Woman Dies In Fire At Castro Valley Condo

CASTRO VALLEY (CBS SF) -- A two-alarm fire at a Castro Valley condominium Sunday morning left one woman dead, according to fire officials.

At 6:16 a.m. firefighters responded to a townhouse in the 20000 block of San Miguel Avenue, according to Alameda County Fire Department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles.

The fire occurred about 150 feet away from an Alameda County Fire Department fire station. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the unit of origin, Knowles said.

Firefighters knocked down the fire by about 6:30 a.m. The bulk of damage occurred on the townhouse's second floor, according to Knowles.

An adjacent townhouse was evacuated but it was not immediately clear if that unit sustained damage.

The identity of the victim has not been released and a cause for the blaze remains under investigation.
