Woman Killed In Maui Shark Attack From Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A woman killed in a shark attack while snorkeling off the coast of Maui was from the Bay Area.

Margaret Cruse grew up in Marin, and moved to Hawaii in 2000 after retiring from PG&E.

Her brother says his 65-year-old sister had an adventurous spirit and loved the outdoors.

Cruse was snorkeling with friends Wednesday when she was attacked.

Maui Fire Department said swimmers found her about 200 yards from shore and brought her to the beach. Paramedics attempted lifesaving efforts but were unsuccessful.

Cruse's death was the first fatal shark encounter in Maui this year.
