WHEN AND WHERE: More BART, Traffic Disruptions Planned During #MLKShutItDown Weekend

(CBS SF) -- It's the calm after the spoon-banging storm that shut down three San Francisco BART stations Friday morning. But it won't last for long as activists are planning more disruptions to protest police brutality across the Bay Area this weekend.

Oakland-based Anti Police-Terror Project is planning the 96 hours of action as part of a national call to "Reclaim MLK's Legacy."

Activists plan to join thousands around the county in part of a Ferguson action while paying tribute to Dr. King's legacy of military direct action in opposition to economic and police violence, according to a press release on Indybay.org

The next disruption is planned for 10:30 p.m. Friday with a rally at the 16th Street BART Station in San Francisco. More protests are planned for Saturday in the Mission District and on Sunday in Oakland with a march from the Fruitvale BART Station to Coliseum City.

Demonstrators in East Oakland are demanding that developers and city officials create a local hiring policy that ensures 50 percent of the jobs go to people of color and the disenfranchised who are on probation and parole, in addition to a health impact assessment that lays out how many Oakland residents will be displaced as a result of the the Coliseum City development.

For MLK Day Monday, activists are planning an "unspecified action" West Oakland BART at 9 a.m.

On Nov. 28, protesters chained themselves from BART trains, traveling in both directions, to the platforms at the West Oakland BART station disrupting the service through the Transbay tube for several hours. The 14 protesters who were arrested said the transit agency is trying to make them pay restitution along with being charged with other criminal complaints.
