Weekend Storms Dump Heavy Snow On Sierra

INCLINE VILLAGE (KCBS) -- Heavy snow has been falling in the Sierra this weekend.

Chains are now required for Bay Area drivers heading to the Lake Tahoe area, on Highway 50 and Interstate 80.

The heavy snow has also brought the official opening of the new ski season in the Sierra, and resorts are hoping for a good year despite several years of drought.

"Mount Rose and Boreal on the north shore have both opened up and got underway; certainly limited by rain, but happy to have the doors open, and people up on the slopes," Incline Village CEO Andrew Chapman said.

The weekend storms could drop up to 16 inches of snow on the slopes.
