McCain Campaign Trashes The New York Times

(CBS)
From CBS News' John Bentley:

(PHILADELPHIA) – John McCain’s campaign manager Steve Schmidt lashed out at the media today, specifically the New York Times, on a conference call with – the media.

“Let's be clear and be honest with each other about something fundamental to this race, which is this is that whatever the New York Times once was, it is today not by any standard a journalistic organization. It is a pro-Obama advocacy organization that everyday attacks the McCain campaign, attacks Senator McCain, attacks Governor Palin, and excuses Senator Obama,” Schmidt said.

“This is an organization that is completely, totally, 150 percent in the tank for the Democratic candidate, which is their prerogative to be, but let's not be dishonest and call it something other than what it is. Everything that is read in the New York Times that attacks this campaign should be evaluated by the American people from that perspective, that it is an organization that has made a decision to cast aside its journalistic integrity and tradition to advocate for the defeat of one candidate in this case John McCain and advocate for the election of the other candidate, Barack Obama."

Once a candidate that called the national media “his base,” McCain and his campaign have not held a press conference with the press corps that follows him for over a month, and Palin has yet to hold a press conference with the national media.

Schmidt’s anger has apparently bubbled over to McCain supporters as well. At a town hall in Scranton today, instead of asking the candidate a question, a woman issued a diatribe against the media.

“I also want to take the opportunity to ask the media, where is your 30 investigators over in Chicago looking at Ayers? We want the media to start doing their job and stop picking on little children because of their age and their pregnancies. Shame on you! Shame on all of you’s!”

“That is a great question,” McCain responded.

for all those who are so quick to condemn mccain on being closely tied to fannie mae and freddie mac: keep in mind that obama is #2 on the list of senators receiving contributions from fannie and freddie. put your bias aside and stick to the facts. both candidates have ties to these organizations. obama is not exempt.

The McCain campaign outright lies and makes stuff up on a daily basis, and yet they want no one to call them out on it. ***.

They really need to start pointing out what the falsehood or lies actually are in what''s being reported instead of just ranting like Pigs ( especially with lipstick on). Cheers! ...... I''ll bet, they''ll shut up when called out on it - There''s a very good reason they''re against the media right now.

what else do you want done, that''s not already been done ? What you''ve just wasted time posting has already been known for months and most Americans like me have already decided that they''re not important enough to make me vote against my interests. But you listen to Repugs and you''re surprised what they want done to Obama but won''t accept for Palin, who may have actually lied about being the mother of Trig - Most people i''ve seen believe someone that''ll do something as heinous as that, deserves no Public Office besides people have been convicted for less in this country and maybe NEVER in Alaska. If she''s not experienced enough, she''ll never be after she gets elected. A state of 650,000 less that the district that Obama represented will in his state senate & now rep. over 13million in the US Senate. Cheers!

A Plea to the Media:
Vet Obama!

Below is a limited list of areas where the media has failed to investigate Obama.

This list does not include Obama%u2019s many policy reversals or outright fabrications, like the statement that the Kennedy family facilitated his father coming to the United States.

It does not include Obama%u2019s habit of voting %u2018present%u2019 as a member of the Illinois State Senate nor his strange maneuverings regarding a born alive bill.

Instead, the list below concerns Obama%u2019s associates and business dealings.

(part 2)

It is a sordid group, comprised of the America-hating, anti-Israel, and explicitly racial Left. There is big money involved, as with the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and bizarre organizations to which money was funneled.

Obama%u2019s milieu is the intersection of Chicago politics and the fringe Left; there is much to be explored and explained about Obama. Below is a partial list where Obama remains unvetted:

1. Trinity United Church of Christ. Obama%u2019s 20-year membership in an explicitly racist church, a church with rhetoric too hot for Oprah.

2. Rezko. Obama%u2019s ties to Tony Rezko and the 2005 purchase of the Obamas%u2019 home. Obama funnelling money to Rezko%u2019s sleazy businesses.
3. Ayers. Obama%u2019s extensive ties to unrepentant terroist Bill Ayers.

4. Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC). Obama and Ayers together dispensing tens of millions of dollars supposedly for educational organizations.

Although now just being investigated, it%u2019s known that money was funnelled to Ayers%u2019 friend, radical Mike Klonsky, a founding member of the Maoist Party of the United States.

5. Minister Louis Farrakhan. Obama is surrounded by people like Rev. Willie Barrow, a friend and admirer of the anti-white, anti-Semitic Farrakhan.

If the media doesn%u2019t do their job, we may end up with this guy as President.

Political operatives'' use of Karl Rove-ian Best Methods: Repeatedly and regularly, point a finger of illegitimacy at any information outlet that might cause the targeted supporters to think too critically or too much.

