Obama Says Clinton Meant No Offense With RFK Comment

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

SAN JUAN, P.R. -- This afternoon, Barack Obama responded to Hillary Clinton's comments yesterday when she referenced th assassination of Robert F. Kennedy as a reason she's staying in the race this year. Obama said he believes that Clinton was not trying to be offensive.

"I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Senator Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make and I think that is what happened here," Obama said in a radio interview today.

"Senator Clinton says that she did not intend any offense by it and I will take her at her word on that."

Meantime, the Puerto Rican community hosted a caminata - a traditional march for government officials - for Obama in Old San Juan. As he marched, salsa music played throughout the town.

"I will never forget the support and the friendship that I've seen here in Puerto Rico and I hope that everybody is going to be turning out to vote next Sunday because you can go ahead and put me over the top. If we do well in Puerto Rico, there is no reason why I will not be announcing that I am the Democratic nominee for President of the United States of America."

There are 55 delegates at stake in what's turned out to be relevant Puerto Rico caucuses on June 1.

I love the way Obama''s people jumped on Clinton''s remark, spun it until it was on fire and then he magically comes out and says, "she didn''t mean it". OF COURSE SHE DIDN''T! It was in no way intended to suggest that he might be assassinated, but these incompetent media personas just HAD to have something to scream about over the weekend. This is just one of the reasons her supporters will NEVER vote for him. And with this bunk, the numbers are growing. This man plays an evil game and has untold ulterior motives. NO to OBAMA 08

Did Hillary''s RFK Remark Doom Her?

If it didn''t it most certainly should. It shows what diabolical & devious mind set this Woman has.

Robert Kennedy was one of our most beloved and caring candidate''s this country has ever seen. Senator Ted Kennedy, the liberal lion, as he is often referred to, endorsed Obama, much to the chagrine of Hillary. Senator Kennedy has also recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the brain.

To Hillary this was an opportunity to SAY LOUD & CLEAR FOR ALL AMERICANS to see what me Hillary Clinton is all about. Will not pass up a sick & perverted opportunity that this afforded. GOTCHA TED - GOTCHA OBAMA.

CACKLE CACKLE CACKLE - So blatantly contempable. The Clinton''s diversive & polarizing polictics. It''s time for them to go!

The rules committee meets next week probably to decide what to do about MI & FL. If they don''t lavish Clinton with delegates and split them in some reasonable fashion, will Hillary start ratcheting down the rhetoric and gravitate toward the team concept, or will she continue with the "subtle" jabs. BTW, I''m not referring to the RFK thing, but the misogynist comment she recently made, or McCain''s a better choice... things like that.

It is the same revolting strategy that Obama has employed against Bill and Hillary. With Bill, he is the one who raises the ''race card'' on Bill. With Hillary, he raises ''the assassination card'' to make himself important and marginalize her at the same time. Then, now he acts if he ''forgives'' her. This is disgusting! It was clear from the context of her remark that she was talking about various campaign activities in June from past campaigns. Once she recognizes the potential misunderstanding, she came right out and apologized. Unlike Obama and his reverend Wright, it took 20 years without any recognition of poor judgment and he aggressively accused America of taking things out of context before the evidence was made beyond any shadow of the doubt.

Fake outrage and republican-like behavior
by likelihood zero, Sat May 24, 2008 at 01:15:20 AM EST

Today Senator Clinton made a statement in relations to previous primaries. She said that other campaigns in the past went well into the month of June and she gave examples such as the 1992 and the 1968 campaign. She said that RFK was still campaigning in June and his campaign was still going when he was assassinated.

Our supporters went online and screamed bloody murder. Some of our supporters started running like chickens without heads, yelling and screaming that Senator Clinton is staying in the campaign because Senator Obama might be assassinated, which would allow her to get the nomination.

In a nutshell, our supporters are saying that Senator Clinton wants and wishes Senator Obama to be assassinated (check the posts and comments here and on other blogs).

Let me say this in the most direct way possible and as straight as i can: this is the most dishonest faked outrage i have seen since i got involved in politics in mid-1980s. It is just plain disgusting that we behaved like that. We ought to be ashamed of ourselves. We brought nothing but shame to the campaign of Senator Obama today.

The RFK reference is telling because it illuminates Senator Clinton''s way of thinking. In her world, Obama is significant only because he is an obstacle that stands between her and what she wants. And a number of things (an unforeseen scandal or a plane crash -- or even assassination) might fortuitously remove that obstacle from her path at any moment.

Given that outlook, put yourself in Obama''s position for a moment. Would you want Clinton as your vice president?

Ever the gentleman, Obama emanates kindness to a rival who has done everything she can think of to diminish him. The big lesson for her is that she''s the one she is hurting. That''s the lesson that the McCain campaigners need to learn from. It''s just plain as day. Obama''s capable of being gentlemanly but it comes from strength. Rivals who don''t get that are likely to engage the dialog at too low a level.

Fact is: BHObama has been receiving death threats ever since he decided to ambitiously run for president. Even his ugly wife said so in one of the TV interviews last february. THat is why he is protected by the Secret Service, paid for with our tax dollars. So why are the Bhobamaniacs, his blind followers and fanatic pundits become suddenly busy spinning Hillary''s comments into painting her like she is the assasin? Fact is: threats are present even if Hillary didn''t say anything about it. If Bhobamaniacs cannot accept this fact, then they are just plain naive(aka stupid).

Fact is: BHO is a sleazy unpatriotic politician who will do and say anything to trick naive voters into voting for him. He even wore a lapel flag pin the other day! What a joke! We, independents, can never trust him. We vote for either Hillary or McCain.
