In CBS Interview, Palin Calls For Surge In Afghanistan

On Wednesday morning, CBS News anchor Katie Couric interviewed Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin in New York. The first part of the interview on economic policy aired on the CBS Evening News last night. You can read and watch that part of the interview here.

Tonight, the second part of the exclusive interview, this time on foreign policy, will air on the CBS Evening News. But before that, here's a preview of Palin talking about Afghanistan. This clip also aired on The Early Show this morning.

Katie Couric: Why is it much more challenging there? Can you explain that?

Sarah Palin: The logistics that we are already suggesting here, not having enough troops in the area right now. The… things like the terrain even in Afghanistan and that border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where, you know, we believe that-- Bin Laden is-- is hiding out right now and… and is still such a leader of this terrorist movement. There… there are many more challenges there. So, again, I believe that… a surge in Afghanistan also will lead us to victory there as it has proven to have done in Iraq. And as I say, Katie, that we cannot afford to retreat, to withdraw in Iraq. That's not gonna get us any better off in Afghanistan either. And as our leaders are telling us in our military, we do need to ramp it up in Afghanistan, counting on our friends and allies to assist with us there because these terrorists who hate America, they hate what we stand for with the… the freedoms, the democracy, the… the women's rights, the tolerance, they hate what it is that we represent and our allies, too, and our friends, what they represent. If we were… were to allow a stronghold to be captured by these terrorists then the world is in even greater peril than it is today. We cannot afford to lose in Afghanistan.

Well if we were...were to elect Sarah we would be in more dire straits than before. I''m a working guy who went to a state college got a BA degree and I''m not qualified to run the country and neither is Sarah Palen. The problem is anyone can run regarless if you can do the job. She''s not smart enough, not qualified. She''s in way over her head.

There are no benefits for Americans in Afghanistan. Your tax dollars and cumulative borrowed debt to finance these operations only benefit the corporations who purchased the oil& gas rights in the Caspian Sea Basin, for the construction of the TAPI project, Caspian Sea Pipelines........nothing more nothing less.

And the extermination continues:...........

February 12, 1998 John J. Maresca vp of UNOCAL oil appeared before a House sub committee. The purpose of the meeting was to gain support for exploitation of oil & natural gas resources, for the rights purchased by BIG OIL in the Caspian Sea area.

In his testimony he stated, "The key question is how the energy resources of Central Asia can be made available to nearby Asian markets ".

The exploitation option stated : "One obvious route south would cross Iran, but this is foreclosed by American companies because of U.S. sanctions (with Iran ) . The only other possible route is across Afghanistan, which of course has it''''s own unique challenges. " He continued saying, " the pipeline we have proposed across Afghanistan could not begin until a recognized government is in place that has the confidence of governments, lenders (world monitary fund & world bank ) ,and our company "......"

UNOCAL and other American companies are prepared to undertake the job ". A consortium of oil & gas companies have taken over where UNOCAL left off.

More than a year and half before 911 the CIA Special Activities Division was conducting operations in Afghanistan, trying to topple the Taliban regime for the TAPI project, Caspian Sea Oil & Gas Pipelines...........We now call such activities terror.

Now, we get it. The Bush advisors to McCain and palin are now proposing that the presidential debate take the place of the vp debate. Wonder why none of the Bush advisors want her to debate? Can you guess?

I just read on clip of the interview! Please we want to elect this candidate, I do not speak perfect english but this lady doesn''t have the ability to put together intelligent responses to a very important question. I feel sorry for her because even if victorious she is going to be dogged her whole career, she should have stuck to the business of running Alaska.

Man, dave letterman was right on. Such commons sense. He is right....if McCain has to do something, why can''t the great Sarah step in and run the show. I think we all know the answer to that.

Watch the youtube video...it is great

How dare she mention Women''s Rights, and freedoms in regards to why other people hate us. Who does she think she is talking to? She is all about diminishing those rights and the freedom of choice, we have as women. She is talking out of both sides of her mouth. Does she not realize that we all know her policy on women''s rights? Give me a freakin'' break, lady. Palin is the worst thing to happen to women''s rights since, well, Bush.
I mean, forget that she is obviously intellectually challenged, or that she promotes a policy of abstinence that she, herself, could not even successfully implement in her own household, and forget the fact that the RNC has been so afraid of giving the press much needed access to her because of what I am sure they know, will go badly for them, so instead they want us to just ''trust'' them when electing her as 2nd in command to a doddering old fool, but by God, she should keep her mouth shut when speaking about women''s rights.
The reason people hate us--is because we have been bombing them for 20 years, we have raped their land, and killed, er, excuse me, ''liberated'' hundreds of thousands of their civilians, fighting for oil.
She knows nothing of tolerance, and freedom. Ask the Librarian at Wasilla.
The RNC is smart to keep her underwraps. But if the American people accept this, then welcome to the Thunderdome. She is the only way that things could actually get worse.

A couple days ago, I said the Republican''s will not let her do that debate. I don''t know how they are going to get out of it, but they will. There is not enough damage control to overcome the catastrophe she will cause if she appears in the VP debate, and now McCain has suggested that the Presidential debate be moved to Thursday, instead of having the VP debate. Man you picked her, you got yourself in this position, now you have to live with it! Everyone should rewatch the interview with Katie. Look closely at Katie''s face. I don''t even need to say anything else, Katie''s face says it all!!!

