CBS Poll: Voters Increasingly View McCain As Negative

The latest CBS News/New York Times poll will be released at 6:30pm ET today but a sneak peak at it shows that an increasing number of voters see John McCain as running a negative campaign while more see Obama as explaining what he would do as president.

Sixty four percent of registered voters said McCain is spending more time attacking his opponent, up from 61 percent who said that just over a week ago and from 53 percent in late September. Just 27 percent said he is spending more time explaining what he would do, compared to 69 percent who said that about Obama. Just 22 percent said they thought Obama was spending more time attacking McCain, down from 35 percent who said so in late September.

McCain has denied that he has attacked his candidate more often but in an interview with CBS News’ Harry Smith, Obama said McCain’s tone has been much more negative. “I don't think there's any equivalence between what we've been doing and what John McCain's been doing,” Obama said. “Witness some of the comments that have been made just over the last several months, his last several weeks, 'Socialistic.' You know, 'Pals around with terrorists.' I mean, just - the kinds of stuff that - that I can't imagine saying about an opponent of mine.”

Tune into the CBS Evening News tonight and come back to CBSNews.com at 6:30 ET for the full results of the poll.

This poll was conducted among a random sample of 1152 adults nationwide, including 1046 registered voters, interviewed by telephone October 19-22, 2008. Phone numbers were dialed from RDD samples of both standard land-lines and cell phones. The error due to sampling for results based on the entire sample and the sample of registered voters could be plus or minus three percentage points. The error for subgroups is higher.

Obama, is to keep General Powell as an advisor, If elected and wants to re-start the draft. Perhaps its

time since enlistment is at an all time low. He also wants to send troops to Afghanistan but take them out of Iraq. I sure will be glad when all this is over lol.

"Why are some Democrats worried that Mr. Obama may not necessarily be headed to the White House?

For starters, the American people like to have checks and balances. With predictions that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will grow their liberal power bases in the House and the Senate, more Americans than reflected in various polls may decide to apply the brakes to an Obama presidency.

And I know you%u2019ve heard this before, experience does matter. Joe Biden may have inadvertently made that case for John McCain when he recently said that the world will test Barack Obama in six months. %u201CThe world is looking,%u201D he said. %u201CWatch, we%u2019re going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.%u201D I feel the American People should not have to go through this again.

"WHAT IF"....

- the Obamas paraded 5 children across the stage, including a 3-month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

- Obama finished 5th from the bottom of his graduating class and McCain was President of the Harvard Law Review?

- Obama was a member of the Keating 5? (5 US Senators awho ignited a political scandal as part of the Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s)

- Obama met his 2nd wife in a bar and had a affair while still married, and left his 1st wife after a severe disfiguring car accident?

- Michelle was the wife who was addicted to pain killers that she acquired illegally from her charitable organization?

Subtle or overt, racism can cover up, rationalize and minimize positive qualities in one candidate and emphasize negative qualities in another.

Barack Obama got his B.A. in Poli Sci from Columbia & his J.D. from Harvard U - Magna *** Laude.
John McCain graduated 894th out of 899 from the US Naval Academy.

This is your America, your future. Choose the next President on the basis of merit, not just race or gender.

Obama has been totally Negative for over a year and a half.

Of course the media is not allowed to run that, or make a poll about it.
Then again Obama has clickable links to all polls for his followers to take daily.

Obama was so negative, hateful and vile, that he got half of the Democratic Party to hate Hillary, He did such a job, they still can not accept her.

His big Money backers pressure the media to run unfavorable or smear headlines about everyone, he even emails them on what he wants them to run.

Obama leads his followers to be hateful, evil and vile, attacking and smearing his opponents. That is evident every where. Just look around.

They are so Obedient with the hatred too. If that is what obama leads people to do, and to be a follower of Obama you end up being so evil. I think he is not good for our country.

How can MCcain deny that his campaign has not been negative? Is this man delusional? Or maybe he is just absent-minded, my Grand pop has the same problem. The mind is the first to go....

