Leahy: Clinton Should Drop Out

(AP /APTN)
Sen. Patrick Leahy wants Hillary Rodham Clinton to abandon her White House run, the Associated Press is reporting.

Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont who has endorsed Barack Obama, issued a statement today suggested that Clinton cannot win the delegates necessary to take the nomination.

"Senator Clinton has every right, but not a very good reason, to remain a candidate for as long as she wants to," he said in the statement. "As far as the delegate count and the interests of a Democratic victory in November go, there is not a very good reason for drawing this out. But as I have said before, that is a decision that only she can make."

In an interview with Vermont Public Radio that aired yesterday, the AP notes, Leahy said Clinton should withdraw and back Obama.

I totally agree that Hillary should drop out of the race. The people have spoken and they want Obama. This young man really does not have any skeltons in his closet. The only thing they have tied to him is what someone else said or did. I honestly believe he loves people and as the concerns of this country at heart.

It''s Hillary and Barack Obama''s race, not Leahy''s, Pelosi''s, Howard Dean''s or anyone else. I would not vote for either of them, however, since both are staunch socialists and would do a great disservice to this country. But it''s not Leahy''s, Pelosi''s or Dean''s decision to make.

I think she should drop out rather then take it into the convention. I think the Democrats are still going to wipe the floor with McCain in November anyway, but it would show proper party loyalty to drop out and after the election become the Senate Majority Leader.

Ye old sooth sayer of political posturing says both Obama and Clinton can call it quits. Why? Because over half of either candidate''s supporters will be voting for McCain if one or the other is nominated. It is way too late for professional politians and pundit to assume that the convention is going to cause the voters to kiss and make up. The Sexism, Ageism, Racism, and Anti-Semetic hate mongering runs too deep for any atmosphere of compromise.

It would be remarkably ingenious and sad if somehow these two candidadtes were pitted against each other to neutralize the potency of the Democratic vote. Nevertheless it is what it is.

McCain, our next president, will set the priorities as follows; War, Economy, Health Care, and the most important priority, Environment, will be ignored for four more years. Our trade position will continue grow worce. The dollar will continue to shrink in value. And the Treasury will continue to print more money, until the President once again raises the Debt Limit.

So buckle up and be patient, because we will need to endure four more years before we shoot ourselves in the foot again.

Have a nice day.

Is this campaign like a %u201CBox of Chocolates?%u201D

Quentin Tarantino''s Pulp Fiction movie is Hilary Clinton; Robert Zemeckis%u2019s Forest Gump is Barack Obama.

Any other year other than 1994 Pulp Fiction is the Academy%u2019s Best Picture award winner. Then came Forest Gump, a breathtaking balancing act between comedy and sadness, in a story rich in big laughs and quiet truths....what a magical movie.

Barack Obama has more talent, integrity and character and is by far more qualified to be President of the United States than Hilary Clinton.

Total speculation on my part, but I believe Hillary really pissed off the top Democrats with the numerous actions of her and Bill getting into bed with the Republicans over the last few days.

Her actions are viewed as greatly harming the Democratic party, and now some are speaking out against it.

Yes, drop out Hillary, so the GOP machine will show who the dems really picked... enough of comparing Obama to the saintly Forrest Gump, he does not come close, he is a politician, and he has looked you in the eye and lied to you as well as the rest of them... learn more about the man so you can refrain from fainting the next time he speaks... You will be allowed to blush, however.

Clinton supporters are still in the dark but Hillary herself knows she can''t win.

Why won''t she drop out? Consider this.

Both Clintons have been made party to a civil suit brought in California by one of their largest fundraisers. Peter Paul charges Bill Clinton with enticing him into sponsering a fundraiser for Hillary''s 1st Senate campaign at his Beverly Hills Mansion in exchange for Bubba promoting Paul''s business. He claims that Clinton reneged after he had hosted the fundraiser.

Under California law, politicians seeking election are exempt from lawsuits brought while they are running for office. An Appeals Court Judge has exempted Hillary from the suit. Part of the evidence against her was a videotape which purports to show her violating federal campaign finance laws. Since she''s no longer a party to the suit(which is expected to begin in October)under the Judge''s ruling the tape is excluded from trial.

