WATCH: Hayward Artist Builds Robin Williams' Portrait With 600 Rubik's Cubes

HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- A Hayward artist unveiled his stunning tribute to the late actor Robin Williams using 600 re-purposed Rubik's Cubes.

In a two-minute video, Pete Fecteau and a Corte Madera School student first created a digital template before arranging hundreds of cubes into a 5-foot image of Williams sporting his signature goofy grin.

A fan donated nearly 700 cubes to the artist -- the same day Williams took his own life in Tiburon. "The day [the cubes] arrived was the day we lost Robin and I just had to do something," Fecteau said in a written statement.

Fecteau, who specializes in large-scale mosaics, is auctioning Williams' portrait for charity on eBay with the bid starting at $2,000. All of the proceeds will be split between the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and St. Jude's Children Research.
