Clinton Reminds Viewers: Journalist Was Once on Her Side

(CBS)
From CBS News' Fernando Suarez:

INDIANAPOLIS -- Hillary Clinton appeared on ABC’s "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" this morning in an interview filled with awkward moments and strange interactions between the two former colleagues (Stephanopoulos worked under President Bill Clinton for 4 years.)

The interview was billed as a “town hall” where Indiana voters would get a chance to ask Clinton questions. Minutes into the interview, Clinton decided to ditch her chair, preferring to stand and address the audience. What ensued was an awkward interaction between Clinton and Stephanopoulos when the ABC host was forced to ask a few questions from his chair while Clinton loomed over him. (In fairness to Stephanopoulos, oftentimes in seated interview settings the journalist and/or the guest have their microphone cord taped to the chair, restricting one's movement.)

Stephanopoulos tried to recover by standing alongside Clinton, but was forced to stand in a strange position as he remained tied to his chair.

After the first commercial break, the two were seated again, but within seconds Clinton decided she had had enough, forcing Stephanopoulos to stand, again.

The interview took another unpleasant turn when Stephanopoulos tried to pin down Clinton over her position on NAFTA, a trade program introduced by her husband during his presidency. Clinton has come out against the plan saying it was not good for American workers. Stephanopoulos said, “The Clinton administration didn’t do enough to address the downside of globalization and therefore failed the workers in Indiana and the workers of the West?"

Clinton clearly took offense to the tone of the question and while answering, decided to take a jab at the host.

"Well I believe, George, in the 1990s we had a booming economy that created nearly 23 million new jobs, more people were lifted out of poverty in any time in our near history. It was an economy that worked for everyone, not just the rich, the wealthy and the well connected, but there were underlying issues that we didn't understan fully. Now, you remember this, because George did work in that '92 campaign - George and I actually were against NAFTA - I'm talking about him in his previous life, before he was an objective journalist,” Clinton said to a visibly annoyed Stephanopoulos.

Some have speculated that Clinton prefers appearing on Stephanopoulos’ show because she can often turn a question around to include him as a former staffer for her husband.

Just four days before the Iowa Caucuses in late December Clinton appeared on "This Week" and implemented a similar strategy. When Stephanopoulos asked Clinton what qualified her to be commander-in-chief when reports indicated that she had never sat in on a national security meeting taking place at the White House Clinton responded, “You know, I can imagine what the stories would have been had I attended a National Security Council meeting. You were there. I think you can vouch for that.”

The remainder of the program consisted of a variety of quesitons on gas prices, foreign poliy and the economy. There were also a group of North Carolina voters being piped in via satelite who were also able to ask questions of Clinton.

Clinton’s interview on "This Week," comes as her opponent Barack Obama appeared on NBC’s "Meet the Press" this morning.

Hillary dodged the question:
%u201CYou know, I can imagine what the stories would have been had I attended a National Security Council meeting..."

Notice how she FAILED TO ANSWER THE QUESTION.

Excuses for being unqualified don''t cut it. UNQUALIFIED IS UNQUALIFIED.

HILLARY IS A FAKE.

HILLARY IS NOT THE ANSWER.

JUST SAY NO TO HILLARY.

What the tarnation have you been smoking???

First she says she and George S were against NAFTA from the beginning. Then she DEFENDS it. Then she says THEY DIDN''T KNOW the effects it would have.

I guess they weren''t watching TV that night when Ross Perot warned about the "GIANT SUCKING SOUND" of jobs leaving the country if NAFTA is approved.

HILLARY IS A BIG, FAT, ARROGANT LIAR. SHE MUST THINK WE''RE STUPID OR SOMETHING TO BELIEVE HER LIES.

There are 67 lies from OBAMA based on what he told us; all guilty as charged in the following website.

http://savagepolitics.com/?page_id=326

OBAMA are running himself into desperation without hope and audacity.

He plans to sit out the campaign with no debate because he is afraid of being asked any of the lies which begins to catch up on him behind the podium.

OBAMA attack Hillary gas tax by a new strategy; SPECULATION. He even speculates the price of oil. Attack based on speculation, HA!

Soon we shall find our OBAMA campaign is based on SPECULATION & DESPERATION; flip flop in audacity and hope at words of euphemism.

Words do matter; specially when it is your words against your words.

67 lies; He must have broken all time record in an election.

When I listen to the stupidity of the Clinton supporters it makes me want to join a radical group just like the Weathermen. Hillary reminds me of the Alien movies--such an evil ***, and she just won''t die! And so many women support her just because she is a woman. Maybe giving you all the vote was a bad idea....Just kidding! Anyway, Hillary is a pandering liar who doesn''t deserve the highest office in the land.

