'You're not my sister Maya, you're Myron my brother' CBS Daytime's B&B Reveals Transgender Character

For two years on Bold and the Beautiful, character Maya Avant has been carrying a secret. She was born a man. She's transgender.

In an unexpected plot twist, her sister Nicole told her, "you're not my sister, Maya. You're not Maya at all. You're Myron, my brother."

The other twist is in reality, the actor who plays Maya (aka Myron) is not transgender.

The beautiful Karla Mosley is very much a woman. She told USA Today at first she was surprised to learn about character arc "because 10 or 20 years ago, this is not a story we would be telling, and not in a way that's truthful and not sensational," she said.

"My second reaction was, 'Thank you.' It's a gift. It's a privilege," she told the newspaper. "It's a real opportunity to educate our viewers here and all over the world."

Mosely is not the first transgender to play in a soap. In 1995, there was a transgender fashion model on ABC's The City, and in 2005, All My Children's Zarf came out as a trans woman and changed his name to Zoe.