The Judge''s decsion is being appealed. It would not help Hillary''s case for her to become a non-candidate prior to the case working through the appeals process.

If she drops out she becomes a defendant once again.

leahy aint never lied. Hillary is staying in under some ugly motives. she is assuming america is a white racist nation that will reject Obama and come begging for her to run. and that is ugly. she is basically saying this country is racist and will never vote for a black man versus a white women. she is in it based on racial ugliness. not her committment to America. She think it is owed to her, she think she is entitled. which is a slap in the face of real hard working whites who do not want to say affirmative action is the way they came up.

Typical Obama/Obama supporter supposition - "The people have spoken". I guess the people of Pennsylvania and the other 9 states that have yet to hold primaries are not part of the group that Obama consider "the people" and, of course, the millions of people in Florida and Michigan are not considered to be part of "the people". Hillary should stay in and let ALL THE PEOPLE HAVE A SAY. After all this is the DEMOCRATIC Party.

Mr. Leahy, you must understand that Hillary/Bill are intent on inflicting as much damage as they are able on Obama. They are fully aware that she cannot win this round, and are looking forward to 2012. There is no sensible reason for her to carry on other than this. But they would not listen to any voice of reason and are intent on their path of destruction in search of personal ambition. You and other party leaders must do more to see to it that this couple cannot destroy our party. If you support them, you are a patriot, but if you support Obama, you are a traitor. How did the party embrace such warped characters? Other leaders should and must come out now in order to save the party and the elections.

Again, what Leahy said was there is no way Clinton can win enough delegates to get the nomination. That is in fact, true. So there is no real point in her continuing to stay in the race. For the sake of her party she should withdraw. How''s your reading comprehension there sparky?

Singingrick,

On top of your point, not only was Hillary the ONLY Democrat on the ballot in Michigan, Florida was one of only three states to have more voters in the Republican Primary than in the Democrat.

This means that Democrats who took seriously the declaration that their primary would not count and chose instead to vote in the Republican primary, would be disenfranchised by either counting the vote or re-voting.

Every re-vote plan to date includes ONLY those who voted in the Democrat primary the first time around.

Not that Hillary actually cares about that......

HILLARY, YOU SHOULD NEVER QUIT
Howard Dean and Patrick Leahy should shut up. These guys have their own agenda. Both of these guys are Obama supporters. If they have any respect for democracy, they should not try to disfranchise the people of Florida and Michigan %u2013the states Hillary won- by colluding with Obama. Let the people vote. This is democracy not dictatorship. They should not be allowed to silence the voices of the people in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Indiana, Guam, Puerto Rico, Kentucky, Montana, Oregon, and South Dakota. Also they should try to seat the delegates from Florida and Michigan instead of taking sides in this historic election. By disfranchising the people of Florida and Michigan they are trying to steal the election from Hillary. Hillary, you should never quit. If you quit, we will vote for McCain.

Why be surprised, he joins his brethen such as the most recent Casey. These brethen, including media, have banded against Hillary. There must be more than what we see on the surface. The party has belonged to others; now it seems there is the attempt to get it back for themselves. Best for this party to split, with one becoming a third party. Both start on equal footing since the party will split right down the middle.

OBAMA SHOULD QUIT
Obama could not win any of the big states that really count in the general election. Majority of the states he won, are GOP states. In the general election they go to republicans anyway. Hillary has won majority of the primaries, where millions of people vote. Obama has won more causes where is much less representation. Florida and Michigan %u2013the states Hillary won- combines for more people than all the caucuses combined (that Obama has won). So who really has a chance in November? Common sense tells, it is Hillary and not Obama. So, Obama should quit and support Hillary and try to seat the delegates from Florida and Michigan

Patrick Leahy should shut his mouth and tend to Vermont. Hillary Clinton won my state of Tennessee and WE WNAT HER TO CONTINUE her campaign. She has won the last 4 states and these folks know good and well she is polling way ahead in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky. Senator Evan Bayh who is Clinton''s closest ally campaigned with her in his home state of Indiana where she will have a good chance of winning as well. Also you CHEAPOS at the DNC ripped off the voters of Michigan and Florida. States should have every right to hold primaries when they want to, I wouldn''t want one state telling Tennesseans when we can and cannot vote LET DEMOCRACY WORK. Eddie in Nashville Tennessee

