The Real Sarah Palin Laughs Along With Tina Fey’s Impression

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

The true extent to which Palin-mania has come to dominate the TV news cycle hit home for me last night as I flipped through the channels on the Palin campaign’s charter flight from Reno to Denver. Within a period of about a half hour, I caught the much-anticipated debut of Tina Fey as Sarah Palin on “Saturday Night,” as well as seperate Palin documentaries on MSNBC and CNN.

Tina Fey was such a dead ringer for Palin that I was tempted to open the curtains that separate the governor and her staff from the media to make sure she was still on the plane and hadn’t managed to sneak off to Manhattan to appear live on the show.

One of the more biting pieces of satire came at the beginning of the sketch when Amy Poehler’s rendition of Hillary Clinton standing beside Palin said, "I believe that diplomacy should be the cornerstone of any foreign policy.”

"And I can see Russia from my house,” Fey as Palin replied.

According to her spokesperson Tracey Schmitt, the real Sarah Palin had a good laugh along with the press corps in the back of the plane and millions of Americans at home.

“She thought it was quite funny, particularly because she once dressed up as Tina Fey for Halloween,” Schmitt said.

Frankly, it really is not funny. America is in dire straits. Palin is not the one to lead her out. She has no international experience or concept. Canada and Mexico vacations don''t count. And that leaves Kuwait. For what - a day? Duh...

It was hilarious. The far left can focus on all her weaknesses while ignoring the same in their candidate. But the critical voting block see the true strength and potential in Sarah. She IS our future.

It was FUNNY- its great that we can all still laugh even through all of the serious situations that are going on. I agree with freedog 007, i love how the obama camp is trying to pick at her lack of experience. i suppose that if they are picking at her the public would not notice the lack of experience from the other guy.

Oh. My. God.

How long will it take for the drugs somebody slipped me to wear off? This can''t really be happening.

I was thinking it wouldn''t be so bad even if McCain won before but adding this obviously unprepared V.P. nomination to the ticket has changed all that. It in now VITAL that Obama Biden win.

Look at the actuarial tables and there is at least a 1 out of 3 chance Palin might actually become president. America is in dire straits now from 8 years of Bush and that would just flush any chance we have at getting back on the right track right down the toilet.

Republicans and Independents should not worry. You may soon be looking at Palin/Pelosi bumper stickers.

That''s right, if something were to happen to McCain who do you think would be our # 1 and 2?

I thought SNL was soooo funny. I do happen to like Sarah Palin. I think she is just as qualified as Obama. I doubt McCain is going to die within 4 years his mother is 92 that says something.
Secondly what about Biden he has a chance he may be a heart beat away. Why isn''t anyone asking him is he ready.
Everyone has their own opinions on who will be best for this country. Whatever the outcome if it''s bad we only have four years of it. I will be the first and maybe only on this blog to say GO Palin GO!!!! McCain Too. Gee I wonder how he feels knowing everyone thinks he''s going to die any day now.

To Paul,
Palin is not leading America out McCain would be he is running. You can''t just assume McCain is about to die geezzz. That''s what everyone is forgetting it''s McCain for President not PALIN. In that case you need to assume Biden is leading America out as well. Anything can happen to a president God forbid but it''s the truth.

1. I''m a Republican, voting for Obama.
2. Palin is definitely not qualified to be President.
3. The SNL Opener was not only hilarious, and dead on-target in it''s satire, I think it elevated Governor Palin to permanent super-star status.

As good as Tina Fey was in her impression, that''s really how good Sarah Palin is on "the stump". I am seriously starting to re-think my own notions about what qualifies a person to lead this country. We survived eight years of George W. Bush, and given a choice going forward, I''ll take Sarah Palin over what we''ve just been through any day. The way I see it, we can''t lose!

drobe3, read the Constitution - the President has the power to name a Vice-president in the event of a vacancy. That''s how Ford became President - Agnew resigned - Nixon filled the position with Ford, then Nixon resigned. The speaker becomes president only if something happens to both the president and vice-president.

Not dire straits....maybe Bering Straits. At least Sarah Palin knows how close Russia is to Alaska despite the poking fun at her response with Gibson.

Does Bering Strait and Diomede Islands sound familiar to anyone?

From the Telegraph UK:

On board Mrs Palin''s campaign plane, journalists were told by stewards that she was watching in the VIP section of the charter''s satellite TV system. As reporters howled with laughter during the five-minute skit, there was reportedly silence from the front of the plane.

