Obama: Republicans Using Terrorism to Win Elections

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama fired back at criticism of his anti-terrorism policy by high level McCain advisors today, accusing them of politicizing the issue and drumming up fear in order to win elections.

“What they are trying to do is what they’ve done every election cycle which is to use terrorism as a club to make the American people afraid, to win elections, that’s what they’re trying to do,” Obama told reporters on a flight to Washington D.C.

Earlier today, John McCain’s foreign policy advisors called Obama’s plans to combat terrorism a “policy of delusion” and a “perfect manifestation of a September 10th mindset.”

As he has done many times on the stump, Obama argued that Republican strategy post-Sept. 11 has made the United States less safe. He said, “These are the same guys who helped to engineer the distraction of the war in Iraq at a time when we could’ve pinned down the people who actually committed 9/11,” adding that Osama bin Laden is still at large.

Obama called for a bipartisan consensus on combating terrorism, arguing that the country should not be divided on the issue. “We’ve got to stop trying to play political games with them,” Obama said, “and that’s what we’ve been doing for the last 8 years and that’s part of why the country’s been so divided around issues where we shouldn’t be divided.”

** Just because your candidate didn''t win the primary, doesn''t mean you should vote for the total enemy. You really want to vote for Mccain just because Hillary didn''t win the primary? Even though Obama and Clinton share most of the exact same positions? So you will say that you voted for Mccain out of spite, and tell that to the millions of families that will lose more soldier family members in Iraq and then Iran under Mccain? how could you?

Ever been to a magic show? The magician tries to get you to focus on his hands so you don''''t see what is being done to pull off his act. You''''re supposed to keep your eyes on the object. This is what the Bush administration and McCain have done. While Bin Laden is over there in Afghanistan/Pakistan laughing his A$$ off at us, we''''re focused on Iraq. Iraq is an unnecessary war that has crippled our country''''s economy and has cost the lives of 4100 of our military, plus tens of thousands of Iraquis. Obama wants us to focus on the ball, get out of Iraq and go after Bin Laden and I, for one support that plan. Obama 08

How do you explain that after "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED", when Bin Laden coughs WE TREMBLE. The invasion of IRAQ was not only a distraction, but also a way to get rich by giving contract to companies in which key members of the administration have great interests. After their terms in office, they will go claim their "prizes" by being chairman of the board and be paid Zillions of dollars while the regular guy like you suffers. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THE MIGHTIEST ARMY IN THE WORLD CAN''T NAB A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL???????????? go figure. If you want BIN LADEN to stay at large and continue spitting his videos to scare the s.... out of you, then you know who to vote for

Over 4,000 American Babies have been returned to there Mothers already from Iraq in pine boxes. The Republican Bush Administration has banned all photos from being taken of bodies of fallen Soldiers from his War on Iraq. The Bush Administration has concocted a formula for counting %u201Cgood deaths%u201D in Iraq as a soldier engaged in a fire fight face to face or blown up by an Improvised Explosive Devise. All off the battle field deaths like in the hospital or in transit, or Soldiers killed from fire from the behind are not counted. Amputees, Permanent Brain Damage, or Suicides are also not in the casualty count. There could possibly be 30,000 to 50,000 injured, or killed Soldiers involved from Iraq.

And, more every day%u2026

jack3213,

You must make over $200,000 a year because Obama isn''''t raising my taxes, he''''s giving me the cut you''''ve been getting.

We need to end welfare as we know it and that means that the wealthy have to pay their fair share like the rest of u do under Republicans and Democrats alike.

Has anyone talked about Obama''s voting record "or lack of"? Does anyone ever talk about what changes and how he is going to make? No, all anyone cares about is his color. That has nothing to do with leading this great nation. Black, White, Red, Orange who cares, What I care about is lowering gas prices, cutting taxes, keeping us safe, stop WASTEFUL government spending and NOT appoint leftest judges who will RUIN this country. That''s what''s important to me. And it is freightful thinking that Obama with NO experience could be president just because of his color and that he will "change" American. I love America. I don''t want to "change" America.

Jack3213 will be losing $Millions! Under a Democratic Presidential Administration and Congress. Jack3213 will lose more in one year then most of us will earn in a lifetime. But, the Conservatives have enjoyed a windfall of prosperity over the last 8 years under Bush. The Conservative Agenda has diverted our Federal Treasury Funds to the Private Sector in droves.

Bush has created more $Billionaires unsurpassed in all of US History. At the same time we%u2019ve seen the majority of Americans standard of living drop, and drop, and drop again%u2026

Unlike most Jack3213 has more to lose then the Average Middle Class Working American. So, if you were in (his/her) position you would be snarky, unhinged and a bit fanatical too at the thought of your war mongering, energy terrorists, public money gluttony Republican Party coming to an abrupt end.

SgtRDS-E4 : YOu have ot completely backwards, man- It is the Democrat ( OBama) who is the coward and condescending to assume he knows what the *F* he is talking about ( on any issue) When it comes to being honorable and brave MCCAIN has him with flying colors. That is what the USA needs for a leader, not some BS ''''preecher'''' from the ''''hood'''' who claims to know something, when, in fact, he knows ZERO. LMAO

Republicans use war and terror to get elected. You could get a cleaner to become the President of America if the person employs a team that knows how to put fear into people. Those who vote for GOP should not complain about job losses and bad state of economy. They should also contribute more towards the war for supporting the war, which has nothing to do with defending America.

Obama calls Maliki the President of Iraq-----he doesn''''t know the who is the President of Iraq and Obama thinks we have 57 states...I guess his photo shot of sand bagging went over well, but his phone conversation (too busy with the photo opt and other things to meet in person) obviously came away with the Iraqi Minister saying his was "perfectly clear" to Obama---who just can''''t hear right...Obama can only hear the beats of the drums to be President. We have two really big issues in this country right now, the economy and the war in Iraq. This youngster cannot solve either but he has a nice song, good speeches, and great photo shots.
===================================
Well its better then staying in Iraq for the next century. How many of our brothers, sisters, cousins, mothers and fathers have to die before you war mongers realize that this little economic adventure in Iraq is doomed to fail (and guess who is going to continue to foot the bill in the process).

At least Obama uses his own words, Mcbush needs the help of a script writer whose cowardly words are placed on an electronic machine, PATHETIC!!

George Bush, Richard Cheney and the Republican Party have been the Terrorists to the World. War Mongering is the very reason Oil Futures Speculation has soared. John McCain has picked up the War Monger Drum Beat on initiating another War against Iraq''s Neighbor Iran. If McCain, or for that matter George Bush is successful at launching Military Action against Iran, Americans will see the price of Oil reach and possibly exceed $200.00 per barrel ($10.00 a gallon).

A vote for McCain would be a vote for War Mongering and Terrorism against the World. Not to mention higher gasoline prices.

flying colors ? Do you mean the confederate flag he was in favour before being against ?

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) -- Former GOP presidential candidate John McCain called for the removal of the Confederate battle flag from atop the South Carolina Statehouse on Wednesday, acknowledging that his refusal to take such a stance during his primary battle for the Palmetto State was a "sacrifice of principle for personal ambition."

So you were talking about the flying colors of personal ambition ?

It is so amazing the vast differances in perspectives of how some people see McCain and Obama. For instance, those who believe (and are clearly misinformed) McCain is not a third term Bush, he is far less conservative. Obama is not experianced nor is Obama qualified, and yet, some people continue to support someone who will raise their taxes and put this country at risk on foreign policy for which he knows absolutely nothing about. Wow, that is the worst shame.
