Woman Rescued From Overturned Truck Along Flooded Road Near Petaluma

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- Firefighters rescued a woman trapped in a vehicle surrounded by rising water in the North Bay Wednesday.

It happened in the community of Wilmar, west of Petaluma, after the driver of a pickup truck drove into standing water on Valley Ford Road.

The truck flipped on its side and the driver was able to get out. But his girlfriend who was a passenger inside remained trapped inside.

She was partially submerged in the water as the pickup was wedged against a telephone pole.

For about an hour firefighters performed a complicated rescue, at times working below the water line.

Eventually the woman was rescued from the the truck and taken to a hospital for evaluation. She was said to be in good condition.

Officials urge drivers to never try and drive across a flooded road as it doesn't take much water to get stuck - like in this case - or be swept away.