In effect, the best thing that can happen for the supported candidate in an endeavor reliant on Karl Rove-ian techniques is that early in the process, based on party affiliation or non-issue based biases or preferences, each supporter strongly or weakly decides to vote for the target candidate and thereafter is never subjected to any new election information; 2nd preference - said supporter will automatically reject new election information critical of supported candidate based on a programmed perception that the source is illegitimate.

Of course, such %u201CBest Methods%u201D are dependent on what appears to be a Karl Rove-ian view that implicitly and emphatically asserts the general and natural gullibility or prejudice of the American electorate. In the words of Kurt Vonnegut, %u201CAnd so it goes.%u201D

When McCain loses, he can use Nixon''s old line to the press. "Well, you won;t have Nixon to kick around anymore''.

McCain just does NOT want the truth told. Here is ANOTHER FACT that McCain would love to HAVE CENSORED.

McCain CAMPAIGN MANAGER RICK DAVIS took MILLIONS from Failed Financial Companies to FIGHT REGULATION OF THE FINANCE INDUSTRY.

Senator John McCain%u2019s campaign manager, Rick Davis, was paid more than $30,000 a MONTH for five years (almost $2 MILLION) as president of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations, current and former officials say.

McCain has recently begun campaigning as a critic of the two companies and the lobbying army that helped them evade greater regulation Incensed by the advertisements, several current and former executives of the companies came forward to discuss the role that Rick Davis, Mr. McCain%u2019s campaign manager and longtime adviser, played in helping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac beat back regulatory challenges when he served as president of their advocacy group, the Homeownership Alliance, formed in the summer of 2000. Some who came forward were Democrats, but Republicans, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed their descriptions.

Let''s also be clear and honest about something fundamental in this race,John McCain has /will go down as the most untruthful politician (and this is really bad)in U.S. political history. And the sad thing is that the same Republican hierarchy that castrated him years ago are now his sleeping buddies. Incredible,Pitiful and Shameful! He''s sounding like the little kid who because it''s his basketball wants to take 3 shots to his opponents one and call that fair.

FOX News has been taking their talking points from the Republicans for a long time now. The NYT has tried to be fair and report the news honestly. Apparently, McCain had thought that the press was going to
stay away from him as they had
in the past when he was their
"friend". McCain/Palin need to
be examined as closely as the press has already examined Obama/
Biden. In order to have a fair
election, the American people must be given the facts and the media
must be able to be impartial and
report the facts...freedom of the
press!

I agree, CNN is completely biased too. If Obama was the wonder they try to make us believe, they wouldn''t need to make such a big effort.

Thanks God not everybody believes what the media say.

Hmmm... I''ve never heard any concern from the McCain camp about Fox''s indisputable partisan coverage. Gee, could it be because they favor McCain? Fox is so far in the tank for the GOP you couldn''t even assign an over-the-top percentage to it. The NY Times has covered the good and bad of both candidates, Obama and McCain. McCain just hates looking like a loser right now -- he''s having a meltdown on a daily basis it seems.

during the primaries the NYTimes backed McCain on the Republican ticket and Clinton on the Democratic ticket. So...McCain only has a problem with them when they write anything negative about him?

Schmidt says: "This is an organization that is completely, totally, 150 percent in the tank for the Democratic candidate..."

For something to be total or complete, you can only have 100% of it. Let''s call it "McCain Math" -- where 2 equals 3. It explains a lot of his proposals.

Please Mr Schmidt, do tell us what the NY Times reported, that led you to say this today? Certainly, they must have lied about something. What did they report that was untrue???
Does anyone notice, this is just a blanket statement, based on nothing that happened.

Just anything they can do, to divert from the issues. And get the Republicon followers, to start foaming, as they are in the posts here.

How about this, CBS?
Only run words or comments or retorts that come DIRECTLY FROM THE CANDIDATES THEMSELVES.
You all are at fault for running every whiney butt thing anyone says. Palin wont talk to the media? then STOP RUNNING ANY STORIES ABOUT HER----BET SHE''LL CHANGE THAT LITTLE MIND OF HERS PRETTY FAST, EH?

Just more slam and slime tactics from the KARL ROVE / GEORGE BUSH RUN McCain Campaign.

They lie and lie and lie, then complain when their lies are exposed. "It''s the media''s fault that we keep lying about the Bridge to Nowhere". "It''s the media''s fault we lied and lied about Troopergate." "It''s the media''s fault that Palin said we might have to GO TO WAR WITH RUSSIA".

McCain should change their campaign slogan to, "It''s the Media''s fault".

Then they should change their platform to something more suitable to their desires, "Close down all media that is not Far-Right talk radio and the Fox News Network".

Now THAT would be "Straight Talk" for once.
