Woman Gives Birth On San Francisco To Phoenix Flight

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A woman flying from San Francisco International to Phoenix gave birth on her Southwest Airlines flight early Tuesday morning.

Flight number 623 left SFO at 6:24 a.m. bound for Sky Harbor International, but was diverted to LAX after a woman went into labor just after takeoff.

"Luckily a nurse and doctor were on board," Emily Samuels of Southwest Airlines told KCBS. "I can't comment on their condition because I'm not a medical professional, but it was a pretty exiting day."

111 people were on board at the time of the birth. It wasn't immediately clear who delivered the child, but everyone arrived safely in Los Angeles.

"They'll certainly have a story to tell," said Samuels.