Hillary Says That Regarding Rev. Wright, "We Should Move On"

Today, during a Town Hall meeting presented by "This Week with George Stephanopoulos", an extremely poised and articulate Indianapolis voter, Michelle Skinner, a Republican, posed a beautifully targeted question to Clinton:

"Sen. Clinton, my question is: Do you think the discourse, the controversy going on with Rev. Wright, do you think this is relevant to Obama and his policy? Do you think this has accomplished anything or should we drop it, should we move on?"

Clinton: (trapped): "Well, we should definitely move on."

In this case--let''s take her at her word.

Hillary Clinton is past her sell by date. We need a fresh start and a new beginning. I had lost hope that it would ever happen. Then Barack Obama came along. He has some very interesting proposals and new ideas, he is expressing the desire for change and the pent up frustration that we already feel. He actually strings words together into sentences and articulates our desires like we haven%u2019t seen for years. We haven%u2019t seen this kind of intelligence since John Kennedy. We need a leader that has this kind of vision and can take us forward into the twenty-first century. The old party politicians won%u2019t do.

MORE LIES FROM HILLARY - ANOTHER FORMER CRONY TURNS AGAINST THE CLINTONS.

Journalists might as well make a rubber stamp with this headline. It just keeps happening over and over again.

Nobody is touching that because it could harm both parties -and undermine this election. What they did was illegal, and people associated with Hillary like her managers at the time wil be blamed (by Hillary).

psy-war, Fortunately those Catholics are not running for president. We could hang''em all in a quick trial, put it on pay-per-view, give the cash to the victims...after they shake down the Vatican for as much as possible in a very public, ugly trial that costs them hundreds of millions of dollars.

Hillary still needs to be questioned about her trial. Eventually, all the misspeaking and missremembering catches up to you.

kmb08, if there was nothing to it, there would be no trial.

The media grasps at anything to scrutinize the candidates....and they deserve the scrutiny. I don''t support Obama, and McCain is does little to inspire. My point is that a trial involving a candidate is about to start and it is not reported in the media.

Hillary knows people watch 10 mins of CNN and that soundbites can make or break her. She is a superior campaign and politican for that matter. Again...when will someone at least ASK her about it public?

twotraps..

As far as the fraud trial....I suppose you''re speaking about the P. Paul ordeal?? That is a continuation of the trial Mr. Paul tried to initiate years ago, and it was discredited then, and will be discredited again. The matter has been looked into, and the conclusion was: The Clinton''s did everything legally. This is why it isn''t being reported on. It''s a joke!!

If the Obama supporters would like to do a bit of research, you''ll find that Obama has misled more in his campaign ads. Do you all think he''s a liar as well? If you call Hillary one, how can you not think the same of Obama?

p I can''t believe the Obama supporters think Hillary has run a negative campaign. She has had to tiptoe around issues because his supporters cry racism as often as they can, so the campaign has been softball at best.

p My sister, a staunch Republican, thinks Obama will be the easiest candidate to beat in the fall. She''s read too much about Obama that hasn''t been aired by the media, and she says, it''s all gonna come out in the general, you can be for sure.

to notthequiet....Hillary is going to testify, after the election, in a trial for campaign fraud during her senatorial campaign. Look it up.

Obama''s pastor is nuts for sure and its makes us question the candidates character. I totally agree with the scrutiny, we need to see how these people think!

When a candidate has been ordered to testify in a fraud case....we can question her about it. Its public record...its out there and not one reporter has asked her about it. Not a drop of scrutiny.

Have we lost the plot?

Hillary did well on the show. I knew George would hit her hard because he took such a hit for finally asking Obama some tough questions in the last debate. Sure enough, George would interrupt Hillary as she was formulating her thoughts, but that''s okay...she can take it. There was nothing wrong with Hillary pointing out that she and George were on the same team once, and that he knew she had reservations pertaining to Nafta. David Gergen corroborated her position on this as well. Hillary was telling the complete truth.

p On MTP, Tim Russert avoided asking Obama any tough questions, and normally, Tim will refer to video clips pinning the guest down, but he never showed the video clips of Obama saying he thought George Bush was handling the Iraq war well, he never showed the clips of Obama stating he didn''t know how he would have voted on the Iraq war resolution had he been in the Senate at the time, he never showed clips of Obama saying he supported Kerry''s vote on the war resolution, eventhough, Obama has staked much of his campaign on being "firm" about his Iraq position. It was like a friendly conversation between the two.

What I love about what Hillary is doing here is she''s demonstrating beyond all doubt that George is playing dumb, deliberately passsing along questions he knows from FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE are total lies. He feels more obligation to not appear liberal than he does to inform his viewers.

George was THERE when Hillary opposed NAFTA (as David Gergen, as reliable a commentator there is, attested, attested, having felt some obligation to the truth).

So here''s the question: What is wrong with journalism that George feels absolutely no duty to tell the truth? How have journalists come to feel no guilt about lying to us?
