Clinton Challenges Obama to Debate, Says Let’s Scrap Moderators

(CBS)

From CBS News’ Fernando Suarez:

SOUTH BEND, IND. -- Hillary Clinton challenged Barack Obama to another debate today, and this time she says they should ditch the moderators. “Here’s my proposal,” Clinton said. “I’m offering Senator Obama a chance to debate me one-on-one, no moderators. Just the two of us.”

Ever since Obama took repeated hits at an ABC News debate in Pennsylvania over a week ago, his campaign has been claiming that the moderators unfairly targeted him, possibly costing him votes there. “You know, after the last debate in Philadelphia, Senator Obama’s supporters complained a little bit about the tough question,” Clinton said. “Tough questions in a debate are nothing compared to the tough questions you get asked when you are president.”

Over the last few days, Clinton has challenged Obama to debates in North Carolina, Indiana and Oregon. She said she would like to see an Abraham Lincoln-Frederick Douglas style debate, where the two traveled around Illinois debating one-on-one.

Clinton said the people of Indiana deserve a debate because they have been “wandering in the wilderness of American politics for 40 years,” referring to the last time Indiana had a say in picking a presidential nominee.

Don’t hold your breath, though. Accused of ducking another debate with Clinton, Obama said the two had debated enough. “I'm not ducking,” he told Chris Wallace on Fox News today. “We've had 21 [debates], and so what we've said we're two weeks, two big states we want to make sure we're talking to as many folks possible on the ground, taking questions from voters.”

“No debates between now and Indiana?” Wallace asked.

“We're not going to have debates between now and Indiana,” Obama said.

WASHINGTON - The good news for Hillary Rodham Clinton is that she%u2019s winning a lot of battles. The bad news is that the war is pretty much lost.

Sure, she won Pennsylvania%u2019s April 22 primary by a strong 9 points in the face of being outspent on television ads by Barack Obama 2-to-1. She also won Ohio, Rhode Island, and at least the primary part of the bizarre %u201CTexas two-step%u201D primary-and-caucus combination on March 4.

But today, she is 133 delegates behind Obama, 1,728 to 1,595, according to NBC News. At this point last week, she trailed by 136 delegates.

Since then Clinton has scored a net gain of 10 delegates in Pennsylvania, according to NBC, but has lost a few more superdelegates, so she has made little headway.

Wow and I thought Obama actually worked hard to get those bills pushed through:

I called Kelley last week and he recollected the private conversation as follows:

"He said, ''''Cliff, I''''m gonna make me a U.S. Senator.''''"

"Oh, you are? Who might that be?"

"Barack Obama."

Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.

"I took all the beatings and insults and endured all the racist comments over the years from nasty Republican committee chairmen," State Senator Rickey Hendon, the original sponsor of landmark racial profiling and videotaped confession legislation yanked away by Jones and given to Obama, complained to me at the time. "Barack didn''''t have to endure any of it, yet, in the end, he got all the credit.

"I don''''t consider it bill jacking," Hendon told me. "But no one wants to carry the ball 99 yards all the way to the one-yard line, and then give it to the halfback who gets all the credit and the stats in the record book."

But who will ask Sean Hannity what questions are foremost on Democratic voters minds?

How can we vet the Democratic candidate by passing on Republican lies to see how well they can handle the lies we''ll tell about them in the general election?

You all know that Frederick Douglass never debated Abraham Lincoln right? I''m assuming that no one is really mentioning this because it is such an obvious idiotic mistake . . . it was Stephen Douglass. Seriously . . . I worry about the state of this country. *sigh*
