West Nile Virus Spreads In South San Francisco, Livermore, Mosquito Fogging Scheduled

(CBS SF) -- The West Nile virus has been discovered in a dead bird and pool of mosquitoes at Clay Park in South San Francisco, and at the Bruno Canziani park area in Livermore.

The San Mateo County cases were found on August 19th, and fogging is planned for a half-mile radius around the region of South San Francisco, Daly City, and Colma on Thursday, August 21st from 9 p.m. into Friday morning at 5 a.m. San Mateo West Nile spraying information is at http://www.smcmad.org

In Alameda County, fogging will take place from 10 p.m. Thursday through Friday morning, depending on weather. Both truck-mounted fogging and aerial spraying will be used. The area includes East Ave. on the north; Buena Vista Ave. on the west; S. Vasco Rd. on the east; and Tesla Rd. on the south.

Vector control manager Chindi Peavey said, "The continued presence of West Nile virus infected mosquitoes at this site is a threat to the health of people living in this neighborhood."

California has had nearly 1500 dead birds, 2,000 mosquito samples and 93 people test postivie for the virus.  Four people have died this year.
