Huckabee Mocks Romney's Chicken Eating Method

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

PENSACOLA, FLA -- A reporter asked Mike Huckabee, who famously lost 110 pounds after being diagnosed with diabetes, how he he takes his fried chicken as both a Southerner and health junkie. The question had been inspired by reports that Mitt Romney, in front of his amused media entourage, pulled the skin off his Kentucky Fried Chicken before eating yesterday.

"Going through the weight loss program I try to eat it more broiled and baked," Huckabee said. "But I can tell you this: any Southerner knows that if you're not gonna eat the skin, don't bother with calling it fried chicken."

In jest, Huckabee said, "I'm glad to hear that [Romney] did that because that means I'm going to win Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma -- all these great Southern states that understand that the best part of fried chicken is the skin."

Huckabee compared Romney's skinless fried chicken eating to Gerald Ford eating a tamale with a shuck on it. Recalling hearing about it as a grad school student in 1976, Huckabee said, "That weekend every newscast in Texas led with 'President Ford doesn't know how to eat a tamale."

"He lost Texas," Huckabee continued. "And many believe he lost the presidency, and there are a lot of people who will believe forever that it was the shuck on the tamale -- not Jimmy Carter -- that beat Gerald Ford in 1976. So who knows?"

We as a Nation, deserve a President that is honest and for the people. Like Abe Lincoln was.

It is up to us to choose the person we want for president. We all kow that media bias is controlling who people vote for. And some of the mainstream media is getting paid very well for what hey report.

www.catholic.org put a great article that supports Mike Huckabee and talks about the un fairness that is happening in this race. The article is called "Let Huckabee speak" It is front page! Please go and read it. Not only are Protestants and Evangelicals supporting Mike, so are Catholics. As well as people who live with morals an values, common Americans are choosing Mike Huckabee. Please look carefuly at the candidates.

How low can Huckabee go? He''s so desperate for some media attention that he criticizes Mitt''s DIET? Good grief! In case you didn''t know, Huckster, Romney didn''t NEED to lose weight. Oh, and he has more hair too.

I can only say that Huckabee is the most pathetic politician I have ever heard of. Good thing he told us he was taking the high road in this election. Oh well, his record sucks so I guess ragging on Romney''s fried chicken eating is all he can come up with. Even McCain didn''t stoop that low...at least his latest lie about Romney has to do with issues.

jbrewster7 must get paid by the letter. You are racking up a bill only your buddy Mitt can pay.

Now lets talk about the real CHEAT. Mitt Romney can not answer questions for himself so he has to have someone feed him the answers. If this Cheater does this in a debate you know he will do or say anything to win. He can not be trusted!

Don''t believe me? Look at this video evidence. 3 videos and only a total Kool-aid drinker can deny this proof.

Huckabee is liberal debris.

Romney appeals to conservatives and will clean up in every Republican-only primary--here are the issues:

1. His clear stance on illegal immigration. McCain attempted to grant amnesty.

2. His stance on the economy. Mitt outclasses every candidate on both sides and will provide the middle class with tax cuts, and slash the ridiculous corporate taxes stifling business growth. McCain is a joke on this issue and admitted he does not understand the economy.

3. His stance on energy independence. Mitt understands the substantial investment required to develop clean, efficient energy resources but he is not going to punish the US by not drilling oil and refining gas--oil production in Alaska will not only be key to reduce gas prices for every American citizen, but will further boost the economy by providing an abundance of well-paying jobs. Remember the 80''s? Again, McCain is an ignorant liberal on this issue.

Romney will handily defeat the Clintons in 08''

"The success [in Iraq] is due to the blood and the courage of our servicemen and women... not to General Hillary Clinton"

Great response, Sgt. Campbell! I think that Romney must have a "backroom" that scours all articles that have his name included and with any that sound really close to the truth about flip-flop Mitt, the Romney, high-paid staffers go on the attack again and again and again....
I read the article, too entitled, "Let Huckabee Speak" and it is absolutely true! Did you catch C-Span this morning? GREAT answers from Mike about all the issues! Now if the "paid-by-Romney" media would direct those kinds of questions to ALL the candidates instead of their "boy", we''d have a fair and balanced debate, wouldn''t we? There''s another debate coming up this week in California...let''s see if the mediators blantantly and unfairly direct the questions with "meat" in them at just the "chosen one" or all the candidates! I''m not holding my breath! MIKE''S THE MAN!!!

you are right and e does have that romm, and he calls it the "war room" Mitt Romney was overheard telling his diciples to the the people on the phone calls anything you want.

