Watsonville Man Allegedly Assaults CHP Officers While On LSD

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- A Watsonville man was arrested in the Santa Cruz Mountains Monday morning after assaulting two California Highway Patrol officers while allegedly under the influence of LSD, CHP officers said.

Marko Manojlovic, 29, allegedly hit about 40 of the 28-inch reflective cones marking a lane closure in a construction zone while driving a white Toyota Corolla north on state Highway 17, south of Sugarloaf Road in unincorporated Santa Cruz County.

Manojlovic also crashed into a temporary metal sign reading "left lane closed," CHP officers said.

A CHP officer nearby saw that the Corolla was dragging the cones and metal sign, and notified another officer in the area.

Both officers tried to stop Manojlovic on Laurel Road just east of Highway 17, but Manojlovic drove the Corolla into a metal fence, got out of the car, jumped over the fence and ran down the dirt road, CHP officers said.

The officers ran after Manojlovic and caught him, but he assaulted them, kicking one officer several times.

Scotts Valley police and Santa Cruz Sheriff's deputies arrived to help the officers.

Manojlovic was taken to Dominican Hospital, where he was medically cleared, and then booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, evading arrest, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer.

The police officer was treated for minor injuries.
