Biden Tired of Palin's "Politics of Division"

(CBS)
From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

(MESILLA, N.M.) - Joe Biden says he’s tired of the type of politics of division he heard in Sarah Palin’s comments last night, when she told a North Carolina fundraiser that she liked to visit “pro-American parts of the country.”

“It's disappointing, and I hope it's a slip of the tongue and she doesn't mean it, but she said it. It was reported she said that she likes to visit, quote, pro-American parts of the country,” said Biden, leading into a lengthy dissection of the remarks.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I, like your senator and governor, have been all over this great land. I've never been to a state, I've never been to a state that hasn't sent its sons and daughters to serve and die for this country. Right here in New Mexico right now, there are 1,400 Mexican sons and daughters -- New Mexican sons and daughters deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Thirty-six of them have already given their lives for this country.”

“Folks, it doesn't matter where you live, we all love this country. And I hope it gets through. We all love this country. Folks, one of the reasons why Barack and I are running is that we know how damaging the politics of division that continues to be practiced by the McCain, how damaging this policy of division has been. It's time to put this behind us.”

“Folks, it is not a corny thing. It's real. We are one nation, under God, indivisible. We are all patriotic. We all love our country in every part of this country. And I'm tired. I am tired, tired, tired, tired of the implications about patriotism.”

“Folks, that's the reason why Barack and I are running. We are absolutely, totally, thoroughly confident that we can get through these difficult times and like every generation before us be better for it.”

Palin responded today to questions about her remark, telling reporters, “Every area, every area across this great country where we’re stopping and where also the other ticket is stopping and getting to speak at these rallies and speak with the good Americans, it’s all pro-America.”

“I was just reinforcing the fact that there, where I was, there’s good patriotic people there in these rallies, so excited about positive change and reform of government that’s coming that they are so appreciative of hearing our message, hearing our plan. Not, not any one area of America is more pro-America patriotically than others,” said Palin.

Biden not only went after Palin this afternoon, but also had the crowd laughing at Joe Wurzelbacher, now known famously as “Joe the Plumber” after being mentioned 26 times in the final debate between John McCain and Barack Obama.

“We’re going to start with real meaningful tax cuts. I promise you, if you're unlike Joe the Plumber…be nice if he got a license,” said Biden to cheers from the crowd.

“But, Joe the Plumber -- I know you got a lot of plumbers out here making over 250,000 grand,” he said to supporters. “Raise your hands, please.”

At that point, a young man raised his hand, which appeared to be in jest.

“There's a man,” said Biden. “Go borrow money from him, the guy in the green shirt. He makes more than two-fifty. He looks like he's only 18 years old…which means he earned it the hard way. He inherited it.”

McCain spokesperson Ben Porritt fired off an email to press members at the comments, saying “Joe the Senator continued his angry campaign today fresh from his performance attacking Joe the Plumber on national television last night.”

“While Barack Obama attacks small town Americans for 'clinging' to guns and religion, his running mate is busy attacking hardworking Americans who oppose the socialist tax policies of Barack Obama. If anyone is paying attention to Barack Obama’s running mate they will see a serial exaggerator whose only job is to conceal Barack Obama's profound lack of experience, record, and judgment,” wrote Porritt, who titled his email “Biden Irrelevance Tour Continues”.

Biden speaks in Henderson, Nevada tonight as he continues a weekend sweep of West Coast states, including California and Washington.

LMAO! Joe Biden himself knows Obama''''s nasty campaigning, he was subject to it in the primaries!

The DEMOCRAPS would like their way out of a paper bag for a vote!

I used to admire Joe Biden, but turns out he''''s a total liar just like the rest of the socialists!

Posted by FromTexwlove

How is Biden a "total liar" when he''s merely recounting the actual words spoken by Palin?

Obama''s has been a highly positive campaign. ALL of McBush''s ads in the past weeks have been negative attack ads focused on Obama and NOT on the interests of Americans.

Divisiveness is Palin''s premier dark gift to the McCain candidacy. She''s supreme and superior at it and why? Her whole being lives to compete, to be the star, to take control, to win the crown, and she''s put her energies into this ambition all her life. She''s comfortable with her starring role and completely at ease with untruthful denials, troopergate for one, and she relishes her dark role as Obama basher. When she is constructive, evidently her protectorate includes those who live for profit and wealth and not those with ideas, ideals, respect for generations to come or the natural world. Yikes. I am tremendously eager for her go back home and stay there. Pay her ethics fine, read a book, learn something, grow up.

Joe Biden is my Champion. Sorry about you sour grapes people. Palin is a blight on McCain, only one he saddled himself with. Too bad if it blew up in his face.

If everyone in Delaware hates Joe so much then why do they keep electing him? Apparently the majority of people do like him.

Joe Biden and Barack Obama will be good for America. They will undo the damage that 8 years of "W" and company has done to our great country! There has been a LOT of damage, so it may take a while.