The real laugh is on us. Now we learn that there is a second Bridge to Nowhere that is very much alive and could cost $1 billion. That''s right, billion. Not to worry though, Sarah Palin says it ''will cut her commute time''. Stop by and learn more.

I''m glad that Sarah Palin was able to laugh at herself, I enjoyed the skit, but it hit home in it''s accuracy. As much as I find Palin charming, intelligent and an excellent public speaker, at the end of the day, my greatest concern is whether her current experiences and resume are sufficient to enable her to take a role in an executive position of VP or potentially President of the United States. As with any job, no matter how well you present in an interview, it''s your experience and accomplishments that determine your ability to do the job.

I find it silly all the radical leftists folks calling and writing that they are stanch religious Republicans yet are voting for Obama because of experience.

Err...all you liars making these claims, you''re not Republican and you''re not religious and Obama has less experience than my front desk receptionist.

I also think that Palin is running as the VP candidate not the Presidential wannabe as is Obama

Believing in the murder of the unborn and supporting Obama disqualifies you from the Republican party and most Protestant religions.

Come on you phonies who do you think you''re fooling.

For those who said that Palin''s experience is not enough to be a president, then how could they vote for Obama who has even less of a resume than hers. Even as recent as just a few months ago, Obama was so confused about Israel and Jerusalem needing to be undivided...

Also, it is also another sign of how weak Obama''s resume is when the debate is centering around Obama vs. Palin when she is only a mere VP candidate when he is supposedly a P. A vote for Obama is another vote for Bush''s first 4 years. Look at what we have as a result of Bush''s mistake as an inexperience president.

I do not understand why people think Palin has more experience than Obama. Really none of them have experience and that is including McCain.
What needs to be examined is the quality and depth in someones mind. Palin is a nice lady - deep intellectual not so much. Obama clearly has a deep and intellectual mind. McCain - devoted, and deep but in a different manner than Obama. That is what is important. Who has the ability to synthesis an enourmous amount of information and plot an informed course from that. I personally feel Obama is that person.

The other thing I don''t understand in this culture is why being educated in being "elitist". Isn''t it a birthright. I just don''t understand why mediocrity should be rewarded by voting for McCain and Palin.

Althought I was raised as a Democrat, I have never been one to stick to a party during elections, but I have to say on this one I will be voting for the Democratic nominee. Sarah Palin may "only" be running as a VP, but Senator McCain is "only" 71 and has "only" had major health issues. I know for sure Senator Obama will have very competent advisors and knowing that he is an intelligent man and that Senator Biden will be a VERY qualifed VP and more than able to step up in case of some tragedy. VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN! P.S. I thought SNL''s skit was awesome!

Since when does having a full passport qualify anyone for public office? I would rather rely on Gov. Palin''s proven executive experience; than on Obama''s work as a comm. organizer & less than noteworthy work as a Senator. Remember HE is the presidential candidate! Palin has done more in two years to cut costs in our state than all other governors! Even if you just look at what she''s saved the state in running the gov''s office: She has declined the live-in chef, accorded every governor. She drives herself around (in her own car) on state business. She takes commercial flights to and from our capital and as you know sold the private jet that was bought by her Rep. predecessor. She has saved Alaskans hundreds of thousands in her efforts.
She is a decent human being who intelligently takes on all problems(even the unpopular ones)& truly works for the people who elected her. She has turned in people of her own party that were ripping off Alaskans. She fought against the major oil companies even though her husband worked in the oil fields. How many people would risk their own family''s income? It was a gutzy thing to do & speaks to her principals! The Dem''s & Obama have sent thirty + lawyers to AK. to find dirt on her & her family. This speaks to THEIR principals. Someone needs to do a story on what these lawyers are REALLY DOING! There''s no doubt Palin will help McCain make the changes needed when addressing the issues plaguing our country.

Yes folks, the party that brought you G.W. Bush, the worst President in U.S. history has actually outdone itself with Sarah Palin.

Less than two years ago she was mayor of Wasilla, the crystal meth capital of Alaska. And now they think she''s qualified to be the President of the United States of America.

Aparently 7 years of Bush has really lowered their expectations.

First off, Quoting Hillary in a debate talking about his accomplishments she said "HE GAVE A SPEECH IN 2004" so don''t lecture the GOP about a canidate.

