Palin Sounds Deceptive Alarm On Taxes, Tweaks Energy Claim Following Fact Check

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(VIENNA, OHIO) - Sarah Palin unleashed a torrent of criticism against Barack Obama’s tax plan at an airport hanger rally with John McCain, saying it would “make even today’s bad economy look like the good old days.”

“He wants to raise income taxes and he wants to raise payroll taxes and raise investment income taxes and raise the death tax and raise business taxes,” Palin said. “That's his plan. He actually proposes to raise taxes in this hurting economy.”

But Palin’s warning on income and investment taxes only applies to those who make more than $250,000 a year. Obama’s plan calls for a hike in investment taxes and an elimination of the Bush income tax cuts only for such families.

Obama would give workers making under $150,000 credits of $500 and up to $1,000 per family.

Palin devoted a significant portion of her Ohio speech to the economy and tried to break down the financial crisis on Wall Street to make it seem relevant to everyday Americans.

“Also, two out of every three Americans have a stake in the market and that is through pensions and 401ks and IRAs and the like,” she said. “Families across America have a right to expect that their interests and their investments will be protected. Instead what's going on now—huge investment banks are going under because of their own bad practices and then they are asking the public to bail them out.”

She said that McCain was a “proven reformer” who would clean up Wall Street.

Palin also spoke extensively on energy policy, which she said would be one of the issues on which she would focus as vice president. She touted her record in Alaska but chose her words more carefully than she has in the past.

“As governor my job has been to oversee such a great portion of the oil development, the production levels in our domestic supply in the U.S. I had to take on the big oil company interests.”

Palin had previously said that she oversaw nearly 20 percent of the nation’s energy supply, but that claim was untrue. A fact check showed that Alaska only produced 14 percent of the oil from U.S. wells, and the state’s total energy production was actually just 3.5 percent of the entire nation’s output.

The constant outright lies coming from both McCain and Palin are really alarming. Apparently their parents or ministers never taught them the 9th commandment (Thou shall not bear false witness). The two people on the republican ticket have no honor - they''d sell their mothers for a chance at the Whitehouse.

Doesn''t Bush Baby get tired of lying?

Doesn''t God punish liars, even if they speak in tongues?

Isn''t the McCain / Palin campaign as pathetically desperate as can be?

Really? John McCai has been part of the problem for years. He has voted against any regulation of these mega-giants, and incedentally, check the political afilliation of these CEO''s, boards of directors, etc., of any of these greedy mega-corporations that are now begging the American tax-payers for hand-outs(bail outs.) I betcha you will find very few Democrats. They boys have been funding McCain and Co. because they know who will allow them to screw the American people.

Wow... what a difference. Palin claims Alaska was 20% of the energy picture, but the reality is 3.5%.

This sounds like her... Brash boastful BS first, reality check and backpedal, later.

Palin: 3.5% good stuff, 96.5% fluff.

Top McCain-Palin official Carly Fiorina is facing criticism from some within the campaign for a day of what they call "very Biden-like" comments, after the former Hewlett-Packard CEO told two separate interviewers that neither member of the Republican ticket would be capable of running a company.

Asked by a St. Louis radio station whether she thought Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin could run a company like Hewlett-Packard, Fiorina responded: "No, I don''t.

Asked about that remark on MSNBC, she made the same unprompted assessment of the GOP presidential nominee. "I don''t think John McCain could run a major corporation."

With the economy center stage in the campaign, Fiorina''s words gave Democrats easy fodder to attack the Republican ticket.

It''s reached a point where McCain and Palin are walking and spitting on the flag. She''s just demonstrating unadulterated ambition to climb the ladder without having any qualifications. McCain though is displaying a side he apparently kept under control up until now-called threacherous behavior.

Yes - or someone who can''t be bothered to get educated on the important issues.

Palin will be a disaster who will make George Bush look intelligent and informed. I worry about her nutty religious views interfering in public policy. I worry about her lack of experience in actually visiting other parts of the world. Anyone who spends their entire life in Alaska, huntin'' and fishin'' is not someone who can be trusted on international diplomacy or making strategic decisions on behalf of the world''s only superpower.