Joe the "plumber" is only getting what he deserves, and it is NOT a "liberal hatchet job". The guy lied about his income and lied about his "business plans". And he is stuck in this notion that his taxes would be higher under Obama when the math shows that they''d be higher under McCain. This sort of asinine ideological stubborness plays perfectly with the rabid foaming defenders of the liar. Good grief. We need a change.

SAD DESPERATION and DISHONOR

McCain has gone over to the "Dark Side". His campaign is so far from "Straight Talk" that there is no hope of finding their way back. It''s now "All LIES and DISTORTIONS, all of the time."

The McCain "LIE, LIE, LIE EXPRESS". Geez John. We know your campaign is now being run by ROVE hit men. Just give it up if you cannot muster even a little remaining HONOR.

You tell the truth, and the REPUBLICAN PARROT MACHINE says it''''s just the media lying to them. The PARROTS just cannot deal with reality. It intrudes on their RIGHT WING TALK RADIO FANTASY WORLD.

The BIGGEST LIES come from McCain.

McCain/Palin have been running a poor campaign and it''s showing in the poll numbers. And the desperation among the republicans shouldn''t be alarming because there is a real chance that democrats will win big across the country. And there are many ex-republicans like myself who agree with Christopher Buckley and believe that Obama is a first-class guy with a first-class intellect and temperment that would serve America well as we move out of the Bush/Neo-con era. It''s time for America''s restoration both at home and among the world. America is too good for people like Palin and McCain to lie about everything and run on old ideas/policies to win a campaign. I used to respect McCain but the real maverick disappeared behind a mask and became political robot. The republican party that I joined 25 yrs ago is not the same today. And today''s republican party has lost much credibility and respect over the past decade.

OneAmerican7: How bizarre to call it the "liberal attack machine". If there is an attack machine it is the Republican campaign. We face a very dangerous future and we must come together as a nation or more like a family to face that future or we are doomed as a nation. This hateful separation has to come to an end. We are all Americans who should be dedicated to the future of our children''s home. I believe we can work together and provide a future for our children, and the two ideologies of the two parties can work together.

Please check on report on Keith Olberman''s show tonight, Friday, that Obama''s general legal counsel has requested that the Justice Department investigate the White House and the McCain/Palin Campaign for interference in voter registration. Obama''s general counsel said that they had requested that the Special Prosecutor who is investigating the firings of the attorneys at the Justice Department add this allegation to her current investigation.

Joe Biden is NOT an elitist snob! I''ve talked with him and watched him with regular people here in Iowa and there isn''t anything snobby about him! He is warm, funny, self-deprecating and empathetic! He goes to great pains to answer questions. He speaks his mind even if it gets him in hot water occasionally. That is why we like him. It is his humanity that makes him appealing. He is precisely the rare person who can do equally well as your neighbor or as an emissary on the world stage. He seems to be comfortable wherever he is and with whomever he is around.

As always, whenever the GOP uses an attack that goes wrong, it is always the fault of the liberals and the media.

McCain kept bringing up Joe the plumber at the debate until Obama finally responded. McCain is politically savvy enough to know that the media -- including that bastion of "fairly unbalanced" reporting FOX would go look up Joe the plumber. But this is still Obama''s fault?

All of Palin''s speeches are about dividing American into "patriots" who vote for McCain and the evil "others" who vote for Obama. Her supporters believe this nonsense, and it is not just a fringe. Go look at YouTube videos of people waiting to enter McCain-Palin events in Strongville, Ohio and Bethlehem, PA. These are not fringe folk, these are everyday people who believe the unfounded and dangerous allegations spouted by Palin and confirmed by the "we report what we decide" FOX and other right-wing commentators like Limbaugh.

Palin slipped -- and expressed her true feelings -- when she said that she was glad to visit "pro-American" parts of the country. She now back pedals because it plays badly on election day, but that is precisely what she meant. It''s "good us" versus "bad them," with absolutely no regard for the fear and distrust caused by this rhetoric.

Keep up the good work, Joe the Senator! You may not get as much coverage as Palin but you''ve got my vote!

Go get her Joe! I am tired of it also. I am tired of the little innuendos that some states are "pro-American" translate pro-Republican and some are less so. Then when she gets called on it, she backs down. If you don''t mean something, don''t say it. If you mean it, defend it. She is like one of those little snotty girls that says something nasty about someone and then when she gets called on it, waffles all over the place. That is bully behavior and all bullies are cowards.

Sara Palin is a bully. She is just an awful person. I''m still cannot believe all the risks she took as a pregnant woman about to deliver a baby--and I am a nurse--and none of that behavior was sensible or safe. That is an example of how she operates and thinks. Also she exhibited bully behavior as a governor. She reminds me of Bush---all this great confidence but with no real intelligence, understanding or ability---all brash hype. Surely American will have better sense than to let someone like her become VP---and then how can you trust McCain when he was the one who chose her? Go Joe Biden and Obama. Good sensible and intelligent men.

