Some Republicans Skipping GOP Convention

Has the Republican brand really gotten this bad? CongressDaily is reporting that "[n]ine of 12 targeted Republicans running in the most competitive Senate races this fall are either skipping the Republican convention in St. Paul, Minn., or have not decided whether to attend."

The group includes embattled Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens, Maine Sen. Susan Collins, New Hampshire's John Sununu, and Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina.

It perhaps isn't shocking that these candidates would avoid St. Paul: Polls have shown that President George W. Bush, who will speak at the convention, has a sub-30 percent approval rating, while the Republican Party as a whole is seen more negatively than positively.

Democrats, meanwhile, are generally seen more positively than negatively in polls, and most seem eager to grasp the coattails of presumptive nominee Barack Obama: CongressDaily writes that "most Democrats in those races are either planning to attend the party's late August convention in Denver or are leaning toward attending the event."

The outlet also notes that Republicans aren't citing Mr. Bush or John McCain as their reason for passing on the convention, saying instead that they have to focus on campaigning.

Senator Susan Collins, You might as well enjoy the convention, because you are going down with the rest of the Republicons. You shouldn''t have believed Karl Rove when he told you, follow me and repeat my lies and vote to help us get the wealth of this country transferred to the private sector, and the Republicans will have dominance over the American People for ever.

Well said by a true American Patriot!

The one who catches him gets to take him home and pay tax, tax, tax on him for the time they keep him. That''''s the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth as Obama seems to see the truth.

Hmmmm..sour grapes maybe?

Republicans!! Please get McCain tested for his memory and possible incipient Alzheimer''s. I am registered Green and dont care which party wins but PLEASE, not another Alzheimer''s president. Reagan was asleep for 3 years with Nancy hiding him and his condition.
The constant "gaffes" are not just silly little mistakes of a person in the limelight all the time. He really messes up on substantive issues, and often. Please get him off the stage before the convention. GET HIM TESTED.
The ''medical report'' had NOTHING on neurology.

After 8 years, Americans have been CONned by a recovering alcoholic- the incoherent and incompetent dubya... if he ever did have an IQ of 125, dubya is a perfect example of how alcohol abuse can devastate your brain. I don''t want another absent-minded door *** in the Oval Office.

Alzheimered Geritoled Demented Sleepy CANE walking McCANE is too old. Sadly, this Senior Citizen insanely believes his as sharp as ever. Truth is he is just too old. Senior Citizen McCain will eventually be too brain-dead to really make a sound judgement for America and it will be his advisors/cabinet members who will be running the Country. (Seems too familiar) I want someone who will work for the future of America for at least 4 solid years...! I don''t question McCain''s HEART, but McCain''s true LIABILITY is his AGE and I''m not going to ignore it and I''ll be damned if I don''t let you know it. There are so many of you bloggers that try to downplay it, but you are not acting in America''s best interest. Use your brain. Don''t be another dubya. McAIN''T is just too too old... I''m not voting for the guy who is essentially going to be passing the Oval Office to the VEEP.

I saw an interesting quote about how Bush gets stuff done - his game plan, you might say - to get all that "hard work" done... wiretapping, torture, vetos, starting wars, and all.

Here it is, right from the horse''s a$$, oops I mean mouth:

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

Source:

And I think Americans are finally getting wise to how the Bush Regime and his bosom buddy McCain operate (well, it HAS been nearly 8 yrs. - one would think even the lowest infomation voters could "get it" in that amount of time) and are not buying in.

As for incumbent Republicans, I doubt staying away from the party is going to help all that much. Switching parties, maybe. Pretending you don''t know Bush, not so much.
