Obama Takes His Message To Record Crowd

PORTLAND, ORE. -- With just two days left until the May 20 primaries, Barack Obama continued to campaign in Oregon today, drawing a massive crowd at an outdoor rally here, his largest crowd to date according to the campaign. They estimated that 75,000 people were in attendance, citing the Portland fire chief.

Noticeably absent from Obama’s campaign schedule in the coming days are stops in Kentucky. When asked if he has given up on state’s primary, where Hillary Clinton holds double-digit lead in the polls, Obama said he doesn’t give up on anything.

“I don’t give up on things, we've gotta make choices and we can’t be everywhere at once,” Obama told reporters after making a local stop for ice cream with his family.

Obama’s top advisers have argued that May 20 will be a pivotal day for the campaign because they will have gained the majority of elected pledged delegates. Even though Obama said he will not declare victory on Tuesday, he said he will have a stronger case to present to superdelegates.

“We will have the majority of pledged delegates at that point and obviously are going to make the argument to any superdelegates remaining that we should be the nominee,” Obama said.

Publicly the campaign has said they will not encourage Clinton to drop out of the race and will leave that decision up to her. However, Obama has altogether stopped criticizing her on the stump and has ratcheted up his rhetoric against John McCain.

“I just want everybody to understand, that Senator Clinton and I have had a terrific contest, she has been a formidable candidate, she has been smart and tough and determined and she has worked as hard as she can. And she has run an extraordinary campaign, it has been an extraordinary campaign,” Obama said here today.

“And look, we have real differences on certain issues, but whatever differences exist between myself and Senator Clinton pale in comparison to the differences with the other side.”

Astounding. I can''t think of a politician that draws these kinds of crowds. It''s a grass roots movement that is beginning to sweep the country. I am lucky to have seen him close up before everyone caught on.

To the previous poster...I do hope that you are not serious. As a fellow democrat, I hope that you will weigh seriously the consequences of failing to get behind the Democratic nominee--be it Senator Clinton or Senator Obama...continued war and loss of American lives in Iraq, likely invasion of Iran, deficits from both continuing into the trillions to be passed onto our children and their children, the appointment of supreme court justices that surely will overturn Roe v. Wade as well as permit continued undermining of our constitution and this is only the beginning...Think about continued economic gap as the wealthiest get wealthier, corporate strangleholds on Washington continue to threaten the health and well being of working Americans.

I do not in any way mean to be disrespectful to Clinton supporters but it is time to end this frivolous and petty party infighting. We have an election to win in November. This country cannot survive another 8 years of failed policies.

Some of you people are really out there in the twilight zone. Obama is not the anti-christ and it is not known that Nostrodamus was referring to him. Where does this kind of insanity come from? If you are taught this in fundamentalist churches then I suggest that you switch faiths because some of this stuff is really sounding certifiable.

I agree with Katia. It is time for this to end. Obama is ahead and he will be the nominee. If some of you want another 8 years of failed policies and endless wars then don''t fall behind him. That is what we will have if you do not. We will probably be in a third war with Iran. None of this is sustainable and we are suffering as a nation. And because we are the world''s only superpower the world suffers with us.

75,000 is a HUGE crowd. I don''t think I can ever remember any politician running for office drawing that many people. That is a packed stadium for a Chiefs football game, and that is a lot of people. Amazing.

Want to know why they and all the DNC voted NOT to count such states as MICH that went ahead of NH? Because if you have a very small state first, anyone can run.
If you have MICH and Florida first with 35 million people, only the rich and famous will be able to run. The document Clinton''s 11 people ALL signed LAST year, said "we vote this way so that money cannot buy the election."
The idea is: you can be an unknown person and go to the six small towns in NH and you can be heard, without having to be rich or a famous name. She was taped on National Public Radio saying that she agreed with the ruling not to count MICH specifically, when she was in NH campaigning.
Does that make her a liar, now, when she omits these facts? There are errors of commision and errors of omission. This seems a bit of both, doesnt it? She is forgetting the Bible says, Exodus 20:16 "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour".

