A few ground rules:
Questions must be serious and substantive. (But witty and substantive will also be accepted.) No questions about hair, makeup, shoes or wardrobe. Please. Pretty please.Got that? So take a moment, scratch your chin, chew on your pencil, and then drop us a line.
Questions must be brief and to the point. We may edit them for length, clarity and, yes, grammar.
To keep our e-mail box from being overwhelmed, we’re going to ask that you limit yourselves to one e-mail per viewer.
We would appreciate it if you would include your name and hometown . They may be used if your e-mail is chosen and posted.

Thanks for the invitation. I'm assuming this is e-mail [ couricandco@cbs.com ], from "E-mail Couric & Co." on this page.
Thank you.
I am apalled by many aspects of President Bush's policies but as someone who grew up and was in the army in the VietNam era, I am apalled and ashamed of what is going on with soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan. In VietNam, soldiers served ONE tour of duty (13 Months) and never had to go back unless they volunteered.
Watching RESERVES and NG go back multiple times is very disturbing. This is a case of the govt taking advantage of people who signed up to be available in times of emergency. After 4 years, it is hard to see this as an emergency except for the lack of planning of the federal govt.
Why is no one harping on this mistreatment of our brave and loyal reserves? If Mr. Bush wants to wage a multi-year war, he needs to tell the nation about what we need to do with the military to make it happen including a draft which will certainly lead to the defeat of republicans
Thank you

Why be so hard on the TSA. They reacted quickly to be sure that the threat would be eliminated. Then, after more detailed study and experimentation, they have released a less restrictive and more helpful rule. This doesn't make things more confusing and if anyone thinks so they can simply ignore the new rule and continue to carry nothing onboard. The bottom line is that they're only working to protect us.

I would like to know how they can justify spending more than a million dollars on the superdome when there are STILL people in New Orleans who are homeless. I love football too but I believe that the homeless are FAR more important then the superdome.
Thank You

I saw your story today about the 1st armored division-what wasn't mentioned is that this is the SECOND time this unit has been extended. The last time they were there, they were extended an additional 3 months to a very violent section of Iraq. Now they are being extended another 46 days -they are in Ramadi-another very violent area of Iraq. As I have a soldier in the 1st armored div, I thought this fact needs to come out too. It might be interesting to find out how many units are extended and how many TIMES they are being extended...

Personally, if I had my way. The troops and agents would have a shoot to kill anyone crossing the border illegally. That may not stop them, but it would sure slow them down.
To begin, the United States is a free market, and as such its citizens are rewarded based on what the market will yield. I am willing to wager that the anchor%u2019s salary is less than that of revenues generated by her contributions, i.e. additional viewers and advertising.
Her journalistic merit has also been questioned. If you want character stake-burnings, I think Chris Mathews is the show for you. If not, there are plenty of other shows that will probably fit the bill. I do believe that journalistic merit can be found in cordial exchanges if you look for it. This isn%u2019t Perry Mason.
And lastly, I have been unable to clearly derive a clear political orientation of the anchor based on her broadcastings alone. The scope and variety of stories covered have pretty much led me to believe that the content is pretty much down the middle of the road. But then of course, that is the silent majority.
As a life-long (so far!) fan of CBS News, I've enjoyed the fresh format you have brought to the Evening News, together with deep respect for the past. Cronkite's voiceover introduction, clips of Douglas Edwards, Edward R. Morrow's "See It Now" theme on the web site, and the continuation of Bob Schiffer's innovations during his watch, have given me renewed confidence in you carrying on and expanding the CBS tradition. Keep up the good work!
I was wondering, with all the years you've been a reporter; what would you consider to be your best and worst day as a reporter?
I wanted to ask you, does it bother you some of the cruel, and rude remarks people make about you, and you're journalism, and the News has gone to fluff? I love the way the news has changed, and I will continue to watch CBS News as long as you sit in the anchor's chair!
Not many people can say they've traveled the places you have, talked with the people you have, and seen and heard some of the things you have. So, what is that one profound life changing moment in your career as a journalist that sticks out in your mind and left you thinking "this is why I do what I do?"

In my modern lit. class we are studying news and the media. My group members and I were told to we have to send you an e-mail asking you questions. We have three questions for you. Which did/do you prefer working for NBC or CBS?
Do you regret leaving the today show? and lastly, I remember when I was little and before school in the morning I would watch the today show with you and Matt Lauer, what moment was your most memorable. Thank you Katie for reading this and answering our questions.
Sincerely,
Megan
Have you come up with a signoff yet?
Chris
I know you are still settling in at your new digs with CBS News, but when you get a chance would you consider doing the following:
CBS, ABC, and NBC are reporting on the same stories every night. It makes for really boring viewing.
Pls convince your bosses to let you direct the story assignments of your reporters so you will bring us the news, rather than just repeat it.
Each one of your field reporters can tell you where the stories are before they actually happen. Trust them, let them cover these stories for you and put this good stuff on the air!
Use your boradcast to give us the news...we really need to hear it, not just a repeat of another networks' mush.
Take care!

While not necesarily current news, would it be possible to pull out some of Bush's claims and statements from interviews prior to going into Iraq and analyzethem now? For instance, I remember him being asked by reporters how we know for sure he is not bringing us into another Viet Nam and his evading the asnwer with rhetoric about how patriotic he is etc., implying they were unpatriotic for even daring to ask. The similarities to Viet Nam are now becoming more clear, as Bob Schieffer commented last week (along with pictures of him having served there which was a nice touch).
thanks

See all 21 CommentsFirst, Congratulations on your work so far as anchor of the CBS Evening News. It has been a pleasure to tune in every night.
My question is, what are your routines during the week? What time do you come into work and how often are you out of the office doing on site reporting?
Also, can you believe you used to wake up so early?
Thanks and best wishes for continued success,
Christine in San Francisco