That room stuffed full of young ment in white shirts and ties sitting behind monitors, with about 100 flat screens in front on the wall monitering every news article, broadcast and comment about him posted.

They are paid to say anything to make Romney look good and the other candidates look bad. I seen it on the news. It is scarey. That combined with Romney trying to buy everyone to buy America. we are in a fight for Freedom in our country. God, please help us.

If anyone thought this election wasn''t weird enouch just wait until Huckabee announces that he is going to be McCain''s VP running mate - all in the name of beating Romney.
The crazy thing is people will actually vote for that inexplicable combination of total opposites. McCain/Huck will choose collusion for their desperate effort to achieve the whitehouse - but neither is the right person for the work that needs to be done.
Mitt is It! I am amazed that people are so taken with McCain''s straight talk express, after he boldly declares untruths about Romney. McCain is the poster boy for the professional Washington politician.
I do not want him representing the Republican party - even with Huckabee as his VP. Shame on Huckabee if he does join up with McCain.

If you think that running government is like running a business, you''d better think twice. Yeah, skinless, that suits Romney to a tee. He knows how to skin more than just a deep fried piece of chicken:

At Bain Capital, Mr. Romney used offshore corporations to avoid U.S. taxation, and he fee-milked acquired businesses before firing workers and taking them into bankruptcy ( http://snipr.com/romneyoffshore ), to amass his great $250,000,000 wealth.

So, when you compare how Mr. Huckabee''s visionary FairTax advocacy ( http://snipr.com/nextrung ) compares to Romney''s interest in the current tax system, it''s pretty easy to see who will lead us out of tax slavery ( http://snipr.com/taxburden ) - $265 billion annual tax code compliance costs representing 5 billion wasted hours, annually.

Let the CEO of Overstock.com tell you how those "wizards of Wall Street" tried to ruin his company: http://snipr.com/nakedshortgdarkside

You think Romney will clean up the markets? Not a chance. Just like he''ll never get rid of the tax code - it''s just too plump pluckin''s keepin'' them "money boys" cluckin''s.

Omigosh - I cannot believe the commenters taking this article seriously. It is so obvious that he is joking what is the matter with you people?

What gripes me about this article is not that I don''t enjoy Huckabee''s sense of humor, but he has so much of substance to say and the media just totally ignores it - to the delight of all his bashers out there who would prefer people to believe that he has no substance.

He just posted an article on the value of & need for an improved infrastructure for our country, for example - where is the media coverage on that?

The astonishing disclosure that Huckabee usually eats his chicken broiled clearly has to hurt him with the fried chicken crowd!

This statement is going to haunt him for weeks. It will take more than few town hall meetings to clarify his position.

He''s going to have to demand special "Southern fried" preparation from now on for the entree at every chicken-dinner fundraiser he attends.

I just hope his gallbladder is up to the task.

Watch out folks! Mike Huckabee will finish strong in Florida and will be a big surprise in the Super Duper Tuesday contest.

He is the only candidate in the Republican Party who has actually put forth any substantial plans on how he would govern. He has taken the bold step to introduce America to the concept of a "Fair Tax", a bold economic initiative. He has proposed rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, something he did in Arkansas as Governor. This positive step will create jobs, good, paying jobs for Americans.

Mike Huckabee is a social conservative and a fiscal pragmatist. It would be rather refreshing to have a leader such as Mike Huckabee sitting in the White House; someone with a great sense of humor and who can communicate and connect with the American people.

I support Mike Huckabee for President of the United States.

Huckabee is not going to win anything anymore. As much as we like to hear his gaffes, he is out of the race for President following his defeat in South Carolina. He will still draw votes, but he can no longer win unless he pulls a miracle in Florida, meaning Jesus himself cheats for him.

It is down to Romney and McCain.

If he is lucky, Romney or McCain will pick him as VP. I am thinking it will be Romney, with the latest Rasmussen poll showing a 6 point lead for Romney. (33-27%)

Mitt Romney is not only duplicitous in his campaigning, he is also literally trying to buy the election. I think Ed Rollins'' feelings about wanting to punch Romney''s teeth in are very understandable. Only a mature and wise man like Mike Huckabee could respond to such an unprincipled SOB with gentle humor. Huckabee is so far above Romney in quality that there is no comparison.

