Obama to Receive Kennedy Endorsements

CBS News has learned that both Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., and his son Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., will endorse Barack Obama at his rally at American University in Washington, D.C. tomorrow. They will be joined by JFK's daughter Caroline Kennedy, who endorsed Obama in an op-ed in today's New York Times, according to sources close to the Kennedys.

The Kennedy endorsements come on the heels of Obama's huge win in South Carolina and provide extra momentum for his campaign as they embark on the run-up to the 22 Democratic contests on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5.

It remains to be seen what role Kennedy will have in Obama's campaign over the next 9 days. In 2004, after endorsing John Kerry, he gave Kerry a boost as he traveled with him in the days leading up to the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

Patrick Kennedy had endorsed Sen. Chris Dodd's failed presidential run and had been sitting on the sidelines since Dodd dropped out after this year's Iowa caucuses.

Caroline Kennedy, in her New York Times op-ed titled "A President Like My Father," wrote, "Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, to tie that belief to our highest ideals and imagine that together we can do great things. In those rare moments, when such a person comes along, we need to put aside our plans and reach for what we know is possible. We have that kind of opportunity with Senator Obama."

"I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans."

I think he feels it. He feels it just like Bobby did,%u201D Mrs. Kennedy told me that day, comparing her late husband%u2019s quest for social justice to Mr. Obama%u2019s. %u201CHe has the passion in his heart. He%u2019s not selling you. It%u2019s just him.%u201D

Well Social Justice is a wonderful thing but not my priority and it would not be social injustice to elect the first Women President albeit the electorate is 54 percent female, the economy is crashing, we have a war where tens of thousands have been killed and probably a 2 trillion dollar price tag, student debt minimum of 25,000K and an unemployment rate pushing up by year end of 7 percent, well the Kennedys are probably not hurting so I guess they have the luxury of being this arrogant. There is seriously something wrong with how Dems pick Presidents.

I agree that Teddy and relatives
are arrogant. I don''t think there
is any doubt that Clinton cares for
minorities just as much or not more
than Barack. She has the
experience and knows what she is
doing.

PS Kind of a novelty that Obama and Kennedy aren''t such long-time back-rubbers that the news organizations had to make up a little ''photo-chop'' to go with their headliner. I''ll bet they had thousands of photos to choose from had Kennedy stuck with the ''establishment'' . . . I''m so curious about the real story behind this endorsement . . .

PS Meaning they''d have likely had thousands of actual photos showing Ted together with the Clintons given their long-time association, and that given they had a long-time association what went into Ted''s decision-making . . .

If anyone in the world had the information and experience to see the truth about Iraq, it was Hillary Clinton. Don''t you think someone who spent 8 years in the White House could predict what Iraq would become? Don''t you think someone who had been on the Armed Services Committee would know our intelligence was flimsy? The hell with experience if you can%u2019t get right the 1st time!

She put her electability ahead of her integrity.
She put her personal advancement ahead of the lives of American soldiers.
She traded votes for death.

Hillary is totally unable to be objective of our national financial sovereignty because she and her husband have been so compromised by their financial dealings with the very countries at issue in the decision.

Saudi monarchy been permitted to purchase an important equity position in some of America''s leading banks? How can Hillary be objective when the very same monarchy donated $10 millions to the Clinton Library and Foundation?!

The Saudis (Arabs) donated to the Clinton''s Library and personal bank account. This was discovered by the New York Times when the information was inadvertently posted on the Library''s Web site. Soon after the story appeared, it was taken down. The Clintons refuse to reveal the donors to the Library or the related Foundation. Hillary and Bill have also refused to release their income tax returns, despite the fact that Bill willingly released his when he was running for president.

It is for exactly this kind of situation that the Clintons should be required to divulge the extent of their involvement with foreign interests and exactly how much money their personal bank accounts and their Library/Foundation have received.

Eileen Wellstone, 19-year-old English woman who said Clinton sexually assaulted her after she met him at a pub near the Oxford where the future President was a student in 1969. A retired State Department employee, who asked not to be identified, confirmed that he spoke with the family of the girl and filed a report with his superiors. Later Clinton was expelled from Oxford and lost his scholarship.

During Bill Clinton''s impeachment trial, Juanita Broadderick testified against Clinton. Her account of her rape was so powerful that it convinced 40 wavering Republicans & Democrats, who otherwise favored censure, to vote to impeach Clinton.

Clinton simply bring way to much Baggage to the table and she is not right for the country as President.

