Conrad: Obama Considering Ex-Military Leaders For VP

In picking his running mate, Barack Obama has said he intends to keep the process confidential and is "not gonna do it in the press.” But it appears that someone forgot to send the memo to Kent Conrad.

After meeting with Obama's vice presidential vetting search committee on Tuesday, the North Dakota senator told the Associated Press that Obama is considering former top military leaders for the VP slot.

Conrad didn't get into specifics, saying that the Obama team had tossed around "many names" among current elected officials, former elected officials and former military leaders, according to the AP.

Meanwhile, at a press conference in St. Louis today, Obama said that the decision of who to select as his running mate ultimately rests with the candidate himself, reports CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic.

“They are giving me information and, then, I will then exercise judgment in terms of who I want to select as a VP candidates,” Obama said.

There are democrats that served honorably in what military? Certainly not the US military that they screw at every opportunity.

Really dumb post in my humble opinion. Bush has screwed up the military with the help of his draft-dodging VP, more than anyone in recent memory.

A guy who turned his back on President Reagan and refused Nancy Reagan''s plea not to show images of himself with her husband during his moveon.org funded campaign as a Democrat.

A guy who calls himself a Reagan Democrat, not realizing that Stepin'' Fetchit hates WHITE Reagan Democrats. But hey, he''ll buss Obama''s gutless arse but not support a fellow veteran who loves this country.

Obama`s Running Mate, will be..

James Henry "Jim" Webb, Jr. (born February 9, 1946) is the junior Senator from Virginia.

He is also an author and a former Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

A 1968 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Webb served as a Marine Corps infantry officer until 1972, and is a highly decorated Vietnam War combat veteran.

During his four years with the Reagan administration, Webb served as the first Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, then as Secretary of the Navy.

Webb won the Democratic nomination for the 2006 Virginia Senate race by defeating Harris Miller in the primary, then won the general election by defeating the Republican incumbent George Allen.

Webb''''s thin margin in the general election (less than 0.5%) kept the outcome uncertain for nearly two days after polls closed on November 7, 2006, and provided the final seat that tilted the Senate to Democratic control.

Webb would become the senior Senator from Virginia in 2009 with the planned retirement of current senior Senator John Warner.