I am so tired of our country being polarized by people like Palin. There are compromises and middle roads which can pull us together ---where we can cooperate to make a better world. Palin is not interested in a better world---she just wants power and money--and she doesn''t care if she destroys our country to get it---kinda reminds me of Bush and the current Republicans in power. If she gets elected there will be more war and more corruption and there is a chance that American could cease to be. Democracy could cease to be. The levels of corruption are so high now. Obama and Biden can lead us to peace and prosperity.

Palin is spot on the fact that some people is more patriotic than others in America. To about 50% of the population, John McCain is more patriotic than Obama because McCain fought for the country and Obama did not, whereas Palin is more patriotic than Biden. People in the country is more patriotic and love America more than those living in the cities, who are fed by the people in the country, clothed by the workers, and defended by the sons and daughters of pro-American areas so that those "intelligent" people in the cities or colleges can express freedom of speech and liberty to condemn and protest against their country. People are really tired of those who constantly blame Americans for the evils around the world.

By judging those people with whom Obama is closely associated throughout his adult life, and someone said that she is never proud of her country in her adult life, you can draw a conclusion on whether he is patriotic or not.

From a story on Obamas event today:

Bencal, who sings the anthem for a number of school events and is actively involved in local community theatre, had been contacted by the Obama campaign to sing the anthem. He agreed to do so, then was told later in the evening the anthem had been scratched from the program. Bencal said he was told by the campaign the decision was a simple programming change to make room for another speaker.

"Like Wallace''s(George) base, Palin''s "true Americans" owe their authenticity to their rebellion against American institutions. Wallace''s campaign slogan evolved seamlessly from the separatist "Stand Up for Alabama" to the more subtly defiant "Stand up for America," promising a culturally displaced nation-in-exile its rightful place in the White House. Likewise, Palin lowers her voice in intimate solidarity with Americans who are "always proud" of their country%u2014even though her husband once belonged to a political party advocating secession"

It has become clear over the last 8 years that Republicans may be good, hard working, law abiding people, but they sure pick some horrible, awful, nasty, unethical people to represent them. The Republican leadership doesn''t give a rat''s butt about the middle class - they care about the fat cats- the richest 1% of Americans that got the Bush tax cuts that were supposed to lead to job creation and prosperty for everyone. What happened Republicans? How come your big tax cuts for the wealthy didn''t encourage the investment in business and jobs that you all said it would? Give me one good reason that Republicans should get even one more day to govern after Bush''s term is done? Bush is lucky he hasn''t been impeached for incompetance, abuse of power and corruption and Republicans expect 4 more years? What a joke - almost as funny as presenting Palin as qualified. Biden is right she is the most divisive politician we have seen since George Wallace. Palin is vicious and ruthless - very unatractive qualities in someone who wants to be the first female VP - guess lipstick on a pit bull turn out not to be all that attractive.

Many of you so-called "patriots" disgust me. I am a ten-year, two campaign combat veteran. I own a home, a small business, and pay even in taxes to support a healthy salary PLUS some.

The measure of one''s patriotism isn''t decided by the thinking of their associates, but what those individuals are willing to SACRIFICE for the BETTERMENT of their COUNTRY. As awful as it may seem, thousands of servicemen enlist/are commissioned only to receive the backside benefits for THEMSELVES. That is a FACT. They are no more patriotic than your local fireman. Both COULD be in harm''s way for the sake of the public, but neither do so to advance the agenda of the NATION.

Americans need to demand a HIGHER STANDARD of government representatives across the board. NONE of our standing administration has earned the trust given them.

So long as so-called Americans continue to make a distinction between parties and progress, we will move FARTHER from the dream of the founding fathers.

Grow up, "Americans". Do your homework, learn your history and demand a return to a higher standard of governance on all fronts. We The People are no longer represented by EITHER leading party.

I agree Joe! We need, for the health and well being of this nation, to END this politics of division. There once was a time when we voted FOR someone because that person excited us or made us believe. When the Neocon''s came along, suddenly we were back in the days of Joe McCarthy and voting out of FEAR. Didn''t work then and it sure as helll hasn''t worked for us.

McCain has almost destroyed the Republican party, and with a couple more weeks, he may accomplish that.

Why did he pick Palin?, no one could be more dangerous, unqualified, or capable of inciting a riot. She scares the hell out of me.

Who would believe that the agitated and hysterical Congesswoman Michelle Bachmann would call for an investigation of "unAmerican activities" in The United States Congress?

This is like a time warp from the 1950''s when Senator Joe McCarthy created mass hatred, division, and riots in his "red scare."

I didn''t serve in the military in wartime to see this type of gestapo tactics put to use in American politics. This woman, along, with Sarah Palin, are either ignorant beyond reason or just plain evil. I would like to think they are just ignorant and very stupid.

Whatever they are, they are inciting violence, fear, and hate among good Americans of every political persuasion.

Not this time.
