Wildfire Burning In Southern Monterey County

LOCKWOOD, Monterey County (CBS SF) -- A wildland fire is burning about 200 acres in southern Monterey County, prompting the evacuation of some 200 homes in the area Monday afternoon, a Cal Fire spokesman said.

The blaze was reported around 4:10 p.m. in an area near Interlake Road in the rural community of Lockwood, located about 90 miles south of Monterey, according to Cal Fire.

Approximately 200 homes in the area have been evacuated as a safety precaution, Cal Fire spokesman Jonathan Pangburn said.

About 125 firefighters were battling the blaze as of 5:15 p.m., he said.

There were no reports of injuries or structures damaged.