She is the greatest pick ever because she excited the entire base and will get McCain elected.

McCain is even in Minnesota now. I am 45 years old and Minnesota has not been carried for the GOP in my voting history.

Dear pilotusa, i think you have a major fallacy in your comparison, which is a paraphrase of a hollywood actress who is totally out of touch with the majority of Americans. It is an insult to suggest Jesus Christ was just a community organizer. You are therefore trying to compare Obama to the son of God. How messed up is that? Here''s my question to you. WWJD - Obama is a lawyer. This is what Jesus said about lawyers in Luke chapter 11: "And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers." "Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered." Basically, Jesus was referring to the way Lawyers twist words so that no one can understand them. You can''t get a straight answer out of them, because they twist things so much. Just what we need in Washington - MORE LAWYERS - the reason this country is screwed up in the first place. Jesus had it right! SO DOES PALIN - the need to get rid of some with a smaller government. lwc777

"She thought it was quite funny, particularly because she once dressed up as Tina Fey for Halloween"

Translation: she did not find it funny and so she tries to take a ****** dig at Tina Fey, likely telling yet another casual lie in the process. This woman is an ultra-right wing version of Peggy Hill.

Dear PILOTUSA.
Your information on Obama''s "less than noteworthy" achievements as a Senator is sorely lacking, and insulting. Allow me to fill in just a little of Senator Obama%u2019s background.Below are links to NEWSWEEK and DAILY KOS, independent factual confirmation of key facts and editorial point of view. .

BTW, he is the Presidential candidate, not the Vice President, and has a distinguished career, blazing trails all his life. He graduated from Columbia University in NYC then got his law degree from Harvard, where he was elected by the student body to the highly prestigious Presidency of the Harvard Law Review. He passed the bar and became a civil rights lawyer, turning down several $80,000 positions in major law firms because he wanted to first give back to the community and worked for three years as a $12,000 per year community organizer. Later,he would practice law at a reputed Chicago law firm and also served as Professor/Lecturer of US Constitution Law at the University of Chicago.

He was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996. Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws and sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare. In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan''s payday loan regulations PART II FOLLOWS

and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures. He became chairman of the Illinois Senate''s Health and Human Services Committee in 2003 and led the unanimous, bipartisan passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling. In 2002, he gave his now famous speech against US invasion of Iraq and pressed President Bush not to engage in a "dumb war" that would be long-lasting, take too many lives and cost US taxpayers too much.

He was elected to the US Senate in 2004. That same year he delivered his now famous keynote speech at the Democratic Convention. He introduced two initiatives bearing his name: "Lugar%u2013Obama," which expanded the Nunn%u2013Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons,[and the "Coburn%u2013Obama Transparency Act." He introduced S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, as well as the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007. He sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran''s oil and gas industry, and co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.

He sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children''s Health Insurance Program providing one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries....and many, many more.

He has served on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations, the Environment and Public Works Cttee and Veterans'' Affairs Cttee. He fullfilled assignments with Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. He also became Chairman of the Senate''s subcommittee on European Affairs.Obama has made official trips to Eastern Europe, Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.

In his 4 years in the US Senate Obama successfully authored more major laws than McCain achieved in his 22 year career in the Senate.

Unlike Governor Palin and Senator McCain, who had ghost writers write their books, Obama himself authored and edited two best-selling books; Dreams of My Father and The Audacity of Hope.

I couldn''t include everything, and never even started life after he announced his candidacy for President, but at least you got "a flavor" of the man.

Perhaps now you will understand why I find your Governor Palin''s acceptance speech lie about Obama quite objectionable. She told a TV audience of 84,000,000 US voters that "Listening to him speak, it''s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but NOT A SINGLE MAJOR LAW OR REFORM". Not a single major law? Really, you have just seen a few of his dozens of "major laws" and accomplishments, how dare Governor Palin lie in such a bold-faced manner and insult Senator Obama before the US public. I conclude, therefore, that she is a dishonorable and dishonest woman who cannot be trusted not to lie to US voters. I was disappointed to discover that she was merely a McCain puppet. She lies too easily, as does McCain.

Why would you have America put a facile liar in the White House, when you could have Obama, a very admirable man.

I believe you told me Governor Palin was more qualified than Senator Obama. Please respond to me with background information about her, which I''d appreciate. But, somehow I think her background and accomplishments may be a little thinner.
