Romney To Huckabee: "No Whining"

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

ATLANTA -- Mitt Romney fired back against Mike Huckabee over the former Arkansas governor’s accusation that Mitt Romney has engaged in “voter suppression” in arguing that a vote for Huckabee is a vote for John McCain.

“I don't think he's chosen the right word,” Romney said at a press conference after speaking to hundreds of enthusiastic supporters at a rally here. “It's not voter suppression. I want people to vote, but I want them to vote for me. That's sort of the nature of politics, as I understand it.”

In recent days, Romney has avoided responding to Huckabee’s barrage of attacks, as the former Massachusetts governor seeks to portray the nomination fight as a two-man race between himself and McCain. But in his remarks this afternoon, Romney hit back hard.

“First a couple of rules in politics,” he said. “One: no whining. And number two: you get them to vote for you and so I want them not to vote for Mike Huckabee and not to vote for John McCain and to vote for me … that’s not voter suppression. That’s known as politics.”

Romney was flanked by former Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Penn. — a prominent conservative advocate who endorsed Romney last week. Santorum stepped to the microphone to make his own case about why Romney is the only choice for voters who want a conservative candidate as the Republican nominee.

“The reason I got in this race is I wanted to make sure a conservative got elected,” Santorum said. “I’ve been saying for a year that it isn’t John McCain. I think more and more people are coming to that conclusion — that it’s not John McCain. The alternative — the only alternative — to stop the McCain ‘Twisted Talk Express’ is Mitt Romney.”

No, Mitt Romney, it is called "Dirty Politics" and you''re good at it... so was Bill Clinton. You are not a man of integrity. You are full of personal ambition, but not what is best for America. If Americans lose their spirit of "can do" we lose who we are.

Conservatives support Mitt Romney. Huckabee want''s to be McCain''s VP... how conservative is that? McCain is running on the promise to once again "reach across the isle". Wow, what a surprise! Do Republicans really want someone who will cave in to Democrats and abandon conservatives for the nth time? That''s John McCain all over. Just ask his preferred running mate... John Kerry.

Mitt Romney is the only conservative choice.

Mitt Romney once again proves that he understands politics.

Huckabee is a diminishing speed bump on the road to victory. ABC shows him down to single digits nationally, with Romney now within 3% of McCain!

McCain graduated 6th from the BOTTOM of his Naval Academy class.

Romney graduated valedictorian from BYU, *** laude from Harvard law school, and in the top 5% at the Harvard Business School.

Yet the average citizen has trouble figuring out who is best for America so they let the press and the polls do their thinking for them.

I am not Mormon but thought this was intersting. If Huckabee had won SC, where he came in 2nd by 3%, You all would be singing a different tune. And Romney and his supporters would not let Romney Give up....WELL I am here to tell you Huckabee supporters and Huckabee are NOT GIVING UP either! If Romeny was my only choice I still would not vote for him...So you can''t say I am taking a vote away from him by voting for Huckabee. And I am VERY sure many Huckabians feel the same! Romney is underhanded and devious. His callers make people think that the race is down to two people...What a Liar. He is affiliated with Bain Capitol and is buying American Votes...I give mine freely to Huckabee and will not be swayed by media bias.

I don''t understand why people hate Mitt for making money...Isn''t that why we work? McCain married into money at the expense of his previous wife who was suffering from a car accident. Is that how someone should gain wealth?

Integrity: please research the definition before you accuse Mitt Romney of not having integrity.
I do not think supporting the distribution of anti-Mormon literature in Iowa should be mistaken as Integrity.
I am voting for a President that is a proven leader;I am not interested in electing a liberal career politician or a preacher for President of the United States.
Conservatives, please wake up and do your own research; the liberal media wants you to vote for the weakest link so that the democrats have no contest come November. Please do not follow in ignorance...

McCain is a fortunate son - he crashed several naval aircraft before Vietnam, but because he was the son of an admiral, it was all overlooked. If he was not born into that position, then he%u2019d have been in the trenches with you.
Military service is a volunteer service, so discounting a person because they chose not to serve does not make them any-less of a person. Although leaving your sick wife to have an affair with another woman should.
The political process is also a way to serve the country (think about Iraq where they kill themselves %u2013 how%u2019s that doing for the country?); paying taxes is also a way to serve the country; helping the homeless is also a way to serve. The point is you don''t need to be in the military to serve your country, so get off your high horse drill sergeant.

Romney is a loser. He is unable to win support on his own so he tries dirty tricks in order to suppress other candidates voters. He will do anything to win. There is a video on Youtube of phone calls received by people which shows a message left by Romney himself. The message clearly states that "Now that the Republican nomination is down to 2 candidates.....". Now you can say what you like about the viability of the other candidates but to state that there are only 2 candidates running, IS A BOLD FACE LIE!!! You could argue that most people know that there are 4 candidates still running but I would argue that a big portion of the population does not keep up with it enough to know any better. If my aunt was to receive that message, she would think it was true. This is a dirty trick any way you slice it.