WSJ & CNN Double Team: I can%u2019t believe the CNN bias towards Obama. It is really interesting that both WSJ and CNN are taking shots at Hillary. CNN wants the liberal candidate - Obama, WSJ obviously has become a mouthpiece for the republicans since it was purchased by Murdoch. What this country really needs is a true crossover candidate. They both want her down because she is THAT candidate. All the calls for Hillary to step down need to be directed at Obama. He is the one with no experience and based on seniority he is the one who needs to quit if he can%u2019t win the big states. Obama is a dangerous egomaniac and all he is doing is splitting the party by not seating Florida and Michigan. Obama wants to win at all costs. It is plainly obvious. If America wants a black candidate, it needs one who is not brought up with and does not embrace the Black Power movement which targets the extinction of the white race. Obama is not that candidate.

If you are counting Texas in the "last four states" that is a misstatment. Obama will end up with Texas tomorrow when they add the caucus votes. These exaggerations and misstatments are hurting Hillary''s campaign. The Ireland thing, the Bosnia thing, and claiming she won Texas when she in fact will lose it.

HILLARY CLINTON %u2026 READY TO DESTROY DEMOCRATS CHANCES OF WINNING

Hillary trails Obama by every measure, and it''s obvious to everyone that she has virtually no hope of winning the nomination.

Yet the former first lady trudges on in some phantom contest oblivious to the sea of doubt around her.

She is completely unwilling to accept the cruel truth that she has been rejected by her own party.
She was first lady, for cryin'' out loud! She is the queen of this party!
No one she trusts has the courage to tell her she''s done, much less force her into the car to take her home.

So on we march, scandal after scandal, contest after contest, hoping with each one that she finally accepts what everyone else began realizing long ago.

And the certainty with which she recalled all that sniper fire raining down on her as she ran out after landing in Bosnia 12 years ago convinced others that she''s nearly gone out of her mind.

She has become disassociated from reality leading many to believe she''s staying in the race only to damage Obama so badly that he can''t win in November, thus leaving the Democratic ticket open for her to run again in 2012.

Like Bush, Obama and the ole boys network of the Democratic party want to stop the election before it''s over--Obama is the UNDEMOCRAT. If they ever let all the votes be counted, including in Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Puerto Rico, North Carolina, etc. Hillary will be ahead in the popular vote.

To Obama fans-Please fasten your seatbelts, you are all in for a long ride. Wait until Apri 22, time will tell, or is it because something negative is about to come out on Obama again. Come on people please stop making a fool out of Obama, you know you really don''t want Obama as your next president. I think Clinton should stay in for a number of reason. She doesn''t give up and she is a fighter...which proves she is strong and tough...good qualities...when the path gets tough -- she doesn''t throw in the towel. Its still a tight race and there is no way Obama will win the 2024 delegates before the convention. Plus there is enough scandal info floating around about Obama (Rezko, Larry Sinclair, Rev. Wright, ect...) that will essentially result in McCain winning the general election. All the politicians should stay neutral and let the voters have their say. This is the most exciting election season in a long time.

I%u2019m a strong Obama supporter, but I believe at this point, it would be the worst thing possible for him if Clinton withdrew from the race. With the race as close as it%u2019s been, I think he needs the legitimacy of beating her fair and square on delegates (including the supers). I think her supporters will be more likely to support him in the fall if they feel their candidate got a fair shot, and lost fair and square.

I%u2019m not worried about this hurting Obama or helping McCain. He has to fight until November anyway, so why not fight against Clinton right now? We%u2019ll have plenty of time in August, September, October and November for the general election fight.

An affirmative action senator wanted an affirmative action president.

From a state that has only 130,000 voted in the primary, you are 1/20 smaller than that of Texas 1/60 of California. You could not even represent a county.

Our city mayor who manages twice as many as your whole state''s population has a much higher quality and better judgement than you was far far away from becoming a state senator. So please don''t take it as granted for your senator position. Respect it or just shut up and go home.

After PA. votes maybe some others in positions of influence will also weigh in and make their feelings known. When there are tough decisions to make, it takes tough people to make them. Let''s wrap things up after she loses in PA. and unite the party. Drawing this out any longer will only damage our party further.
