Katie Couric's Notebook: Twilight

There's a new movie hoping to take a big bite out of the box office this weekend - Twilight.

It's based on a young adult novel by Stephanie Meyer, all about a dangerous romance with a studly young vampire. Clearly young adult novels have come a long way since "My Darling, My Hamburger."

But vampires have come a long way, too. From Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise steaming up the screen in Interview with a Vampire to the new HBO series
"True Blood," Dracula has never looked better, or further from Bram Stoker's vision.

In the 1897 novel, Dracula had white hair, piercing eyes, and foul, fetid breath. In Twilight, the teenage vampire is definitely Mentos fresh - even if he isn't exactly full of life. Eat your heart out Bela Lagosi!

Admittedly, it seems odd that these new teenage heartthrobs are literally creeps and ghouls. But I guess if the fangs fit, wear them.

Katie, I think you have managed to turn the evening news into a commentary.Your election coverage was down right sickening. Your bias was so obvious. What happened to the days when the news was given straight up with out the newscasters opinion. Guess that was bought out.

Katie , how soon we forget. Do you remember when you opened on the evening news and how you were treated, because you were a woman. Did you learn nothing. You turn around and do the same to another woman. Do you think you invited on David L for your self: NO! It was to dish out dirt on another women so they would have another one to laugh at. You need to get out in the real world, once in awhile. Sarah may not meet your standards (thank God), but she pulled herself up on her own. Not riding someone elses coattails like you know who!!Think!!! Remember what goes around comes around.

I wonder what Superman and Spiderman are going to say about all this hoopla about a Vampire.