Visited with a cousin from Arkansas last weekend because I wanted to get the opinon from someone who had lived in Arkansas during Mike Huckabee''s governership. Well, his response was..."If I close my eyes and listen to what Mike Huckabee has to say, it''s only his voice that is familiar--not his record." Hmmm.... Truthful? Conservative? Smaller taxes and less government?
Guess his first job of working with a televangelist gave him the skills to "convince" us that it should be his way or the highway. Think I will take the highway and support Mitt Romney.

Why doesn''t Mike Huckabee, who claims to be the "real conservative" spend as much time questioning McCain''s record as he does Mitt Romney''s. Has there been a back room deal reached that we won''t be privy to until after McCain gets the nomination? How many of us will be truly surprised to see Mr. Huckabee given a position in the McCain presidency? Too bad---if it is a McCain candidacy---it will be a Democratic president next time!!! Poor Mike---he''s backing the wrong horse!

We waved signs outside of the superbowl yesterday in Avondale for Huckabee. The only people waving signs were Huckabee and Ron Paul supports.

Those are the only 2 candidates loved by the people. Everyone else votes because of the flood of money the others spent on advertising.

Huckabee is the underdog but still polling even with Romney, and at this point being out-spent at one could guess is 100 to 1.

Is it not obvious that people who actually follow the race pick Huckabee?

This is about delegates, get out there and vote for this awesome man running for President.

Vote for Huckabee!

Personally, I am getting quite sick of Huckabee''s smart quips all the time. He reminds me of a joker. Whenever serious questions are asked, he comes back with some quip. They''re really getting tiring. Maybe Huck the Hick should stick to playing bass guitar and being a comedian.

Honestly, I believe that McCain (the master of making deals) has already made a deal with Huckabee that if Huck the Hick stays in the race and takes votes from Romney, Huck the Hick can be McCain''s VP. I think the deal was done a week or 2 ago.

Did you all see Tammy Bruce on Fox News about 10:30am est today 2/4? WOW. She called McCain HILLARY IN DRAG, and said she would vote for Hillary over McCain because if we''re going to run the country into a brick wall at 80mph, she''d rather have a liberal do it than a fake conservative. Also, that MCCAIN is the one who should withdraw from the race, and leave the 2 more conservative ones to vie for the nomination. I hope someone posts that clip on youtube so I can re-listen to it. Mitt Romney continues to outshine the other candidates in class, in intelligence, in integrity, and this is for Mike Huckabee, in showing the nation how a real christian conducts himself, without bragging about or politicking his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It would be an honor for Americans to have someone of Mitt Romney''s stature grace the White House. What more could the country possible want in a leader? Vote Mitt Romney for President if you want to see something actually happen to make things better in this country.

Undergraduate - Valedictorian
Harvard Law School - CumLaude
Harvard Business School - Top 5%
Bain Capital - Earned $250 M plus
2002 Olympics - $300M deficit to $100M profit

That is the profile of a winner.

pat and cami, your post is the typical example of someone who doesn''t have a clue what dirty politics is. Mitt has run ads that contrast his record and positions with his competitor''s positions. This is NOT NEGATIVITY. But McCain making some snide remark in the debates continuously and then saying "my friend" like he''s in love with the guy, is so phoney and below the belt, how can ANYONE TRUST MCCAIN? That demonstrates mean-spiritedness, not Romney bringing out the differences in positions. Get an education. Besides, I think it''s interesting that you call Romney mean-spirited and then in your next paragraph you praise others for NAILING HIM TO THE WALL. Yeah, that''s kind of like MCcain sticking the knife in, twisting it, while saying "my friend." Whew, I''m glad I don''t know either your or McCain. Maybe you should see if you can be his VP. I have to say all the political infighting has given us voters much to talk about as of late. These primary races have been the most exciting I''ve seen in years. So much so that I''ve designed 3 shirts for the supporters from each camp...

Its real simple.

The PEOPLE get to decide who gets elected.

The political pundits, talking heads, and the Republican Establishment do NOT like this arrangement.

They want to tell us who we need to vote for... even if they use half-truths, innuendos, and at times outright falsehoods.

Mitt Romney has NEVER seen a policy or a position that he would not change for a vote. And if that didn''t work he''ll try to buy it.

His Clintonian attacks on his opponents in this election cycle that have been nothing short of lies have convinced virtually ALL McCain and Huckabee supporters that he CANNOT be trusted with the keys to the White House.