Thank you. And, the war on terror is a pretext to take away our rights as citizens. Two remaining candidates would restore habeas corpus, our right to be charged with an actual crime, and see evidence and cross examine witnesses.
Only Ron Paul and Barack Obama. Voters of both parties should choose to restore democracy and say "no thanks", to the Senators who say there is a terrorist under every bed. TAKE BACK our Constitution.

Senator Clinton has beat Obama in the popular vote already. Obama only won Iowa with 38% of the vote. Some of us Iowans wish we could take that vote back, because now we believe Obama is not who we thought he was. Wright, Rezko and ''Sweetie'' had not happened yet. And Michelle Obama had not badmouthed America yet. It is disgusting.

The right wing slime say things like Obama is the anti Christ because they are appealing to people who are looking for an excuse to be misled. For the longest time, they were saying that he is a Muslim. Now that that is obviously not true, they try more slime. Since their readers are into such claims as the end of the world, they are vulnerable.
Be sure to keep up the good work, without targeting the ones who tend to fall for that stuff.
I saw that stuff early in the campaign, people pretending to know what Nostradamus said.
It is all rubbish. No one can say what he meant.
So they pick on their opponent and paint him with slime. They were saying that HRC is a socialist, when she was the leading candidate.
No claim is too low for them. It will take diligence to address these false claims without antagonizing the innocent.

I feel privileged and invigorated after my afternoon at Waterfront Park. I stood 8 feet from Mr. Obama, and my 17-year-old son shook his hand. I am proud that my son took such an interest and convinced me to go. We traveled from just NE of Salem to attend this event and it was worth every minute!

I heard what I had hoped to hear. Emphasis on health care, global warming, ending the war in Iraq, and joining together for a common cause - not politics for the sake of getting elected!

Every morning on my way to work, I pack ten lunches for the homeless veterans who live underneath a bridge on my route. Three of these men have lost limbs and four have tarnished silver stars..their only reward for coming to the call of our country...I lost my husband in the Vietnam conflict and all I have left are two silver stars he was awarded, for bravery beyond the call of duty. He was an African American who was good enough to marry a WASP like me. I for one am really ashamed of my government for letting these brave men who served us so loyally to live in squalor...and I get very angry when so many of you attack Senator Obama because of his racial background...you all should be really really ashamed of yourselves!

Just becasue Obama drew a large crowds this weekend it does not make him any more experianced, only a rally influencer that shouts for things he can never produce. The Democrats do not understand. Clinton supporters will switch sides and vote for McCain.. once she becomes a real ''woman'' and concedes- for at this point it looks like she cannot do MATH. Obama is so unqualified it is just plain scary.

Pitching his message to Oregon''s environmentally-conscious voters, Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming, and develop new technologies at home which could be exported to developing countries.

"We can''t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That''s not leadership. That''s not going to happen," he added. End quote.

Typical liberal, telling the masses they cannot have what America stands for. He also is telling folks that McCain wants to take away our SS. Thats typical Liberal campaign talk. We need to get these fat cats in Washington, to stop feeling our pain an do something about it. Talk is cheap.
When it comes to the Oil situation, McCain is no better.

We the people in order to form a better nation. We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

When did it all go astray?

Make this election an historic 21st Century turning point in our national politics when the American people had their modern day resurgence to tear down the ivory towers of political cronyism and arrogance.

If the people dont win this one, if the people dont make politicians answerable now to us then we the people might not get another chance to really change the course of our prevailing political descent into an abyss of public desolation.

All those in power must play or pay by our rules not some privileged artificial construct of democracy without public accountability or rebuke.

Voters fix your bayonets of virtue and lunge toward a ballot box near you to save our nation from the enemy within.

Vote for them in political battle trenches isolating our nations leaders from their own citizens and putrefying spirit and intent of our countries founding principles.

If required, vote with your best gut instinct not with your party politics.

The question is if we want a man in the White House who will regularly give his ear to the likes of a Reverend Wright, his and Sabeel%u2019s replacement theologies, and pro-terrorist propagandists like Ali Abunimah on a regular basis? In one sense, Obama could be considered the ISM%u2019s Manchurian candidate given his wide connections to ISM activists and campaign movements such as the Wheels of Justice Tour, Joseph Carr a.k.a.
