Obama's Father's Day Message

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

CHICAGO, IL --Barack Obama delivered a passionate speech on fatherhood today at a south side African American church, where he called on men to take greater responsibility for their families. He spoke from the pulpit at the Apostolic Church of God, while his wife and two daughters sat with parishioners.

“We need fathers to recognize that responsibility doesn’t just end at conception. That doesn’t make you a father,” Obama said to applause and hoots from the parishioners, “What makes you a man is not the ability to have a child- any fool can have a child. That’s doesn’t make you father. It’s the courage to raise a child that makes you a father.”

Obama, whose father abandoned him when he was two years old, said he understands the difficulties of growing up in a single parent home. He added that his father’s absence has taught him how to be a better parent to his two daughters, Sasha and Malia.

“I resolved many years ago that it was my obligation to break the cycle, that if I could be anything in life, I would be a good father to my children; that if I could give them anything, I would give them that rock, that foundation, on which to build their lives.”

He called on parents to instill an “ethic of excellence” in their children, expecting them to strive for the high goals. While recalling a brief speech that he had given to a graduating class of eighth grade girls, Obama said he was surprised by all the “pomp and circumstance” of the ceremony.

“It’s just eighth grade,” he said and later added, “an eighth-grade education doesn’t cut it today. Let’s give them a handshake and tell them to get their butts back in the library.”

He noted that many African Americans didn’t support him initially because they didn’t believe that a black man could be elected president. “What was interesting was how many people would come up to me and say ‘oh Barack, we love you man, we’re rooting for you but we just don’t think that a black man can be elected president,” Obama recalled.

“I mean we had already defeated ourselves before we even started. We didn’t set high enough expectations for ourselves, we believed that somebody else can do it but we can’t do it. And that filters down to our children.”

Obama, who left Trinity United Church almost a month ago, attended the Apostolic Church of God today because of his close relationship to former pastor, Bishop Arthur Brazier. It is the also one of the largest African American churches in Chicago.

Malik Obama confirms his half-brother Barack grew up a Muslim

Apparently the Obamas of Kenya have no doubt -- contrary to the claims of the Obama campaign, that the presidential candidate was raised a Moslem. They take that as a given.
"Barack Obama''s half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background. In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya."

Wow, I didn''t know he found another church already. I wonder how the folks at the other church feel right about now. I am thinking not too good. I would argue with Barack and Michelle that his choice to run for the highest office in this country is a selfish decision when he should be thinking about finding a job that allows hims much more time with his children. Children don''t need fancy stuff, they need our time and attention. He is asking his brothers to step up to the plate and be there for their kids, and yet he is possibly taking a job that will take him away from his children a lot and put enormous strain on their family. His kids didn''t ask for this. We have it all backwards in this world. Men and women should be delaying the busy years until after the kids are grown and gone. There is plenty of time for both a career and time for the family. Barack will be shifting his responsibility to his wife, and she will be shifting that responsibility to other family members, and then to outsiders. We are a selfish society.

It would be pretty hard to genetically determine the ancestors of anyone that you do not have a trace of genetic material for.

From Webster''s Dictionary
an7ces7tral
Pronunciation: an-%u02C8ses-tr%u0259l
Function: adjective
Date: 15th century
: of, relating to, or inherited from an ancestor.

You see that inerited. What is inherited, genes.

The definition of background
Main Entry: 1back7ground
Pronunciation: %u02C8bak-%u02CC(g)rau%u0307nd
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Date: 1672
1 a: the scenery or ground behind something b: the part of a painting representing what lies behind objects in the foreground
2: an inconspicuous position
3 a: the conditions that form the setting within which something is experienced b (1): the circumstances or events antecedent to a phenomenon or development.

So it is an inherited antecedent, inherited antecedents in people come from genes. Go argue with Webster if you want to, you only show yourself more foolish by doing so.

Definition: Ancestral Background- Inherited from an ancestor. And what pray tell do we inherit from our ancestors? Genes. Webster''s Dictionary and any biology book says it all.

Tracy, If you get genes from your ancestors, then logically, ancestral background is interchangable with genetic background. You have no idea what you''re talking about.

I was the one who admitted to using the word genetically. I know what it means, and it is the same thing as ancestral background. You only have genes from your ancestors. Go read a biology book then come back, your posts will make more sense.

I have no problem using the word genetically. "Genetically" connected to the people of the iberian peninsula". Ancestral background of people originally form Iberian peninsula. Means the same thing.

And that church does not hate whites or jews and has members of those backgrounds as members. And Obama did nothing wrong in making his speech which was the point of this article and posting in the first place. No on has been able to give any logical arguments to the contrary.

your premise is that they have to be descendants of the iberian peninsula,,, regardless of them living in a spanish culture,,,
--------------------------------
No, my premise is that they have to be descendants of the iberian pennisula, or have a culture and language connected to people from that area of the world.

Terror. If they are isolated, in the middle of the jungle as are some tribes in South America, they are non-hispanic because they are not living in hispanic culture. Their culture is native
