McCain Jabs Obama at Sheriffs' Conference

(CBS)
From CBS News' John Bentley:

(INDIANAPOLIS) Taking the opportunity to criticize both a recent Supreme Court decision and his opponent, John McCain called the high court’s decision last week to ban the death penalty for child rapists “overreaching,” and a template for the kind of justices Barack Obama would pick for the Court.

“It's a peculiar kind of moral evolution that disregards the democratic process, and inures solely to the benefit of child rapists. It was such a jarring decision from the Court that my opponent, Sen. Obama, immediately and to his credit expressed his disagreement,” McCain said. “My opponent may not care for this particular decision, but it was exactly the kind of opinion we could expect from an Obama Court.”

Speaking at the National Sheriffs' Association's annual conference, McCain said the most important decision a president can make to assist law enforcement is appointing strict constructionist judges.

“When a serious crime is investigated, prosecuted, and punished, it takes many hours and the best efforts of police, trial courts, and juries,” McCain said. “Yet one badly reasoned opinion, by one overreaching judge, can undo it all. Just like that, evidence of guilt can be suppressed, or a dangerous predator released because of judge-made laws having little or nothing to do with the requirements of the Constitution.”

Of course. Sen Oboma is one of the most liberal of U.S. Senators by virtually every poll doing such rankings, as well as by a common sense observation of his positions.

Therefore, it is a given that he will seek the most liberal justices he can find ... those who like to make law rather them merely interpret and follow the dictates of the founders who wrote that great document.

If you have issues with "being proud" to be an American ... if you for 20 years you''ve been part of the "God *** America church" and if your leading military supporter says American War Heros were merely taking a "ride" over the war and got shot down without making any "real" war decisions ... THEN, it fits you will want Supreme Court justices with exactly those similar *** AMERICA type philosphies (as shown by his wife, his preacher/church and his military advisor/surrogate!

If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck ....

It was wisely said: "CONSISTENCY is the HOBGOBLIN of SMALL MINDS" and Obama is showing us a consisteny of *** American that surrounds him!

quack, quack, quack!

Obama denounced the decision in the child rape case and it is his fault for the court''s ruling. Mccain is practicing the old time politics of accusing his opponent of everything bad and taking credit for everything good. Since Bush has no done anyting good, he has to do the former

I thought this was suppose to be about the issues.

My apologies for the multiple POSTINGS ... technical glitch here.

*** in the comment stands for "G. D. America" ... if anybody did not know.

Your preacher can say it in church, if you are Senator Obama, but CBS does not want to see it on their web site. Actually, I do understand CBS on that.

I don''t understand how someone can be pro-life and pro-death at the same time.

Either EVERY life is sacred (including criminals and unborns) or it is not.

There can be no middle ground here.

Anyone here see that Obama is getting more money from military personnel than McCain is? Why would that be Cons?

Overreaching????? That is exactly the kind of thing judges should rule on. The constitution is more important than McCain and his politics, but he sure doesn''t seem to think so.

And how can he judge Obama''s pick when they have not even happened yet.

Again, pointing out the dangerousness of a McCain administration. He is another Bush.

ljjh2008 Yeah Obama is a liberal. Just in time, thank God. Because outside of Mother Teresa (may she RIP), there are basically two kinds of people: those who live their lives in an essentially selfish manner and feel guilty about it. They%u2019re called liberals. And those who live their lives in an essentially selfish manner and are proud of it. They%u2019re called conservatives.

The first may be capable, on occasion, of responding to an ideal higher than their own self-interest; the second don%u2019t even know that such things exist.

Has there been anything that McBush has not flip flopped on? Now he is criticizing the activist judges that his hero Butch appointed. This is a guy who voted against the GI Bill and he wants to be the next commander in thief?

How stupid is McSame. Don''t respond, it''s rhetorical. "judge made laws having little to do with the constitution". hello stupid mcsame. That was the US Supreme Court. THe highest court in the land. The arbiter of the US Constitution. It doesn''t get any more "judge made" then that.

McLame, McBush it''s all McSame. An ignorant right wing extremist like the Bush crime family. Is he still running? Is there anyone who is sane who would vote for this ruinous war-monger? What an embarrassment for America.

I agree with the Court''s decision for the simple reason that if a child rapist has no reason to leave the child alive (such as avoiding the death penalty), why shouldn''t he kill the child in order to prevent that child from identifying him? This decision means that child murder merits a more severe penalty than child rape, and that''s about all it does. States can give child rapists - ANY rapists - life without parole (which would prevent recidivism), but they''re not likely to do that. Someone would have to be able to differentiate between the 17 year old who has consensual *** with a 15 year old and the 30 year old who rapes an 8 year old, and I don''t think there''s a prosecutor or judge in the country that''s willing to make that distinction.

Hers''s REAL News:

WASHINGTON %u2014 The Pentagon will buy and operate one or two commercial imagery satellites and plans to design and build another with more sophisticated spying capabilities, according to government and private industry officials.

The satellites could spy on enemy troop movements, spot construction at suspected nuclear sites and alert commanders to militant training camps.

You know you Nazi''s keep saying this but as of yet I see NOTHING of substance to indicate that McSame intends to change much of anything that the WORST in our history has done... ESPECIALLY on the Economy. There, I hear just more of the same tired of trash we''ve heard not for the last 3 decades.. Now all of you know the lines so say them with me!! "We''re going to Cut Taxes for the Rich, that will Trickle Down to you, We''re going to Cut Spending to PAY for it and THEN we''ll balance the Budget"! VERY GOOD! You see EVERYONE know the lines now and they KNOW they are LIES. NO Republican President has Balanced ONE, NOT ONE, Budget... AFTER the Worse who needs MORE of this?? SIEG HEIL BUSH!!

ugh gad, I''m not good playing turtle/ostrich/puppy in the face of an attack by a jungle animal.

You would think after what happened to John Kerry, Dems wouldn''t feel so confident about conceding to GOP their superior toughness. But Barack says everybody lets just hold our breath and let it pass, so I guess we''ll all just have to let McLame prattle on and if he makes any progress.

They''re all over him with the rhetoric on Mugabe, child rapists, guns . . . geez . . .

Lets convict them all real quick and put them to death. Then after 25 years you can say you were sorry for convicting the wrong man. Do you know how many people were innocent and set free after spending most of their life in jail. McCain has some nerve talking about justice when his boy Bush passed a law that clears himself of war crimes going all the way back to 2001. Imagine that, Bush threw out the judge and jury and freed himself. This is just to funny to talk about.

Though in all fairness compared to how far to the right fringe the GOP is these days Ike would be thought of as a radical leftist.

McCain needs to ****, since Obama hasn''t pick a judge yet. McCain has already declared that he''ll appoint judges that will overturn Roe and other women''s rights. Something the self declared feminists who are considering voting for him should think about.