Mike Huckabee has not had the privilege of loaning his campaign MILLIONS (about 35,000,000) to be used in attacking and maligning and falsley defining his opponnents the way Mitt Romney has done.

We can thank McCain for the campaign finance reform that only allows me to donate $2300, but Mitt Romney to donate MILLIONS.

And yet... there is Huckabee... not because of Evangelicals, they are voting equally between the 3, but because of the PEOPLE...

Huckabee hits where the PEOPLE are.

If he had the money to define himself instead of Mitt Romney''s MILLIONS defining him falsely...

Romney would be in the % range of Ron Paul.

A vote for Romney... is a vote for Hillary Clinton.

John McCain is a vote for the following:

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: he wrote the bill granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy).

SOCIAL SECURITY: he voted to give your social security money to illegal immigrants.
TAXES: he voted against the Bush tax cuts multiple times (he has since flip-flopped and has campaigned as a lifelong tax-cutter).

RHETORIC: he routinely engages in Democratic class warfare against big companies in America, particularly the %u201Cevil%u201D drug companies who research cures to debilitating diseases for a profit.

ECONOMY: as recently as December 2007 he admitted %u201Che does not know the economy very well%u201D and needed to get better at it.

1ST AMENDMENT: he wrote the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that was declared to be an unconstitutional infringement of the 1st Amendment (co-sponsored by ultra-liberal Democrat Russ Feingold).

GLOBAL WARMING: supports radical global warming legislation which involved him voting with every Democrat; think only America is responsible to take action, not other superpowers.

JUDGES: he joined forces with Democrats (Gang of 14) to block the Senate Republican%u2019s attempt to confirm conservative, strict constructionist judges; also said Alito was too conservative for his liking.

WAR ON TERROR: fought with Hillary Clinton to demand that terrorists be given a full AMERICAN trial.
It%u2019s NOT too late to STOP MCCAIN!

VOTE MITT ROMNEY TUESDAY!

Re Huckabee: One''s denominational alliance has never been a guarantee of an individual''s character, experience, honesty, track record, intelligence and stature. So, I was extremely disappointed to read the many Southern Baptist and general media articles describing the bitter "Baptist Wars" between Huckabee with his liberal agendas and friends, versus the conservative evangelical Baptists, over serious issues.

I was even more surprised to see the documentation of 14 reprimands
for ethics violations, resulting so far in 5 convictions.

Finally, as I read numerous news accounts of his tax and spend, and soft positions toward criminals and illegals in Arkansas, I sadly began to look for another to support. Not someone perfect, but someone real.

While denomination or doctrine is not all important, true Christian principles are. Unfortunately, past presidents have proven that their capabilities and honor was not always in line with their public church-going.

Not so with Romney. M assessment of Romney over the other candidates is, unequivocally, that he is by far the most capable and honorable man to take us beyond the well-publicized disgracing of our highest office in the past 16 years

Al Qaeda has said they intend to DESTROY US ECONOMICALLY. Now does it make any sense to elect a president who DOESN''T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT ECONOMICS? (McCain, Huckabee, Hillary, and Obama). During the debates, McCain could add NOTHING on the economic situation for the future, only talk about what was done in the past and whether he agreed or disagreed. It was pathetic. We are in HORRIBLE economic shape, and being on the front lines with my own small business I can tell you each time we took another dip economically. Most of it is caused by gas prices by the way, and it was like clockwork how my business dropped each time oil prices jumped up. I warned everyone this Christmas would be bleak and I was again, right. We better get somebody in there who knows what to do economically because if we don''t, AL QAEDA won''t have to destroy us economically, WE''LL DO IT ALL BY OURSELVES! Mitt is not perfect, nor the most perfect conservative, by BY FAR the BEST WE HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM for this time in our time in history. VOTE MITT if you know what''s good for you.

VOTE FOR MITT ROMNEY...he''s our only hope.

The Socialist/liberal/Democrat media is trying to hijack the Republican Party by pumping their favorite candidate (and our worst nightmare) RINO McCain. It''s a win win for the Liberal Socialists who are in the process of hijacking the Republican Party AND the country.

Here%u2019s a link to an article that really exposes John McCain for who he is:
http://www.alipac.us/article2920.html

Put some links in your emails to this ad from Citizen''s United: http://media.citizensunited.org/Surprisingly.htm. It''s a killer for McCain.

There is still time to give Romney enough of a push to keep the race competitive after Tuesday. The power of the internet is incredible. Please make use of it! Email ANY and EVERYONE you know who will be voting on Tuesday and let them know just how disastrous it would be to vote for McCain. Educate them as to why and turn them on to Mitt Romney.

I''ve met him on several occasions and was at the MA Rep. convention when we nominated him for Governor there. Tell them to get on the Romney bandwagon and help the guy out at: http://www.mittromney.com.

