McCain Calls Clinton and Obama “Out of Touch”

(CBS)

From CBS News’ Andante Higgins:

John McCain hammered Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton today, calling them out of touch. “They don't understand America’s economy and they don’t understand history,” he said. “I will look forward to that debate and I will argue they are out of touch and they don’t understand fundamentals of economics and certainly what’s good for America’s future – and it isn’t through big spending and it certainly isn’t through pork barrel projects, which they have supported with hundreds of millions of dollars.”

On day two of the “It’s Time for Action” tour, McCain visited devastated and prospering businesses during his sweep through Youngstown, Ohio, today. “Here in Youngstown, obviously people are in great difficulty,” he said. “We visited a closed facility. They’ve got a great new owner named Al Johnston who is struggling to get it open…and it’s an example of the casualties that this region has suffered,” McCain explained.

In his town hall meeting at Youngstown State University, McCain delivered some straight talk to voters concerned about steel mill jobs lost in the area. “I can't tell you that those jobs are ever going to come back to this magnificent part of the country but I will tell you that I will commit myself to providing these workers who have lost their job with another chance. A second chance. They need it, they deserve it,” he said.

McCain also told audience members twice that he knew his answers were of little comfort to them when he talked about jobs and the economy. “You’ve seen up close and first hand the tragedies that have affected individual families as a result of the job loss here,” he said.

McCain was also asked by reporters about the lack of African-Americans at his events today. He sounded a bit defensive explaining how he knew he had a lot of work to do for the African-American vote and vowed to continue reaching out. He spoke out on affirmative action today as well. “If you’re talking about assuring equal and fair opportunity for all Americans and making sure that the practices of the US military are emulated, the greatest equal opportunity employer in America, then I am all for it,” he said. “If you are talking about quotas, I am not for it. So all of us are for affirmative action to try to give assistance to those who need it, whether it be African-American or other groups of Americans that need it.”

Mr. 100 Years, worth $100 million, says Clinton and Obama are out of touch.

Did he form this opinion before or after he claimed people who make more than $200,000 a year are middle class?

McCaine is like old Ashcroft who couldn''t beat a dead man. He is the only one in the race and still hasn''t clinched the nomination!

Billary ClinTOON and Barrak Hussien Obama are on the verge of spending $300 million on the presidential race -- to what end? It will be selected in the back of a smoke filled room, and at least one major constituency would be big time pissed, meaning bigger time promisss. That is okay for the top of the ticket.

My concern is with the bottom feeders of political parties you know, councilmen, commissioners, auditors, state representatives, state senators, various boards leadership positions etc. These positions are not glamorous, but they do provide the "farm team" for the big league positions with the statewide or national offices.

Please help me understand, with an economy falling apart more every day, with real limits on what average people can afford to donate to politics, what does this say about the new class of bottom feeders?

From where I am sitting I am seeing only special interest or self funding as the way to get the bottom feeder campaigns moving.

Perhaps the biggest legacy of Mrs. Clinton''s delayed exist from her hopeless position is the creation of the most self centered corrupt bottom feeder class we have seen in decades.

Thanks Hillary -- It is nice to know you care enough to destroy the lower rungs of the system.

82% of the American people want out of Iraq; McCain does not. We are in a recession and possibly going into a depression;McCain admits economics is not his strong suit. Democrats draw people from all walks of life; McCain draws only white upper class. Who is out of touch?

American Workers do not want protection Mr. McSame. They just want a FAIR chance and to be told the TRUTH! We, all of us, were LIED to about these "Free" Trade Agreements. We were PROMISED new better paying jobs, it was a LIE. We were PROMISED a fair shot at competition, that also was a LIE. Out of touch? I''d say Clinton and Obama are in MUCH better touch with this nation right now than you will EVER be. Anyone who can look at the numbers in this election and doubt that is simply drinking to much Geritol! Sieg Heil Bush

27% of the Pa Republican voters showed yesterday they are not happy with McCain as a choice.
How will they vote in the general election...most will never vote for McCain.

"Get to work , the rest of us owe you nothing"

This kind of quote is from those who don''t understand the modern economy. Having "work" in the modern economy for most people its really a perk or government handout or based on a favor from someone, and the "work" pays far more than the job is worth, again based on government subsidy from borrowed money. Suppose you "work" in a Wall Street firm, and "earn" a bonus of $50K for your "work", which consists of taking advantage of government Fed money? Or you "work" in real estate, selling homes to people who can''t buy them but who use government-backed securities to "buy" the houses. That is how it is now, the people who have "work" are generally privileged lazy and spoiled and paid 10 times more than what effort they actually put in.

MCCAIN IS ABSLOUTELY RIGHT; THE DEMOCRATS ARE OUT OF TOUCH- THEY LIVE IN THE PAST- THEY CLAIM TO KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT FOR AMERICANS BUT AMERICANS DON''T KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THEMSELVES, SO THEY BANK OF SOMEONE TELLING THEM, IF A CANDIDATE CAN''T, A SUPERDELAGATE CAN. THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT OWE ANYONE ANYTHING- AND IF YOU BELIEVE IN THAT YOU WILL SUFFER. MCCAIN HAS SOME OF THE RIGHT IDEAS, HE IS NOT PERFECT, BUT CERTAINLY A FAR CRY FROM THE NONSENSE THE DEMOCRATS ARE SPEWING, PROMISING, AND IMAGINING THEY HAVE EXPERAINCE TO DEAL WITH. CLINTON IS THE PAST. OBAMA IS POPULAR BECAUSE OF THIS RACE- NOTHING MORE- IF HE WERE WHITE HE WOULDN''T BE- THINK ABOUT IT- IF HE ATTENDED A CHURCH AS WHITE MAN THAT TAUGHT HATEFUL MESSEGES TO AMERICANS FOR 20 YEARS HE WOULD BE TOTALLY REJECTED.
