Home Invasion Robbers Target Grandmother Caring For Infant Granddaughter In Fremont

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- Police say two robbers used duct tape to tie up an unsuspecting grandmother who was babysitting before ransacking her family home.

Police say the crooks moved in on the unsuspecting grandmother through the sunroom in the back of the home after opening an unlocked sliding door.

"She was cooking," said daughter Terri Phan. "They came around and they bind her and they made her drop the knife into this sink."

Police say the 57-year-old had fallen over and blacked out, but later crawled to her cell phone and called a family member, who dialed 911. Her husband came home to find her on the living room floor.

"She's on the ground, she's cold, she's hyperventilating, she couldn't breathe, her eyes were almost rolling back," recalled Phan.

The crime happened while her granddaughter Haley slept in the hammock nearby. She wasn't hurt, but the men made off with a few designer purses.

"We don't carry cash in this house. We know that Asians are targeted and known for carrying a lot of cash and we understand that. We don't do that," said Phan.

Fremont police say the motive remains a mystery.

Both suspects were described as Asian men between 30 and 35 years old with black hair, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds and wearing short-sleeved white T-shirts. One was wearing a baseball cap.