Besides emails, you can make phone calls AND write/submit letters to editors online and at major metropolitan newspapers http://www.newslink.org/news.html around the country.

HELP STOP RINO JOHN MCCAIN AND HIS SECRET PARTNER, HUCKABEE!!

GO MITT!

Mitt Romney is NOT A FLIP-FLOPPER, that is just what the media wants you to believe, because the liberal media also wants McCain, he''s almost as liberal as Hillary. Mitt has changed a couple of his positions which were wrong at the time. Now that sounds one hell of a lot better than STICKING TO A WRONG POSITION AND BEING HARDHEADED ABOUT IT (like McCain does). He even wants AMNESTY still, although he says now that he will build the fence first. Yeah, right. I don''t believe or trust one thing McCain says. McCain is a nasty, hot-headed malicious vindictive person whose campaign execs approached the Kerry campaign execs and offered to be his VP, asking if Kerry was interested. McCain was mad and wanted to turn democrat just 4 years ago! Do we really want a guy who is liberal enough and wanted to join the democratic party just a short time ago? I think not! VOTE ROMNEY

By the way to the comment that states Mitt Romney is a better Christian.

Mitt Romney is a Mormon. Not a Christian. The Jesus Christ who Mormons claim, is not the same historical and Scriprtural Jesus Christ. Read the writings of Joseph Smith and the apostles of Mormonism. Lucifer and Jesus are both the "sprit children" of Heavenly Father. They were spiritual brothers. Heavenly Father?... an ascended MAN who attained godhood.

Now this DOES NOT disqualifiy him from being president. He might could claim to even be the most "religious" person in the race maybe.

But he cannot claim to be a better "Christian" anymore than the Dali Lama can claim to be a good "Christian".

Good man? Good father? Good husband? Good business man? Good Mormon?

Sure! And there is nothing in there that disqualifies him from being president.

But rather than mislead people about the true teachings of Mormonism, he should just be proud and say..."Sure... we believe this and that... this is my faith... and I have a right to believe this way."

There should be NO religious test for office.... period. Not for a Morman, Evangelical, Catholic, or Athiest.

But there should be an HONESTY test!!

That is where Mitt Romney fails. Not because of his religion. He does not see anything wrong with being deceptive about his opponents. He sees this as "the way you run for office".

THIS is what is WRONG with politics and Government if he is correct.

In every poll that is out, add Romney numbers with Huckabee''s and get a real view of where Romney should be in comparison with McCain. In the AOL straw poll that is refreshed after each debate or change in the playing field, Romney is leading or nearing the lead in state primaries that he did not win. Huckabee is a spoiler with a "Man Crush" as Political strategist Mary Matlin put it on John McCain. Come on America open your eyes and see that Romney has had a steady climb as people get to truly know who he is and not what the media or sensationalism portrays.

I implore Christians to decide not based on economics or security. God is not worried about our economy, He gives the ability to make wealth, He can send flood or famine, He can bring prosperity. God is not worried about our security. He is our shield, He is our refuge, He is our strength. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord!

God is concerned about our morals as a nation. We''ve turned our back on everything that is right and holy and just and we still expect God''s blessing in way of economy and security. Everyone is offering false hope. Let us get American on track so that we have self dignity and respect for life and put ourselves back in a position where God is willing to bless us.

The only man I see that has the vision and the heart to go the distance to do so is Mike Huckabee.

Those of you who want to make something out of allegations from Gov. Huckabees past are willing to accept Mitt Romney''s recent conversion on many issues? So, let me get this straight... Mikes record matters but Mitt gets a free pass? I want the man who has been consistent and is trustworthy. Mike Huckabee speaks from the heart because he has one of integrity. Mitt Romney has to be coached in a debate to sure he says what is politically profitable, because it is only about profit. He''s willing to go against the teaching of his own church if it will make him a dollar or get him into office.

gumbystretch, the reason Santorum lost by 18 points is because of a media campaign to destroy him. One more conservative trashed by the liberal media, and you morons just fell for the whole stinking program. Turn your brains on, unless they''re already too liquified to work anymore.

Mitt Romney may be a Mormon, he may have changed position..... Reagan was once a democrat, big deal... people change. We all used to poo in diapers and eat cheerios off the floor, but we change. To be stubbornly wrong is idiotic. To bind yourself to a position for the sake of constancy makes no sense unless you had it right the first time. Just like all you folks that claim that Mitt is worshipping some false Christ. The "true" christ that you claim is the foundation of Christianity was forged through centuries of debate known as the Nicean councils. Mitt''s Christ was described in those debates. They went with the latter. Maybe they got it wrong. When you get it wrong, do you have the courage to change direction? Think about it
