Romney Wouldn’t Accept VP Slot ... Not That McCain’s Offering

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

SANFORD, FLA. -- As he continues his unrelenting focus on the economy a day before the critical Florida primary, Mitt Romney said that he’s not interested in being John McCain’s running mate.

“He’s a hero, but his views on the economy I think are sort of summed up by his own statement that it’s not really something he understands that well,” Romney said of McCain at an airport rally attended by over 200 people.

“He’s said that a couple times and indicated that when he chose his vice president, it would have to be someone who really understood the economy. Well, I do understand the economy — I’m not going to be any vice president to John McCain either.”

There seems to be no love lost between Romney and McCain — whose attacks on one another have become increasingly vitriolic and sometimes personal.

The importance of tomorrow’s primary to Romney’s campaign cannot be overstated, and the former Massachusetts governor is jetting across Florida with six events planned for the day. As the race remains too close to call, Romney is banking his hopes here on polling data that shows the economy is the most important issue to voters.

“Are we gonna have a president who understands the economy right down to the center of his core, it’s in his DNA like me, or not?” Romney said as the crowd cheered.

“Are we going to get the job done and are we going to win the primary tomorrow?”

The partisan audience here sure sounded confident.

It''s time for Romney to drop out of this race and endorse the most consistent conservative remaining... Huckabee.

Romney is being propped up in the media, but a serious analysis of the electoral votes shows he has NO chance of winning the nomination at this point. He won''t play strong enough in the South, and McCain pretty much has much of the West coast wrapped up.

If Romney would get behind Huckabee, who is more consistently conservative than he, we could have a chance to stop McCain AND get a conservative we could be proud of, who truly represents the PEOPLE instead of the entrenched powers, into the White House.

What would Romney think of being Huckabee''s VP.

After all, in 2005 Romney said Huckabee would make a "great President."

The Bottom Line is "Economy." That''''s the core issue. Our Economy is falling and we need a president who knows how to fix it. Mitt Romney is well qualified to be in that position. That fact is--Sen. McCain said that we are expecting more wars to come. If that''s the case--how is our strugling economy would respond to support another war? I suggest we need to be realistic here.

dvilt--that is a perfect assessment:) Mitt Romney is great to be the next Commander in chief for the United States of America. Besides Chuck Norris said that John McCain would be to old to be president. Indeed, Sen. McCain is an honorable man, but he''s been in Washington for too long. :) His liberal ideas cannot bring any "hope" to better our falling economy and the needs of the American people. Vote for Mitt Romney--He has the most genuine conservative agenda: to strengthen our military, to strengthen our economy, and to strengthen our family.

Agreed, John McCain does very well on defense issues. Therefore, he would make a great Secretary of Defense or National Security Advisor under President Romney. Rudy Giuliani would make a fine Attorney General.

Do your homework, NBC has already made a statement that clearly notes that Romney didn''t cheat, "After reviewing the tapes, NBC determined that an open mic picked up a whisper from the audience. It is unclear who it is that says it, but it was not said by any of the candidates, was not heard in the hall and, more importantly, not heard by the candidates."

Not only does Mitt not cheat in debates, he doesn''t cheat on his wife.

He is obviously the most competent individual for President. Go compare the coverage between him and McCain and it will become clear that McCain is the darling of the liberal media as a backup to their hopes for Clinton.

Mitt Romney is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work for the American people.

Mike Huckabee is as American as you can get. Governor Huckabee has always stood up for what is right.

Mike Huckabee is an Ambassador of the American spirit. You are doing great Mike! Number 2 Nationwide in polls and 2nd most amount of delegates so far. The media may try to avoid stating those facts, but your people know them. We are growing in numbers daily. keep up the momentum!

Aaron Tippin song:

"He''d say you''ve got to stand for something or you''ll fall for anything
You''ve got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what''s right and uphold your family name
You''ve got to stand for something or you''ll fall for anything"

Mike Huckabee stands up for whats right.
Please vote 4 Governor Huckabee

Romney is right on. The economy IS the most important issue of this campaign (we have been focused on Iraq far too long, overshadowing our domestic issues), and Mitt''s experience overshadows McCain''s on every level.

I''m sorry, but McCain''s experience serving rank and file in the Navy does not qualify him as a leader over CEO of the Olympics Romney or turnabout artist of over 200 companies Romney. McCain graduated near the bottom of his class at West Point, and that is supposed to inspire me to believe he is the best for the job? Here''s a hint: military schools are not that tough--more physically than academically, where they pitch to the lowest common denominator. (Nothing against West Point. I''m a Vet myself.)

Romney could be Dean at Harvard, while McCain blew off his education. Who do you want as President?

This is a rather slanted angle here. Why isn''t the title, "McCain would not consider being Romney''s VP"?

What you suggest here is that McCain is the front runner, and his major opponent (ahead in some polls) ought to take the consolation prize and step aside when there''s still no clear winner here.

Look, I understand you hate the guy -- I''m with you -- but this is how you get accused of playing favorites.

Mitt Romney can not be trusted. He will say anything and pay anything to win. Just look at the debate, Romney cheated. Do you want someone dishonest and deceptive as our president? Don''t believe me? Look at these 3 videos of the Florida debate and tell me Romney did not cheat. There is no denying it.

No one should want Romney as a running mate. Unless your telling America the two of you will do what ROMNEY did for Mass Residents, and ME.
Beware of Mit Romney and his lies, Obama and his hidden life, and inability to work for U.S.A. And Senator Clinton and her unwilling to help us (citizens of THE U.S.A).
