Watsonville Police Fatally Shoot Suspect Who Fired On Officer During Pursuit

WATSONVILLE (CBS SF) -- Police in Watsonville fatally shot a suspect Saturday evening after the suspect shot at an officer, striking the officer in the torso.

At 6:21 p.m., police located a man on the Pajaro River Levee, who police believed was armed, according to police.

The suspect fled on foot from the officers, heading towards the riverbed, police said.

As two officers chased the suspect, the suspect shot at the officers, striking one, police said.

The officers returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect, according to police.

The officer who was shot was taken to a trauma center and is in stable condition, police said.

Police have not yet released the names of the suspect or the officer who was shot at.
