Watsonville: Suspected Gang Member Shoots 13-Year-Old Boy In The Head

WATSONVILLE (CBS SF) - A 13-year-old boy is fighting for his life in a hospital Saturday after being shot by a suspected gang member in Watsonville on Friday night, according to police.

Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting around 7:55 p.m. in the first block of Loughead Street, where they found a boy on the ground in front of a home suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The boy was taken to an area hospital for treatment and remained in critical condition as of Saturday morning.

Police said he could only provide limited information about suspects due to his injuries.

However, officers learned that a group of males believed to be gang members apparently approached the boy and shot him without provocation, police said.

Police said investigators do not believe the victim is affiliated with a gang.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call the Watsonville police crime tip line at (831) 728-3544 or the police investigation bureau at (831) 768-3350.