Obama has the ability to bring in disaffected republicans like myself and seems to be on the brink of a new era of politics.

I just hope Obama taps Edwards for VP AND NOT HILARY

Sorry, but one term in the Senate is not enough national experience. The only thing else that qualifies is mayor of a major city or governor of a state.

Obama does have tremendous leadership potential, but he will be a better president if he either does at least another Senate term or garners some other kind of major public leadership experience beyond just state representative and less than one term in the Senate.

A scum bag endorses an inexperianced propect, (a Kennedy endorsement, no less, and this is good news?)If this country votes in a Democrat expect to pay more taxes, never be able to afford a house, remain in Iraq, regradless of what they say, and get nothing done. Hasn''t Congress showed you this already? Being naive to facts for illusions of empty promises is being stupid.Saftey before economics, because without foreign affair experiance and actual achievement youb have disaster, folks.

Let us look at the whole picture. Of course it is good to get endorsements. But what we need to see is who will be the best person to lead us into the future. We need someone who can transcend race, creed, gender etc..etc. Sure the president has a lot of power, but in order to lead us forward, it is not just one person. It has to be someone who can reach out, across the whole political spectrum, work with liberals, conservatives of all races. Does anyone seriously see that in a Clinton? They (yes, they!) have already caused divisions within their own party, and the past has shown that even in the 90''s it didn''t work. Can you envision them helping this country to work together?? We should not and must not allow this to happen. Allowing the Clintons to "rule" again will bring us to such a deep chasm that several generations wil suffer the consequences.

If Hillary is really for women''s rights, then how could she stand by Bill while he sexually harassed women?! She did nothing about it. Instead she smeared the women. Then stood by him while lied on national TV to the American people. The Clintons have no honor, but too themselves!!

For women that are supporting Hillary%u2026why? Do you really think if Bill sexually harassed and/or assaulted you, your daughter, or granddaughter%u2026Hillary would do anything about it?! Not! Hillary would smear name & character and spin the situation to her favor. She doesn%u2019t care about YOU! She cares about POWER!!

The Kennedys just went down about 5 points in my estimation! To compare Obama to John F. Kennedy is laughable.

Can you see Obama writing the ''In Berlin'' speech on a napkin on the way to a presentation..."Uh, when I was working in the projects on the South Side of Chicago....."

Good Lord! As a 47 yo lifelone Democrat from Ohio, I''ve never seen such a collection of losers endorsing a leading Presidential candidate in my life! First, John Kerry and now Ted Kennedy . .. who''s next Edmund Muskie (oh wait, he''s deceased!) But why not, roll him out too! Ted Kennedy''s endorsement is no boon to the Obama campaign, but rather may make it go bust! How many times did Ted run for the Presidency and lose? And, Ted Kennedy is like red meat to the Republicans . . .they''ll eat Obama alive over Kennedy and Kerry (two elitist East coast liberals) if Obama should happen to become the nominee. Heaven (or maybe Hillary) help us if this is the best we can do!

Hillary Clinton, who was close with the Walton family, served on the Wal-Mart board from 1986 to 1992. In 2006, her Senate campaign returned $5,000 to the company''s political action committee while citing differences with company policies.
A blind trust held by Clinton and her husband, the former president, included stock holdings in Wal-Mart. They liquidated the contents of the blind trust in 2007 because of investments that could pose conflicts of interest or prove embarrassing as she ran for president.

It is quite unfortunate that Americans cannot agree to disagree and still be civil to one another.

The ENTIRE world knows what a great president John F. Kennedy was. Who knows him better than his own family? If THEY feel that they have found one who reminds them of their father, brother or uncle who are we to question? The undisputable fact is that JFK was able to inspire a generation of Americans.

From the outside looking in, the same thing is happening with Senator Obama. There is a slight quiver in America and it appears that it might build into a rumble. Those of us who are not Americans but are viewing this WISH we were Americans because it seems that for you, more than once in some of your lifetimes you have found another great leader. Americans are fighting to be heard and it appears that they have found their voice in Barrack Obama. The character of a man is so much more important than his experience.

Caroline Kennedy is absolutely right. Think about it - would you prefer a person who is decent, honest, and inspires to date your son, daughter, mother or father? Or would you prefer someone with experience? Experience does not count for much these days, you only have to look at your economy to see all the failing businesses, but at the same time all the money your CEOs of those same companies are banking.

We have a saying in my country - choose your choice. Do that and then live with it. But there is no need to belittle others if they disagree with you.
