DNC Plans Lawsuit Against McCain On Public Financing

The Democratic National Committee announced that it intends to file a lawsuit in U.S. District Court to try to compel the Federal Election Commission to examine whether John McCain broke election laws when his campaign rejected public fundraising, the Associated Press reports.

When McCain turned down a taxpayer-funded $5.8 million, his campaign was able to skirt spending limits that would have been in place until the Republican Party convention.

The issue in question is a $4 million line of credit obtained by the McCain campaign last year, which the DNC has argued was a violation of federal regulations. The McCain campaign and its bankers have denied that claim.

The lawsuit is a follow-up to a complaint the DNC filed with the FEC in February, which was not acted upon, since four FEC nominees were waiting Senate confirmation and the body lacked a quorum.

*Update: Later on Tuesday, RNC chief counsel Sean Cairncross called the lawsuit "meritless," the AP reports. Cairncross said that McCain was entitled to withdraw from the public finance system because he didn't take public funds during the primary season.

That website should be renamed to:

WOMEN-AGAINST-ROE-V-WADE.

A vote for John McCain is most certainly a vote to see Roe v Wade overturned.
Although I personally don''t think abortion is a good method of birth control, I do believe that the WOMEN MUST HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE THAT CHOICE for themselves.

McSame has promised the Republican Party that he will appoint super conservative "anti-abortion" supporters to the Supreme Court.

I''m old enough to remember the desperate measure women & girls went through trying to end an unwanted pregnancy. Knitting needles & coat hangers ...

The horror, trauma and deadly outcomes of illegal backstreet abortions have ruined the lives of women for generations.

It is so amazing the vast differances in perspectives of how some people see McCain and Obama. For instance, those who believe (and are clearly misinformed) McCain is not a third term Bush, he is far less conservative. Obama is not experianced nor is Obama qualified, and yet, some people continue to support someone who will raise their taxes and put this country at risk on foreign policy for which he knows absolutely nothing about. Wow, that is the worst shame.

Also, TruUSA - Hillary DIDN''T CARE about the Michigan and Florida primaries until she discovered that she couldn''t WIN without them, then SHE wanted to change the rules that SHE SUPPORTED IN THE FIRST PLACE!! (her support of the DNC decision not to seat the MI and FL deligates is on her own website) Do you read anything before you post?

Where do you get this hogwash? My guess is that you make it up as you go. Obama was ALL FOR a revote in Michigan and Florida. You should get your facts straight before you post....every time you post it seems to be "spin" to try to make Obama look bad. The MILITANT Hillary supporters really need to get over it.

The DNC who changes laws at their own whim? How disgraceful and hypocritical. It is terribly frightening to think a person like this, ''Obama'' would have a chance to be chosen to lead this wonderful country- Too many people just don''t ''get it'' and I pray each day they wake up -for the safety and the security of this beautiful country: Vote MCCain 2008.

Howard Dean has won the nomination for his guy. Why doesn''t he just shut up and enjoy the millions they have been getting from George Soros to run Hillary and McCain out of town? Unfortunately, the rest of us will suffer from their choice of president.

Thanks for the Head''s Up. Last I heard the DNC was having trouble coming up with the money for the convention in Denver. On top of that I continue to receive emails requesting donations to our local, state, national, and individual candidates coffers. I''m so glad to hear that there is so much money now to waste that these other issues aren''t relevant anymore and I no longer need to make a donation. Accountability folks. Quit throwing away money and get on with the business of getting Democratic control in Washington.
