McCain Booed For Telling Audience To Be Respectful of Obama

(CBS)

From CBS News’ John Bentley:

(LAKEVILLE, MINN.) – In stark contrast to his last town hall meeting yesterday, John McCain dramatically toned down his attacks on Barack Obama, even after many in the audience were asking him to go on the offensive. McCain was even booed when he told the audience to be respectful and that “you don’t have to be scared” of Obama:

“The people here in Minnesota want to see a real fight this next time in your debate,” one veteran in the crowd said.

“We want a fight, and I will fight, but we will be respectful. I admire Sen. Obama and his accomplishments, I will respect him, and I want everyone to be respectful,” McCain said, to which he received a chorus of boos. “Because that’s the way politics should be conducted in America, so let’s make sure that we’re all respectful.” He then received a round of applause from the audience.

Some of the questioners said they were scared of an Obama presidency, and one woman said she couldn’t trust Obama because “he’s an Arab.”

McCain shook his head. “No ma’am, he’s a decent family man, a citizen, that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues, and that’s what this campaign is all about.”

But McCain didn’t completely stay away from personal attacks, bringing up Obama’s connection with William Ayres, who was a member of the 1960s radical group the Weather Underground.

“One of the issues is a man named William Ayres, who is an unrepentant terrorist,” McCain said. “Sen. Obama said that Mr. Ayres was a guy in the neighborhood, when in reality, Sen. Obama’s political career was launched in Mr. Ayres living room.”

John McCain was the one to inject "disrespect" in this campaign. He came 894 out of 899 not for no reason - he has 0 intelligence to even comprehend the word "respect", let alone anything else. It''s no wonder that "Anger dwells only in the bosom of the fools."

Now McCain''s supporters are, inadvertently, proving that he is unfit and incapable of providing leadership to the country by proving that he can not even lead them. He is so pathetic that it almost makes me feel sorry for him.

MODERATE REPUBLICANS....

liking the fascist bent of your party nowadays? if not, please consider voting for Obama. He will not make you attend hate rallies or scream "kill" or "terrorist" to punctuate a speech.

GOP is becoming known as the violent klan Party of the US. How humiliating for the intelligent REpublicans who have worked to make the country better....

your party is being overrun with a mean violent mob mentality.

Democrats will not threaten to hurt you or kill you, and will not try to terrorize you into submission for your vote.

Beware, Republicans, your party is annexed by the racist bigot extremists....and mccain and palin are letting them.

America is rejecting all of this....Obama''''s polls are increasing specifically because he offers peace and prosperity, hope and respect. mccain offers hate and bigotry. The polls tell us that people don''t want to be like the haters. They want something BETTER for thier families. mccain has really gone off the deep end.

I am bemused by "Christians" who say they are fearful of Senator Obama. Why? The man''s life is an open book. What is it that scares you about him? I''ll tell you what scares me; it''s the "Christians" at the McCain/Palin rallies who are just about ready to erupt into physical violence. McCain and Palin will be responsible if this happens.

Finally, the McCain I had respected for so long over the years. I hope he doesn''t entirely get sucked into the Republican hate group-think. He may very well keep his integrity, regardless of power politics.

please, easeltine, check out http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/ownwords.asp to see how Obama''s words have been twisted by some really crazy haters and then passed on by folks like you. Just do some research before you put stuff out there that just isn''t true. Such junk weakens your already flimsy case.

Some of the comments from "easeltine" based on a false email confuse people. Turn to page 261 in "The Audacity of Hope" and you will find the truth. He makes reference to the treatment of Japanese internments of WW2 and declares for all immigrants that "he will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction." I suggest the public read the text of both books before you buy into the profane lies. Ignorance is not bliss it is a disaster.

Well, Mccain/Palin have been lying. This is what happens when you lie and they should be sued for slander and inciting a riot. I only hope one of these people does not do something really stupid!!? I cannot believe two grown adults would behave this way? Do we really want them as P/VP??? Obama is much more stable they they.

What I would like to know is why the media doesn''t give more information on Obama''s relationship with Bill Ayres? If you Google Obama and Bill Ayres you can get tons of information from the University of Illinois library. It is in the archives. Right there in black and white!! What has America come to? Voting for a person that serves on boards with a terrorist? That is what Bill Ayres is, a terrorist. He attempted to bomb the pentagon. Obama said he was just a person in his neighborhood but if you look at the archives in the Library at the University of Illinois. Obama in fact served on the board with Ayres. Did he forget that? He also helped form ACORN company. I guess that slipped his mind too!!

