the "substance" of his speech.

The Republicans need something but, the same old play, from the same old playbook isn?t in the best interest for Americans and what is needed to be accomplished to reverse the slide of our Nation as a direct result of Conservatism.

"Oh God!" Bobby Jindhal has been exposed as an opportunistic political hack. His appearance after the astonishing performance by Obama may not have buried his coffin, but certainly hammered a couple of nails in it.

Palin/Jindhal in 2012! LOL

I didn't know Mathews one of those idiots that believes in god. As for the Repugnicans they are now in the same place as the Denublicans were 8 years ago. Just sit back and enjoy the 8 year ride while both sides of the WWF try to spend their way out of this mess. What a true sign of stupidity it is that these bloggers here think there is a nickles difference between these parties. HaHaHaHaHa

It is normal for a Governor to provide the party response when the President of opposing party gives a speech to both Houses of Congress.

nevminer: Constructive debate does require compromise when necessary, provided the opportunity for debate is given. At times, quick and decisive action is required to avert a potential disaster. More to the point quick, decisive, and correct action is required. One of the reasons for America's economic predicament is clear. Simply put fiscal irresponsibility. If the intent of the Republican minority was only to obstruct progress on a possible solution to the economic crisis, that problem can be remedied at the next election cycle. Bold, aggressive action is required to unravel this economic mess, as long as it is focused and deliberate. The ear marks seem to be a legitimate point of concern worthy of debate; particularly in these tough economic times. Fiscal responsibility should be exercised by the Democrats, or they too can be reminded of a painful lesson recently learned by the Republicans. Thank you for the coversation.

Oh God!! The governor who did not want to receive stimulous money and use it to help his constituents is about to speak!!!

Oh God!!! This is the person being used to build up the popularity of the Republican Party!!!

Oh God!! Please help the Republican party find someone better to be their front person!!! If this is the best they got, it will be a landslide in 2012!!

Oh God!! A reporters biggest nightmare....dead bottom lost arguments being used to make a case to resist change!!!

I wonder what followed "Oh God" after the microphone was cut off.

Free advice to Matthews-
Assume the microphone is turned on......respect Governers since they are the leader of one of our great States....it is best to use God's name in prayer.

So where is this civility and tolerance when someone isn't from the Democrat camp? It seems perfectly okay to be rude, crude, politically incorrect and racist if the person in question is NOT a Democrat.

Republicons don't understand what is it this thing called civility. Whatchamacalit? It's kind of a genetical thing, let me put it that way.
It's kind of hard to explain... it's like imagination... they have in so short, that is just naturally indistinct for them.

What a ass! Matthews is in the same boat as Limbaugh a racist, but he gets away with it("out sourcing"?) because of the liberal media slant. I was sure Keith said it, but he just signed a new contract so Matthews took the heat

Poor Re-puke-lick-cons! You can't help but feel pity for these miscreates of nature: they are lost!

They feel like Adam in mother's day! They don't know where to go!
They look like blond chinese: wanting but no go!
I'm having such a ball!

I can't help but feel so superior that it hurts me to believe we had the times we had!

What it was worth a poll, is the face of Fox's commentators at the end of Woody's comment:
it was so funny, that I almost choked on my malbec!
They were avoiding to look at the camera!
They didn't know where to put their eyes!
It was the most pathetic demonstration of desperation, embarrasment and desperation!
They have no idea what they're doing nor what can they do!

Sometimes, being cynical, I feel like the 8 damnest years we had, are worth seeing these serpents foam, creep and crawl as they are doing it now!
When I think that a Gingrich was the torchbearer of these poor things, when I think of Cheney being an icon for them, when I see the unhinged Ins Hannity and the greasy Roach Limpbag, I can't help but feel so superior that it hurts me to believe we had the times we had!

I quit reading the comics because the real humor and ignorance is on the boards that follow every news story. I did not realize that this country has spawned so many ignorant people. It must be the water with the higher level of arsenic that was approved by George W. Bush. BTW arsenic is a poison that leaches in to the water from old mines. The mining companies lobby got W. to increase the levels so they didn?t have to clean up the waste dumps.

Because he said what so many others said? This morning in the lounge before work, everyone was laughing and joking about this poor man. On the train it was a running joke as well. Posted by skyk-2009

I'm trying to understand how when it comes to Obama....Democrats want everyone to get on board or risk being called obstructive...give support...be patriotic...the man is a uniter. So where is this civility and tolerance when someone isn't from the Democrat camp? It seems perfectly okay to be rude, crude, politically incorrect and racist if the person in question is NOT a Democrat.

And to Republicans....when did it become okay to question someone's patriotism if they aren't Republican?

The inconsistancies between people of different parties is mind boggling.

I do not know who in the Republican Party picked this person to respond to a very good Speech from our President but they did a horrible job! It's hard to imagine it being worse and I, like Mr. Mathews, muttered something like this under my breath when this man walked out. Then when he started talking about things that made no sense it was mind boggling. I sounded like he was attacking his own parties response to the Storm. Strange, man and Strange Speech!

That's funny....I heard that's what 49 million people said when Obama started talking...under their breath,of course. It's rude when it's uttered on mic....it would be rude if anyone uttered it ON MIC re: Obama and I would bank they would have been escorted out and banned from any future gatherings with Obama. If you don't 'get it'....you probably never will.

That would be sweet...Matthews has about the same size ego as Imus. But Matthews is slowly gaining in being the biggest embarrassment to MSNBC....tingly, man...those dam.n tingly feelings will his ruin.

I hope you aren't saying all those folks are embarrassing for saying the truth. The only thing embarrassing was this poor man and what he had to say.

People are completely ignoring the racially insensitive remark that Matthews said about the Republicans "out sourcing" the Republican response. Don Imus was fired from MSNBC for such a racially insensitive reponse. Matthews should go the same route.

I heard that an you have totally misrepresented it. Mathews was referring to the fact that the response did not come from a GOP member of the house or Senate but was "Outsourced" to a Governor. I have the same question as an American Citizen. The Governor gave us a full account of the Standard Republican Political Propaganda while those who had handed our New President a 1.2 Trillion Dollar Deficit were no where to be seen. That doesn't bother you?
