New Poll Shows McCain Up; Palin To Give First Interview

A new USA Today/Gallup poll indicates that John McCain received a bump coming out of his nominating convention, perhaps a significant one. As the polls roll in following a two-week period in which both presidential candidates chose their running mates and held their conventions, just about every poll comes with a caveat. It might be some time yet before the impact of it all settles in.

The Gallup poll shows McCain ahead 50 percent to 36 percent among registered voters but that lead increases to ten points among those identified as likely voters, 54 percent to 44 percent. The poll found a large increase in enthusiasm for John McCain within the GOP in the wake of the convention with 60 percent of them saying they are now more excited than usual about voting in November.

Meanwhile, McCain’s running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, will give her first major interview later this week. Appearing on Fox News Sunday yesterday, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis continued to complain about Palin’s treatment by the national media in the days since she was tapped for the ticket. “Why would we want to throw Sarah Palin into a cycle of piranhas called the news media that have nothing better to ask questions about than her personal life and her children,” Davis asked. Hours later though, the campaign announced that Palin would sit down for an interview with ABC News this week.

I''ll give you the two major reasons that Americans will vote for McCain / Palin.

1. Nancy Pelosi
2. Harry Reid

Spiegles22, the reality of the majority voted in by the American People to combat the Bush Administration in the 2006 election is the House of Representative has a Democratic Majority, but the US Senate is a push and with Bush as the acting President with veto powers nothing can be done because of the consistent and vehement obstructionism exercised by the Republicans.

If I was earning lets say $5 MILLION DOLLARS per year I may tend to agree with all your points, but I%u2019m not and the majority of working class Americans aren%u2019t either. Americans need to really review the many issues effecting them in the year%u2019s election and vote accordingly in their own better interests.

That%u2019s all I%u2019m saying.

speagles22 the dems didn''t have a working majority for the last two years! They did the best they could given the abysmal leadership we have had in the admin and they definitely did better than the reps who just rubber stamped every bill that came up. As for taxes boy I love the lower taxes on the middle class. unfortunately he gave the biggest break to the wealthiest and I don''t think they needed it.

Hey Mattcat25, first of all I like how you lump in the last two years of a Democrat controlled congress with Bush''s two terms as president. If things were so bad, maybe they should have done something about it. Second, you obviously have not payed any attention whatsoever to the tax cuts that happened twice during Bush''s time in office or you could not say things like, "while cutting Taxes to the Wealthy", "Unfair Taxation of the Middle Class", and "Abuse of Tax Laws". Go back and read those bills and see who got tax breaks... oh yeah, everyone did INCLUDING THE MIDDLE CLASS!!! The current tax rate on the middle class is actually 3 percent less than it was when we had our last Democrat in the White House (from 31% to 28%, and 28% to 25% depending on who you categorize as middle class). Check your facts before you go spouting off false propaganda.

Hey USCLimey,

She got to be mayor by getting more votes than her opponent. She got to be governor by doing the same. Funny thing is, with 80% approval, the news media seems to be focusing on the 20% that don''t like her.

Weird... They sound like pirhana to me...

What can we expect from Obama? Will we hear the words of Rev. Wright? How can this man spend most of his life detesting American values now embrace them? Get a clue people, this man may be a wonderful and loyal American, but then again do we really know that for certain? His relationships of the past and present brings to question his real loyality. It''s obvious that he is loyal top himself, just watching his speeches this is apparent. We have to be careful. If Obama is elected and is not what he promotes, his presidency will set back any future of his race even attempting to run for this office. Be extremely careful what you are wishing for. As far as Sarah Palin, she will clean the floor with Joe Biden, I have sympathy for him even before the debate. This debate "Is Above His Pay Grade!"

If Palin can''t stand up to the "piranhas" of the news media, how will she do with big sharks like Russia, Korea, and Iran?

I agree, it looks horribly like there might just enough kool-aid drinkers left to get McCain /Palin in. If this happens Bush will very soon find himself the next to worst president the US has ever had. And id anything happens to McCain - God help the world - how this Palin woman even got to be mayor of her village I have no idea.

For $20MM to pay off her own campaign debt I think Mrs. Clinton will do (and say) whatever the Obama team asks...knowing she really, truly dislikes the man. Let''s not forget all the colorful, but true, smears she made against him during her campaign. The negative campaign ads, personal attacks, lack of real experience...she didn''t spare any stabs. I hope Americans haven''t forgotten them as we should be looking deep into his speeches - there''s not much else on his resume to look at.

Obama''s biggest Dem rival, Hilliary, should have been his running mate and now is their "for hire" politician. I guess money CAN buy whatever you want?

Yes, there is something definitely wrong with the %u201CChange%u201D picture attempted by the McCain and Palin ticket. If, John McCain is such the %u201CMaverick%u201D he%u2019s now claiming to return to after 8 years of supporting the George W. Bush Conservative Agenda. Sarah Palin has displayed nothing less then a hard far right wing commitment possibly in contrast to the moderate leaning McCain.

Thus, why Republicans would put forth a ticket that would negate everything they%u2019ve worked so hard to achieve through the Bush Administration?

Ex-President Clinton Spoke to the Democratic Convention to remind America of a better time%u2026

What amazes me is that fact that there are so many people mesmerized by BO! I don''t think I would have had the former Pres. Clinton speaking on stage for me! How soon this Nation forgets about his conduct and then again who wouldn''t admit to it. On the other flipside, you have Edwards who at least admitted to his affair, but would not be allowed to speak. Hmmm, I think there is something wrong with this pic! I wouldn''t want these folks in my corner. Go McMain and Palin! Win the fight!

Repubs have scored well so far simply because many Americans are every bit as dimwitted as Repubs think they are. They fall for the same old BS nearly every time. Sarah Palin is just the same old stuff in a dress and high heels. She looks different and bright and shiny, so all the mindless sheep migrate right to it. Doesn''t matter whats inside the box, the outside looks pretty! Just like the Trojan horse.

Are Democrats pissed off at the leadership in their party. They sure ought to be. Massive caucus fraud went completely uninvestigated. hmm. Could it be that BO didn''t really have that much support. Media liked showing the perception of huge rally''s for BO, failing to mention the text messages and free concerts and food. Did the superdelgates do their job?.....or were they bought off by Pelosi pac, Bo pac, and moveon.org. Yeah, if I were a dem, I would be royally pissed at Nancy, Howie and Donna Brazille right about now.