I have no problem with black people. They are just like any other person and should be treated as such. Obama is not a patriot. He has been against this country until just recently and only now is he "for America". Hoping it will win him the presidency. God help our country if he does!!!

If Ayers is a terrorist, why isn''t he in jail? If the Republicans know he''s a terrorist, can''t they send him to GITMO? Oh that''s right, they know how to catch Bin Laden but haven''t done that either.

This smear tactic is absurd. I KNOW all the people spreading this KNOW its absurd but they spew this garbage trying to confuse the weak voters who vote out of fear and confusion.

Bill Ayer''s funding is 1 person removed from people who DONATE TO MCCAIN. And all of this is irrelevant.

This election SHOULD be about who''s most qualified. Energy policy, housing, the economy, etc. Vote Smart, Vote Obama.

Seriously, Palin is a total idiot and she could easily become President. Two retards in a row in the Whitehouse would really screw things up.

Digging through every nook and cranny it is hard to find information on the Obama-Ayers relationship because they did not socialize beyond meet and greet type events. Plus the fact that Ayers was never prosecuted for his alleged involvement to that radical group in the 60''s. If this was a republican coffer, conservative talk would be crying that someone like Ayers has that innocent until proven guilty right. But rather than talk about a lost soul from the 60''s, I see poll results in Arizona (Where 3 out of 10 of John McCain%u2019s houses are located) with Obama at 49% and McCain 42%. McCain is actually behind in his own home state? How did that happen? Now Arizona is possibly a toss up state. Who would have thought it?

John McCain (42.6%)
Barack Obama (49.7%)
Unsure (7.7%)

Funny how everyone forgets that John McCain sided with Christian extremists and other fascist groups....I guess its ok if your white. Funny how none of McCains supporters see anything wrong with the facr that Palins husband participated for so many years in an organization that also D.amned the U.S. so bad that they wanted to seperate from the entire nation.
Is that not anti- patriotic?????
Noone sees the hypocrisy of a woman that preaches family values and yet has an unmarried pregnant daughter who apparently drinks and parties. You all are such HYPOCRITS its DISGUSTING. If Obama were a terrorist wouldnt he be in jail???If he were even suspected...wouldnt he be in jail???? The compant that McCain keeps arent exactly the U.S. boyscouts and are far from angels. Stop lying and face the fact that you not only dont agree with Obamas policies but your HATEFUL ATTACKS PROVE that the majority of McCain supporters are die hard racists that would rather see their arms ripped from their bodies than to see a Black man as president. I say...let it RIP.

Sorry about the repeated posts.
Are Christian extremists more acceptable than Muslim ones??? Palin is a Christian EXTREMISTS and sounds just as psycho as the Muslim extremists. Look at her education...LOL then compare it to Obama''s. Hers is PATHETIC. Look at her experience in dealing with large diverse populations...its a JOKE compared to Obama. McCain changes his mind about his policies every other week and his running mate contradicts his statements REGULARLY. PLUS she has shown that she can and WILL abuse the power of her position and has used her office to do favors for her friends. My God the list goes on and on and on. McCain and Palin SUCK IN EVERY WAY.

CORRECTED TEXT:

I have read that people at McCain/Palin rallies have shouted "he is a terrorist", "he is an Arab", "kill him", if that is so:

As far as I am concerned anyone yelling "kill him" at any presidential candidiate''s rally should be promptly arrested by the SECRET SERVICE. But where has the SECRET SERVICE been?

If the SECRET SERVICE has not arrested such provocateurs and terrorists they are in subversion of their duty, and the constitution and the president of the United States and should be immediately releived of duty, court martially and be found guilty and spend a long time in prison.

This ACORN mess is overblown. ACORN reported the fraud themselves. They want the perpetrators caught. The Republicans act as if it were intentional. ACORN is a great organization and they do a lot to provide job training for criminals upon their release from prison, they provide housing counseling for first time homebuyers, and they have a ton of urban education programs. Their voter drive isn''t the only one in the country wrought with fraud this year. Obama supports lots of community organization that have "Get out the Vote" drives. I''m sooooo tired of Republicans. They make me sick.

Some say seeing is believing - add hearing to that and a lot of people become true believers in the idea that there are a great many naive, ignorant, uninformed, ill-informed, hateful, bigoted, "dumb" and very small people opening their mouths when they should keep them closed.

There''s absolutely no place for chants about killing anybody PERIOD. Shame on McCain for not putting a stop to it i.e. standing up and saying This Will Not Be Tolerated PERIOD.

I''d say it''s pretty much a done deal for Obama and has been way before all of this BS.