SPARE US Karl Rove and Co. written daily Palin talking points! Enough is enough. Let her talk to us through unscrited media interview. Then we can decide whether she knows really what she is talking about.

What is really scary is that so many of the Obamabots here may actually be allowed to vote. No wonder McCain thinks education is the most important issue of the 21st Century. He must be reading your messages!!

Conservatives and republicans are such a sorry bunch. McCain and Palin...there just not much there to be excited about. Palin has a very thin record. And despite all the ways to look at Palin''s experience, the republicans desperately want to see some substance in Palin to justify her selection as vice-president. There is plenty of hype around Palin, but as I reflect on this choice of Palin, I just don''t see much substance. I was a republican for two decades. And it''s clear to me that the republicans value hype and flash, over substance and reason...like GW Bush. John McCain had a long career in Congress with little to show with respect to reform or change. McCain is no reformer or maverick these days...McCain is just another republican hack who is ready to give America and American taxpayer money to the lobbyists and corporate special interests. At least the republicans are consistent....consistently poor and reckless in judgement when the well-being of all Americans is threatened. McCain and Palin...they will do everything for those who are doing well for themselves and *** on the American worker who is struggling with basic needs. Shame on the party of greed and deception.. republicans...you will eventually reap what you sow!!!

The more we hear Palin, the bigger the guffaws every time she makes another scripted fabricated claim about her credentials. But maybe any of us would become egotistical after meeting those crowds of hired cheerers . I''m afraid that this could be so dizzying for her that her claims will be even more grandiose if she is ever allowed to talk on her own.

Obama is talking a lot on education - it is important. Lets be more educated and get what was printed in Obama''s web page o Economy / Tax... just an excerp... The way I see it... a lot of substance than what half bake Palin is trying to say ....

Obama%u2019s Comprehensive Tax Policy Plan for America will:
Cut taxes for 95 percent of workers and their families with a tax cut of $500 for workers or $1,000 for working couples.
Provide generous tax cuts for low- and middle-income seniors, homeowners, the uninsured, and families sending a child to college or looking to save and accumulate wealth.
Eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses, cut corporate taxes for firms that invest and create jobs in the United States, and provide tax credits to reduce the cost of healthcare and to reward investments in innovation.
Dramatically simplify taxes by consolidating existing tax credits, eliminating the need for millions of senior citizens to file tax forms, and enabling as many as 40 million middle-class Americans to do their own taxes in less than five minutes without an accountant.

to be continued...

continued..... Read more on Obama''s Tax regime...
Under the Obama Plan:
Middle class families will see their taxes cut %u2013 and no family making less than $250,000 will see their taxes increase. The typical middle class family will receive well over $1,000 in tax relief under the Obama plan, and will pay tax rates that are 20% lower than they faced under President Reagan. According to the Tax Policy Center, the Obama plan provides three times as much tax relief for middle class families as the McCain plan.
Families making more than $250,000 will pay either the same or lower tax rates than they paid in the 1990s. Obama will ask the wealthiest 2% of families to give back a portion of the tax cuts they have received over the past eight years to ensure we are restoring fairness and returning to fiscal responsibility. But no family will pay higher tax rates than they would have paid in the 1990s. In fact, dividend rates would be 39 percent lower than what President Bush proposed in his 2001 tax cut.
Obama%u2019s plan will cut taxes overall, reducing revenues to below the levels that prevailed under Ronald Reagan (less than 18.2 percent of GDP). The Obama tax plan is a net tax cut %u2013 his tax relief for middle class families is larger than the revenue raised by his tax changes for families over $250,000. Coupled with his commitment to cut unnecessary spending, Obama will pay for this tax relief while bringing down the budget deficit.

This is very professional.

Did she change her comments on how she is against earmarks--when it has been proven that she is the earmark queen. And what about the bridge---did she mentioned that again? This woman has a problem with facts and how she presents them.

FactCheck.org has had to double their staff since McCain and Palin started campaigning. It is hard task keeping track of all their lies. Fortunately there are a couple of good websites that have been able to do it and the documented and verified list grows every single day.

They are taking the voters for a bunch of fools and suckers.
