Huckabee Defends Joke About Fred

(CBS)
From CBS News' Joy Lin:

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Asked about Fred Thompson’s “hatchet” attack against him at Thursday's Republican debate, Mike Huckabee joked to Joe Scarborough that he thought “Fred needs some Metamucil. I think it would help a lot if he gets some. You know, he was in a bad mood last night.”

On the bus with reporters on Route 96 in Michigan from Lansing to Grand Rapids, Huckabee explained his Metamucil comment saying, “You have to understand the context of the show….It’s not quite as irreverent as Imus…not quite Stephen Colbert but it’s serious topics with an edge.”

“I really do believe if people can’t have some sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to be so locked down and consultant driven that their campaigns become so boring because all they’re going to do is give this robotic answer to everything that’s very carefully scripted. I promise you, you won’t have moments like this,” Huckabee said, gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.

“Does Romney do these?” Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.

“If I thought I couldn’t be a human being. That I gotta wait till six handlers tell me what I can and can’t say and I have to read it, you know, it’s not worth it.”

I agree with Governor Huckabee that Fred should take some Metamucil before the debate from now on, better yet why does he just drop out before he further embarrasses himself. He should go back to getting his work scripted for him, but then again it looks like he is still having that done for him.

Unfortunately, Fred is in this race in SC to do McCain and Romney''s bidding. Now, here is why!

Mike Huckabee is moving quickly to the top nationally for the GOP. He has said nice things about John McCain, all true. Mike Huckabee respects John McCain and McCain knows this. So, rather than McCain attack Mike, he has Fred Thompson do it and Thompson''s attack in the debate was totally baseless and without merit. As far as Romney is concerned, he is still hurting from Iowa and doesn''t want to appear revengeful, but he is and he will continue to let Fred do his bidding.

Its all politics as usual, but, Mike will rise above it and still become the Republican nominee.

Someone should tell Michigan that Thompson and McCain have NO executive experience and Romney''s a flip-flop.

I don''t see a better choice than Huckabee. And I like the fact that he is HIMSELF and can freely talk to the press without all the "handlers" checking everything he says. Mike Huckabee is one of us.

Huckabee thinks this race is a joke, a one-liner. Thompson was right in charging Huckabee with liberal economic ideas and Huckabee can''t defend himself. We don''t want amnesty, the fair tax will break the middle class, small business, and farmers(check it out further), or runaway spending in Washington. Huckabeee will give you all of that and more. Wake up, voters. Thompson cares about this country, Huckabee just wants to be your friend. Huckabee is not to be trusted, he doesn''t even know how to quote the bible correctly.

To LarkinMead, Fred Thompson is in this campaign to win. He dances to no other candidates tune. He knows what this country needs and he will deliver. The rest of these candidates just want to be your friend until they get your vote then forget you. They won''t care what this country needs. You have been reading too many blogs-it''s a stupid rumor that has no point but to put Fred down. NO FACTS backing it up.

Michigan & South Carolina,

America%u2019s only choice for President is clear. Don%u2019t be suckered in by the elite media%u2019s propaganda. Tens of millions of dollars was donated by Wall Street to purchase the White House in this election. Some candidates are just too old or too liberal to win. Please remember, the rest of the country is waiting and depending on you (Michigan & South Carolina) to give us the opportunity to elect Huckabee and say no to big government, Wall Street, and the elite media. Those Americans who never had a set at the table, who don%u2019t have the big money or a voice in this election are waiting to cast their vote for Mike Huckabee. Please provide America%u2019s true conservatives the opportunity to vote with you and elect Mike Huckabee President. No more Presidents from Camelot!

What an embarrassment Huckabee would be as President. His lack of maturity and wisdom on the national stage are so evident. The American people want solid answers on the issues, not continous quips.

Instead of answering the obvious and factual charges against the Huckster he chooses to try and make jokes to excuse his liberal agenda...we will not allow him to escape any longer;

If there are any real conservatives here who think Huckabee is their candidate, I believe they have thoroughly checked his record in Arkansas. Yes, he is a good Christian man; but, this election is not about electing a U.S. Pastor; it''s about electing a President and Commander-in-Chief. Please, people. Do the research necessary to make a fully-informed decision. We don''t need a comic, skilled at one-liners instead of substantive answers. We don''t need someone with either no experience in foreign relations or someone who is mimicking Senator Thompson''s Plans and Policies. We need Fred! Check out his detailed, substantial policies and Plans at Fred08.com
Your time there will be very well spent.

Correction! If there are any real conservatives here who think Huckabee is their candidate, I believe they have NOT thoroughly checked his record. That NOT is all important!

Fred made Huckabee''s record clear. It doesn''t surprise me that Mike would respond like a liberal who attacks the messenger always does. This is coming from a guy who obtained his foreign policy experience by eating at an International House of Pancakes...

Lets give just $44 dollars more to help get our 44th President of the United States elected! I started by making the first $44 dollar donation. He needs our help more than ever.

Please donate here at Governor Huckabee''s website. Thanks and God Bless!:

Mike Huckabee is really a democrat except for his social views. The fair tax proposal is a joke. It will mostly benefit the rich. Huckabee talks about how he can relate to the average citizen. What Michigan needs is not an average citizen who the unemployed can relate to but someone who can bring back jobs. Mitt Romney is the most capable of all the Republican candidates. If you need a pastor, go to church. If you need a financial guru to get the U.S. back on track, Mitt Romney.

Fred talks policy and records and Huckabee makes potty jokes.

Now which of those two people do YOU want for President?

Fred Thompson--the clear conservative choice, hands down!