This explains her response:

Palin attended Wasilla High School in Wasilla.[9] She was the head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at the school and the point guard and captain of the school''s girls'' basketball team. She helped the team win the Alaska small-school basketball championship in 1982, hitting a critical free throw in the last seconds of the game, despite having an ankle stress fracture. She earned the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" because of her intense play; she was the leader of the team prayer before games.[10]

In 1982, Palin enrolled at Hawaii Pacific College but left after her first semester. From there she transferred to North Idaho College, where she spent two semesters as a general studies major. From the community college she then transferred to the much larger University of Idaho for two semesters.[11][12] During this time Palin won the Miss Wasilla Pageant beauty contest,[13][14] then finished third (second runner-up) in the Miss Alaska pageant,[15][16] at which she won the "Miss Congeniality" award.[17] She then left the University of Idaho and attended Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska for one term. The next year she returned to the University of Idaho where she spent three semesters completing her Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism, graduating in 1987.[11][12]

In 1988, she worked as a sports reporter for KTUU-TV in Anchorage, Alaska,[18] She also helped in her husband%u2019s commercial fishing family business.[20]

From reading the transcript I find again it is blatantly obvious this woman has no clue what she is talking about and I have to say to her supporters don''t be made at her retractors for pointing this out or blame Katie Couric for asking questions of you candidate. Who I think you should be mad at is Sarah Palin and John McCain for putting you in this situation in the first place. Sarah Palin should have never accepted the nomination and John McCain should have never offered. End of discussion!

Many screaming Mimmies said:

Did any of you see the scene in "Fried Green Tomatoes" where Kathie Bates (Evelyn) is sitting in a therapy group which is looking at their vaginas in a mirror? After reading these repetitive posts filled with hype and "mythology" of the ***, I felt I was watching that very funny and uncomfortable scene again. I think what Palin is talking about are women in Muslim nations that are executed or murdered for not following Sharia law. Women who can not drive, vote, marry whom they choose, don''t know if they and their children will survive ethnic wars, or be eliminated in the name of family honor as my best friend'' sister was in 1997. She married a Syrian who decided to kill their 15 year old daughter, seen with 5 boys walking behind her and her friend on their way home. She was mingling and she was being harassed because she was cute! Becky intervened in defense of her choice, the life of her daughter, and her husband killed her. To all of you therapy deprived psychotic liberals, there is more to life than your mirror! You criticize Palin%u2019s appearance degrading her as a %u201Chick%u201D. Well that is because she isn%u2019t constantly looking in her mirror!

Here is the math.

At http://www.boppoll.com, 1 person can bop at a rate of about 60 bops per minute. 1000 people can do 60,000 bops per minute. 100,000 can add 6,000,000 bops per minute.

Palin set herself up for the late night comedians, with I''ll get back to you.

I''ve watched Parts I & II from last night and the Afghanistan preview from tonight''s show. Katie, please tell the American public what Sarah Palin had in her lap during the interview. Were they bullet points, an outline or just phrases that she had been coached to say?

The use of assistive devices is germaine to the story here. In light of the story that was debunked about the teleprompter malfunctioning at the Republican Convention, it is important to know what she was cribbing from.

My guess is they were talking points. Based on her performance, Palin would start with a talking point, try to vamp (unsuccessfully), then try to bridge back to the talking point. It''s media training 101. And her client should get their money back, because the results are embarrasing for someone running for the VP job.

She is such a dimwit. Obama spoke about more troops in Afganistan over a year ago. And using that name "Bin Laden" is such nonsense. Bin Laden is retired and his son has managed to create over 80 terror cells throughout the world.Does every one truley belive that the war on terror is localized? Bin Laden is over, and even if we do catch him and hang him by his balls, he has been replaced by a thousand militant leaders more angry and stronger than him. Just remember all the children in Iraq and Afganistan that were 10 years old when the wars began are the new generation of militants with a very passionate mission against the western world. The economy of the USSR was devastated by the war in Afganistan and their mission was never accomplished. You can''t just kill a million muslims, there are to many of them and they are fearless of death. Obama/Biden "08". Perhaps we can achieve a resonable compromise through other methods. Remember Jesus never raised a sword.
Palin/McCain are war mongers and their thinking is a left over from the 21st century. Please lets move on to the new century and let our lawmakers know that they are on the wrong path.

Now we know why McCain''s campaign had sequestered Sarah Palin since the Republican convention, the woman is an imbecile. This interview was very painful to watch, I was embarrassed for her; what is astonishing is Palin''s inability to string together a single sentence that is intelligible. This says a lot about John McCain, the man is either cynical or total moron.

Bimbet does''nt even know that the surge in Iraq was not the only factor that helped quelch the violence. Are we going to hand money over to the Taliban to stop shooting, it worked in Iraq but I don''t think the Taliban will buy into that. Meanwhile we are in an economic disater, and bleeding money into an illegal war. Does she know that we have no option as to retreat or not retreat? Malaki is throwing us out he wants a firm deadline, if that don''t happen the violence will be worse than anything we have experienced there. "We cannot retreat in Iraq" until all the Oil contracts are in order. Meanwhile France and Russia are enjoying the discount prices of Iraqian oil. Why not come out and say that BIMBET. What are we winning in Iraq? Please tell me that BIMBET, or will you find out and come back and tell Katie?
