Clinton Maintains She Holds Popular Vote

(CBS)

From CBS News’ Ryan Corsaro:

JUNCTION CITY, ORE. -- Hillary Clinton continues to say she is ahead of Barack Obama in the popular vote, despite questions over whether or not her campaign's numbers are misleading in making that claim. The Associated Press reported yesterday that the math used to arrive at that conclusion make the assertion "a stretch at best."

Undaunted, Clinton sat down at a kitchen table with families to talk about issues in relating the economy, blaming a large part of the effect Americans are feeling on high oil prices.

While Obama and John McCain have been taking swipes at one another, Clinton went after President Bush for meeting with Saudi Arabian leaders, saying his trip is to “basically have tea with them while people are suffering,” and claiming the Saudis could drop the price of oil with a “flick of the pen.” She said that the behavior of corporations like oil businesses become greedy because of human nature, saying “that’s just the way they are.”

She maintained it was the government’s job to leverage their power, and that it was the responsibility of Washington to build an alternative energy market that loosened the grip of oil companies and influence by foreign countries. “The government has to create the market and once they create the market, it's off to the races,” said Clinton.

At the end of the meeting, one of the women sitting with Clinton, Sandy Mehlbrech, turned to her, saying “Please stay in this race.”

Clinton appeared slightly uncomfortable by Melbrech’s sincerity and desperate tone, and explained she was ahead in the popular vote and would carry on campaigning, having "50,000 more votes, which very exciting, because that’s important.”

Question have risen as to the math which allows the Clinton campaign to say they have the popular vote, which disregards votes for Obama in some caucuses and counts votes by Michigan and Florida voters, whose primaries are not recognized by Democratic National Committee this year due to penalties from changing their primary dates.

Is "popular vote" kind of like "states that matter"?

By Hillary''s tally of the votes that count, she''s ahead.

7 days ago, using an AP report,
Hillary Clinton used RACE(fear)
to impact
the Last & Only Remaining Measure
in the democratic race for the nomination:

THE POPULAR VOTE

:: and to use race
:: to rile whites to the polls
:: in the few remaining states
:: to win the popular vote
:: is just so WHITE

the nomination process sits in a representative system

that is understood, accepted
and agreed to

the delegate count
is the measure, mrs. clinton

as if you didn''t know

Hillary is the most capable person to be President. I am with her all the way. Michigan and Florida votes need to be counted and this whole entire affair needs to finished and done with in a fair manner. Otherwise we will all revolt...whether it be Obama''s camp or Hillarys; no matter. FAIR IS THE NAME OF THE GAME. Go Hillary!

I''t would be UN-Demoratic to not count the votes in Michigan and Florida.

It would be UN-Democratic to not seat their Delegates.

It would be UN-Democratic to not give Hillary Clinton the Delegates proportionate to the votes that she won.

It would be an insult to our intelligence to suggest a 50/50 split or anything less than the delegates Hillary Clinton was given by the vote of the people.

We are well aware that Barack Obama went out of his way to remove his name from the Michigan ballet in an attempt to nullify our votes.

We are well aware that Obama contacted his campaign workers in Michigan and had them urge voters to mark the "none of the above" box on the ballet. He asked them to hold rallys and make radio announcements in an attempt to steal votes from Hillary Clinton.

We are aware that thousands of Hillary Clinton supporters did not even vote in response to being told their vote would not count.

We are well aware that it was Obama himself who denied Michigan and Florida the chance to have a re-vote.

Don''''t make us the Democratic Party that decided the American Flag would go back to having only 48 stars.

To memekiller: What does it mean tally of votes that count? If Hillary and her supporters do any more spinning their won''t be enough Dramamine to stop them from getting the heaves.
The bottom line is that regardless of what Hillary is trying to engineer, Obama is ahead in every concievable category and will win the nomination. This is why he has gotten 30 superdelegates over the past week to her handful as well as the endorsement of the steel workers union and JOHN EDWARDS. The last remaining states (Obama will win at least 4 of the last 6 contests) are not going to change that. The superdelegates will still keep rolling to Obama.
We need Hillary to stop reinventing math so that we can unite as a party and beat McCain. We cannot afford to have more infighting when George Bush and John McCain are taking swipes at our presumptive nominee, that makes for a two front war.
Whether you like it or not Obama will be the nominee and I hope all democrats and independents can agree that he is a much better candidate than 4 more years of the disastrous Bush policies.

I heard some very troubling news today...I read that the GOP have some very damaging material in their "ruin the democrat" play book that they plan to bring out in October. Apparently, they have some sort of video footage of Michelle obama talking in Rev. Wright''s church about "whitey" (meaning the white folks). OMG...if this is true, us Democrats are screwed!! We seriously need to nominate Hillary while we still can. GOP is planning on Swift boating Obama like they did Kerry!!!! HELP

Dem. Party Leaders, Super Delegates and Obama, don''''''''t seem to understand just how much some Democrats don''''''''t like Obama. Well, I can''''''''t speak for everyone, however, but this is how I feel.

I hated 8 years of George Bush. I was nauseous most of the time. Have you ever smelled rotting human flesh? I would rather walk into a sealed tight house in 100 degree heat that had 10 rotting dead bodies stacked up on the other side of the door and set down and eat a tuna fish and mustard sandwich...instead of having Bush in office a day longer. YET! I would rather have Bush in office the rest of my life than to have Obama in the White House for 1 day.

