McCain Declares Energy Independence by 2025

From CBS News' Jamie Farnsworth:

Las Vegas, NV – Senator John McCain unveiled the name of his energy project in Las Vegas today as he wrapped up the western swing of his two week energy tour. Deemed the Lexington Project, McCain’s plan states the U.S. will be independent of foreign energy sources by the year 2025.

“For the town where Americans asserted their independence once before,” McCain explained of the plan’s namesake in Virginia. “Let it begin today with this commitment: In a world of hostile and unstable suppliers of oil, this nation will achieve strategic independence by 2025."

McCain called for Americans to unite to complete this task in 17 years. “Much will be asked of industry as well, as automakers and others adapt to this great turn toward new sources of power,” he said. “A great deal will depend on each one of us, as we learn to make smarter use of energy, and also to draw on the best ideas of both parties, and work together for the common good.”

Foreseeing criticism, McCain listed many historical accomplishments achieved in less than 17 years—among them overthrowing Nazi Germany and landing on the moon.

“That is the scale of our achievement when we set our minds to a task,” he said. “That is what this country can do when we see a danger, and declare a purpose, and find the will to act.”

"This irresponsible statement made by McCain could be construed as the United States willing to sustain war against Islam for the next 100 years if necessary."

Only if you are a jihadist who really doesn''t need to "misconstrue" this to motivate himself to kill innocent people. His political opponents seem to be the only ones doing this for their own partisan advantage. Yes, change you can believe in my eye.

What he said, and what he %u201Cmeant%u201D seems to be an omnificent characteristic with John McCain.
McCain supports the presence of our Military Troops in Iraq for 100 years if necessary. The problem in comparing Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan is when both countries surrendered the United States had enough Troops on the ground to secure the entire country at the end of the World War II.

The problem with the statement of %u201C100 years if necessary%u201D made by Republican Presidential Nominee John McCain is that according to Islamic Fatwa Islam is currently in the second 100 years of the predicted 200 year Jihad. This irresponsible statement made by McCain could be construed as the United States willing to sustain war against Islam for the next 100 years if necessary.

In Iraq the rebels haven%u2019t surrendered their country to the United States and may never even in 100 years.

"still 75 years left of%u2026.WAR?"

That''s a myth that''s been debunked by everyone from the AP to FactCheck.org and beyond. He specifically said a situation where soldiers weren''t being harmed, as we have with Germany and Japan. A presence -- not a war.

The Dems plan would ruin the economy and hurt millions of people. Typical Dem plan.

Don''t forget we have heard this from other Republican politicians before. Remember when George Sr. was going to be the "environmental President".
