You Can Own A 260-Foot Long Steel Bridge For $100,000

FOSTER CITY (CBS SF) -- It's not every day a fully-functioning, quaint steel bridge goes on the market.

Thermo Fisher Scientific, a biotech outfit that's closing its Foster City facility, has plenty of high-tech gear it needs to sell, in addition to a 260 feet long red-and-white bridge that connects the plant to other other buildings across the channel.

The company hired start-up Silicon Valley Disposition to sell the bridge quickly, which has involved reaching out to over a couple dozen Bay Area municipalities and government agencies, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Bay Area Toll Authority, who already has enough bridges to deal with, said the bridge could be a good idea for cities building a bike or pedestrian path.

A used bridge of this size usually goes for $100,000 -- a fraction of the price for the cost of a new bridge. If the bridge doesn't go to a new home, it will be broken down and sold to recyclers.

Any takers?