I realize that sounds harsh, but it looks like some of us are going to have to get a little harsh in order to shake our leadership into the reality of the situation and out of DENIAL.

We have to do whatever is needed to be done in order to get these people to take us seriously.

SO LETS DO IT PEOPLE!!!!

Yes I know it''s a challenge to be more obnoxious than the Obama people, but we have to do something!!

I am sticking with Hillary because she is the best choice for our future. The republicans are terrified that she could still win the nomination and they''re trying to eliminate her in the upcoming primaries. They want Obama because they have something really damaging to use but they can''t pull it out before she''s out of the race.

I am so glad that Senator Clinton has remained in the race. Today I saw Barack Obama blunder big time, when he said that he was ''surprised'' by President Bush''s remarks. For heaven''s sake. The GOP has a target on Obama''s chest and they have all kinds of ammunition to use against him, and he is SURPRISED????? Look how easily they got him to go negative!

Heaven help us if Barack Obama wins the nomination because McCain will win.

Pledged Delegates:
Obama: 1,418
Clinton: 1,352

66 out of 2770 pledged.
That is very close and several primaries to go yet.

Obama is a good man and will be a good president. To reply to one comment above: The reason Obama was surprised by Bush''s attack against him (and it was against him. His speech writers gave MSNBC a heads up that it was coming) in a speech before the Israeli Parliament, was this. Since Harry Truman, it has been against the rules to attack any member of American government while on foreign soil. A diplomat would be fired for it. No president has ever done it. It was especially disgusting because at the same time Bush was giving the speech, his Secretary of State was saying that we need to talk to the same people that Bush was falsely accusing Obama of wanting to talk to. Obama has specifically said that he would not negotiate with Hamas which is a terrorist organization. Hillary is a warrior. She doesn''t quit. She can''t win, but you have to admire her strength.

Hillary is the only one who will put the Dems back in office. This whole thing is being orchestrated for Obama to win the nomination so the repubs can tear him apart. They are biting their tongues and biding their time. She is actually trying to do Obama a favor, but he doesn''t see it and won''t realize it until it is too late. His best chance is VP to learn a little more and in four more years, you wouldn''t be able to stop him. But not now and not yet.

truthyness, you are just as DELUSIONAL as the person you support. Obama did none of the *** you allege above. Do some research and find the FACTS, not the spin and lies you have been led to believeby HRC. When HRC realized that she was losing, she had only LIES to fall back on and she not only told WHOPPERS, but she used a lot of indirect avenues to besmirch him as well. Do some research for yourself and find out the truth; don''t believe anything and everything you hear - try to learn for yourself.

" . . Clinton sat down at a kitchen table . . ". Is this the only place left where she can afford to hold her "rallie? Why aren''t her "supporters" supporting her with their hard-earned money? I hope its because they have finally learned that it is really rather stupid to "continue to throw good money after bad".

HRC has started and spread so many lies about Obama that only she can set the record straight. She has a lot of hard work ahead of her with truth telling for a change, so she better come out of the denial she is perpetuating and correct the record!

So what if MSNBC gave the Obama campaign a heads up that they were releasing the story about Bush''s comments in Saudi. Where you on the other end of the phone.....NO! How does anyone know that they didn''t give ALL the candidates a heads up. Moreover, how arrogant for Obama to claim the story was intended to be a slash at him when Carter was clearly just there and guilty of exactly what Bush was alluding to. Just another example of the Obama campaign being opportunistic in trying to skew everything in their direction for their own political advantage.

Everyday in everyway HRC has another plan to win this primary. The popular vote means nothing especially when you consider she coud not follow rules in an attempt to try that tact. Sorry, it just no longer matters what she says - this primary is over and if she can''t accept it today, she will have to accept it this Tuesday. Besides no one is listening anymore!

NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY THE DNC

Action speaks louder than words. I was on another

web site last night and the Hillary supporters were

talking about REGISTERING AS REPUBLICANS AND NOT

COMING BACK TO THE PARTY UNTIL HILLARY GETS THE

NOMINATION.

This way it would be harder for the DNC to just

brush us off by saying we''''ll eventually all rally

around Obama......No Way, Nobama!!

I''''m going tomorrow and register as a Republican. If

you''re not already registered as a Democrat, you can

first register as a Democrat and a day or two later,

register as a Republican. It will show up as a lost

member on the Democratic Membership Roll by the

end of the week.

Sounds like a plan to me!!

I''ve seen enough of this Presidential campaigning to appreciate the intelligence of both Democratic candidates, but I see integrity only in Obama. Hillary is certainly a woman full of energy but short in ethical values and principles. I would not want such a leader for our country. She certainly has proven to us that she was willing to do "whatever it takes" to win this race!
He calls Obama elitist, when he clearly is a unique individual who through his own effort rose from a modest background and through education was able to channel his talents. Besides, he worked helping those who had not had the same opportunities he did.
Through this campaign I''ve seen in him a man of great capability and non-compromising integrity, sincerely focused on finding solutions to our national issues of economy, education and health insurance, while getting us out of the Irak mess and into more diplomatic approaches to international issues.
It seems to me that in voting for Obama we have the chance to make History... and what a change it would be from the last eight years!