Huckabee is the clear choice for president. His moral standing, common sense approach to the issues for all Americans (only Rep candidate to attend Martin Luther King, Jr. events) speaks volumes. If you have half a mind of your own, you can see through the white-collar pundits pushing their choice of Romney down their like-minded viewers'' throats. They prey on the ignorant who haven''t got the sense to do the research and instead are enamored with the "rich, much better-looking, brilliantly educated" candidate. Romney is the John Kerry of the Republican party, and if you haven''t got the sense to see through it, maybe you need to get an education at an average public institution like most of us poor idiots. The concern most Southerners fear is electing a President who is unable to fully relate to the south%u2019s strong southern values. For many years people of southern heritage has been viewed only as corn-cob pipe smoking hicks worthy of receiving the brunt of preconceived opinions bordering on intolerance, due to the profiling of all southerners together. Mike Huckabee has an obvious chip on his shoulder about all of Mitt Romney''s success. It is pretty obvious to anyone why he would feel that way when being compared to a brilliant and successful man like Governor Romney. The point is, Mike Huckabee''s mocking and personal jabs about Governor Romney''s success are not very "christian", especially since he advertises his great strength being his alleged christianity. From my personal bible studies, one isn''t a christian just by claiming to be one. One is a christian by being Christlike and applying the teachings of Christ. Mitt Romney has conducted himself throughout his campaign with real class, and as the true christian that he is.

Huck is not a legitimate candidate for the presidency. He''s anti-business and does not have the backing of the business half of the republican party. In all seriousness Huck would be a fantastic Democratic candidate, if the Democratic party was not married to the pro abortion and pro gay movements. This is now a 2 man race between McCain and Romney. Huck has about as much chance of John Edwards: no chance at all.

I have serious concerns that Mike Huckabee''s diabetes was brought on by careless, unhealthy eating and an imprudent lifestyle. His past lack of self-discipline makes me question that he has the good health needed to be president.

Contrast him to Mitt Romney--whom Huckabee mocks. Romney demonstrates lifetime, healthy lifestyle traits--he looks lean and strong, he eats and drinks wisely, protecting his health for the good of his himself, his family, and those he serves.

Due to the mounting diabetes epidemic, America faces a monumental medical care and cost meltdown due to unhealthy eating and drinking lifestyle choices. Congratulations to Huckabee for "flip-flopping" on his past unhealthy lifestyle choices, but congratulations to Romney for a consistent record of good health self-discipline--the kind of positive example America needs.

You know, it''s amazing... Mike Huckabee pokes a little harmless fun at one of his political rivals in an attempt at levity- incredibly miniscule in comparison to the unbridled attacks that the republican elitists and talking heads like Rush, Sean, Ann and the like, are hitting him with daily, and yet he''s the only one that ANYONE has criticized as being "un-christian"!?! What a bunch of hypocrites. Apparently the standard applies to one but not to all.

Huckabee is the ONLY candidate that has not resorted to negative campaigning in order to diminish his competitor''s reputations or records. In the mean time, Club for Growth has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars producing negative attack ads against Huckabee in order to try to derail his campaign. And now that Romney''s Bain Capital owns Clear Channel Communications, who, by the way broadcast Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and others programs, the on-air assaults have exploded! Gee, a little sucking up to the new boss, perhaps?!?

Mike Huckabee is a good and decent public servant who did an excellent job as Governor for the State of Arkansas, has more governing experience than ANY of the candidates, republican OR democrat, and has the moral compass that has long been absent from American politics.

Huckabee is the best choice for President in this election.

Mike Huckabee''s seemingly innocent way of "poking fun" at his political rivals (Mitt Romney)is only fooling the truly naive. The heart of Mike Huckabee was exposed when he maliciously spread serious slander about the beliefs of Mormons on national T.V., only to later acquiesce (after the damage was done)that he really doesn''t know much about the Mormon church. Precisely. How hard is it to find out the facts before one spreads the slander? What kind of man goes on TV and spreads an insidious lie about his opponent''s religious beliefs, and then, after the mischief is accomplished, admits he really doesn''t know much about the topic? So much for being a decent guy, much less a christian.
Mike Huckabee has obvious reasons to be jealous and angry. But being so sly, while cloaking himself in the banner of Christianity, makes him downright dangerous.

Let us be fair - when you look at "Srileygls" posts, particularly on p.2 where she asks, "Does Mike Huckabee think it is acceptable Christian behavior to be jealous and green with envy if and only if he is being compared to someone who is rich, much better-looking, with a brilliant education, a beautiful wife and five fabulous, adoring sons?" I am sure Mike doesn''t think twice about those issues, but apparently YOU do. I did notice that you left out "a beautiful wife" in your latest posts, bravo! Let''s not see where your true heart lies, shall we. If you didn''t catch the last debate, Mike told Romney that he should be very proud of his 5 sons; however, don''t think for one minute he cares what a "brilliant education" Romney has. Do you honestly think it matters where our president went to school? Did Jesus choose only the "best of the best" to be his disciples? You know the answer to that one, don''t you. He picked people like you and me. As to your thinking Mike is taking "jabs" at Romney, get a sense of humor. Oh, and by the way, all of Romney''s half-truths and distortions about Huckabee and McCain are the same as LIES, and we all know our commandments, don''t we? We all sin, so please do not put our dear Romney up on a pedestal. Huckabee has stated that he sins every day, we all do, so please admit to yours.