ONE AMERICAN,
Did you read that they are also investigating the validity of her statement? Did you notice that her "B" is backwards which suggests this little nut case did this stuff to herself? How did her scars heal over night? I know neosporin speeds up healing but nothing does that overnight. It should be open wounds if this just occurred yesterday. But as usual, Republicans are just looking for anything to use against Obama and it hasn''t worked. Obama is covered by the blood of Jesus Christ and no weapon formed against him shall prosper. Of course, the devil will continue to try. He''s not a terrorist, he''s not a Muslim-believe it or not, he''s not a socialist, he''s not gay, he''s not arab and believe me, if he was not a legal citizen, he would not have gotten this far so please let it go!!

McCain and his supporters are just pathetic - character attacks didn''t work, so now they want to call obama''s plan socialism. Please... that fear tactic has been used so many times before - even back to JFK - it didn''t work then and it won''t work now - so since all the smears haven''t worked - they go after his birth certificate. Honestly, get a grip. The only way McCain could ever win this race is with voter fraud. In Virginia yesterday, they were having trouble with the voting computers. Everytime they selected Obama the system placed the check in McCain - We need to be on our guard - we''ve seen how desperate mccain and his supporters have become - they will cross any line

What you call socialism is the conventional wisdom practiced in the country by numerous Republican and Democratic administrations where economic motivators are included in the income tax code for the last 60 - 90+ years since the income tax was incorporated into the constitution. These motivators include deductions, credits, rate and range adjustments.

McCain who quotes Bin Laden as a reputable source now claims Bin Laden is employing reverse psychology when Bin Laden endorses McCain. More of McCain''s insincere flip-flopping by saying anything to get elected.

Senator McCain who proudly announces supporting Bush over 90% of the time. Yesterday he hauls out a laundry list of Bush failures to complain about. More of McCain''s insincere flip-flopping by saying anything to get elected.

So why would anyone that watches the elite media think anything else? If they (cbs, abc, nbc, msnbc and CNN) were credible sources instead of propaganda machines for the enemies of the Divided States of America, they could compete with the #1 NEWS source FOX. But thats not happening anytime soon. So their ratings will keep on sucking.

Even now, in the midst of an economic downturn and another war against unrestrained evil, America prospers. It is a prosperity often built on trial-and-error, triumph and, yes, even failure. But above all, it is a prosperity built on goodness and optimism.
Are Americans still optimists at heart? It is hard to say. The never-ending hand-wringing emanating from academia, the media, the entertainment industry and the Democratic Party has taken its toll. The left has made a massive investment in promoting the idea that our country is in dire need of redemption which only they have the %u201Cwisdom%u201D to administer.
In a better world, such self-inflation of one%u2019s abilities to transform an entire society would be recognized as the arrogance it truly is. Even more so for the consolidation of power by self-righteous elitists that would be necessary to pull it off. Hopefully, despite decades of woeful public schooling, most Americans still have to be coerced into accepting the idea that America, on balance, is a deficient nation.
Sadly, it%u2019s probably a close call. If it weren%u2019t, Barack Obama and company wouldn%u2019t stand a chance in November.

To be fair, many Americans believe the country is headed in the %u201Cwrong direction.%u201D But there is a difference between believing America is %u201Coff course%u201D and believing it is headed over the abyss. And make no mistake: much of that %u201Cwrong direction%u201D is the cultural rot of moral relativity, multiculturalism, and PC hyper-sensitivity directly attributable to liberalism.
No country is, or ever has been, perfect. If America has fallen short of many peoples%u2019 expectations, maybe it should dawn on them that it might be because no other country in the world has set the bar as high as we have.
Yet for most liberals, all the good we do in the world is never enough. Any shortcoming is evidence of wholesale failure, of a need to completely re-order the American landscape. Such unrestrained pessimism is both unrealistic and unseemly. It is the whine of spoiled children who can%u2019t seem to remember that half the world struggles to survive , not prosper.

Barack Obama%u2019s campaign is based on this premise: %u201CI am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal. This was the time when we came together to remake this great nation%u201D
Have we never cared for the sick or jobless? Trillions of dollars of wealth transfer for health entitlements, Social Security, job-training and unemployment insurance suggest otherwise. This (is) was the moment? Over the course of almost three hundred years, hundreds of thousands of American troops have paid the ultimate price to %u201Cheal%u201D the planet of sicknesses far more deadly and self-evident than global warming. This was (is) the time we came together? No other nation on earth comes close to matching our historical legacy of assimilation, uniting against a common enemy, righting historical wrongs or creating equal opportunity for all.
