With Online Holiday Shopping Season In Full Swing, San Francisco Start-Up Doorman Aims To Keep Packages Safe

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – As more and more people turn to shopping online during the holiday season, a San Francisco-based start-up is vowing to keep your packages safe from possible thieves.

CEO Zander Adell describes his company Doorman. "It is an on-demand mobile service that you use from an app. Once you sign up, you get a new shipping address, which goes to our warehouse," he explains. "Once your packages arrive, you get a notification on your phone and you can schedule home delivery from 6:00 p.m. until midnight 7 days a week."

So far, the service is only available in San Francisco, but Adell said they plan to expand in 2015.

Online shopping is convenient because you don't have to deal with the crowds at malls. The one inconvenience is the package delivery process, where you may get a note left on your door or have your package left on the doorstep, where it could be damaged or even worse, stolen.

"The package delivery system right now is pretty frustrating. You get either a missed delivery sticker on your door, your package is rained on or stolen, or you get to spend a Saturday at some pick-up center miles from your house," said Adell. "[With Doorman] you can now shop online as much as you want without having the anxiety of thinking the package is not going to get to you."

The cost is $3.99 per package, or unlimited package delivery service subscriptions of $19 or $29 per month.