Sgt. Campbell, I could not agree with you more, and we all thank you for your service to our country! I am the proud daughter of a 30-year career Marine, full bird colonel. We must expand our military more than the 100,00 additional that Romney calls for. That is a drop in the bucket from the damage that Clinton did as president. Huckabee calls for a much bigger expansion. I am keenly aware of the terrorist threat to this country and that it has been knocking on our doors for DECADES, not the last several years. Our economy is vastly important, but it is NOT as important as securing our freedom. That must always come first; however, on the economy, Huckabee''s Fair Tax plan is the only solution that is fair for everyone, both individuals and BUSINESSES, and I feel he is just as strong as McCain on protecting our country. Reagan proved you do not need vast experience to have the fortitude to fight evil abroad. I was proud as a 10-year-old to have Reagan as my president, just as I want my 10-year-old son now to be proud of his next president - Go Mike!!! And to those purely "fiscal conservatives," you are losing much in not speaking to EVERYONE in our country. I don''t define our country as Republican/Democrat and winning at all costs - the Republican party has not been inclusive in such a long time and needs to be. You are losing and will continue to lose an audience that is tired of your drivel - I would much rather turn off the TV, radio, and spend some FAMILY time with my children.

And to the person who had serious concerns regarding Huckabee''s past diet history and diabetes, I would much rather see a president who has struggled with something and conquered it, then to have someone who has had a so-called easy life. I think it''s a tremendous testament to his character. In fact, in one of the debates, when asked what was one of your greatest mistakes, he talked about his past eating habits - someone who can admit to his mistakes - bravo!

gators4huck. You are not unlike Huckabee. You didn''t even address the entire topic of my last post. No matter. Huckabee is a non-factor anyway. His corny country-bumpkin cliches may work for him where he comes from, but he is clearly out of his league, and he should be increasingly embarrassed for every day he sticks around thinking he even has a shot.

I consider it an honor to be compared with Huckabee, and to not addressing your entire topic, another half-truth which is corroborated with innuendoes, it doesn''t deserve the time and attention. You are vastly naive if you think Huckabee is out of his league or that he doesn''t have a shot. Whose "league" should he be in? If Huckabee does not win the election, he will have succeeded in getting our country talking about what they want in a politician, someone who comes from the AVERAGE person and who has original, COMMON SENSE ideas to improve our country. It is rather embarrassingly obvious that you have not taken any time to look up his views, rather than just to listen to what our biased media (as if that has ever changed) have succeeded in telling you who to vote for.

gators4huck. Address the topic if you can. Address the fact that Huckabee knowingly, purposefully spread slander about Romney''s faith, and when confronted about it, admitted he didn''t really know anything about the Mormon religion. He did it purposefully, for political gain, which is dirty politics, not to mention completely unchristian behavior. Address that, if you can, without throwing out the personal comments and making vague references to half-truths.

For Srileygls: I take offense at your suggestion that I, and all Huckabee supporters are naive. I suspect that you think that all of Gov. Huckabee''s supporters are a bunch of Bible thumpers who can''t think for themselves. I have done my home work on ALL of the candidates, including Gov. Romney. Mike Huckabee displays the most consistancy on the relevant issues. Gov. Romney spent 4 years in Mass. and raised "fees" over $700 mil. and was "pro-choice" and "pro-gay marriage" until this candidacy. One of the most compelling reasons why I chose to support Gov. Huckabee is his connection with the "Joe Mainstreets" of America. I fear that Gov. Romney is completely out of touch with the "average" American. His recent statement on the downturn of the stock market in which he claimed that such a "downturn" doesn''t scare him, he rather sees it as a "buying opportunity". Last fall, during the debates, all of the candidates were asked how they felt the economy was doing. Every candidate, except Gov. Huckabee, gave the economy "two thumbs up". Gov. Huckabee instead commented that if you are one of the millions of people who actually work for a living to put food on the table and put you kids through school, things aren''t so good, and are only going to get worse. Gee, who was right about that? That''s called insight and a connection with the true pulse of the nation and not some "elitist" view from the other side of the looking glass.

I agree with Srileygls. Huckabee is NOT a gentleman and he is a poor witness for Christianity. He knowingly whispers untruths and does not denounce lying. He bears false witness.
