Warriors' Thompson Reaches Scoring Milestone

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson reached a milestone in his young career, becoming the first player in NBA history to hit 500 three-pointers in his first three seasons.

The Warriors posted on Twitter that Thompson reached the scoring achievement during Wednesday night's loss against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Through Wednesday, Thompson has made 500 three-pointers out of 1,226 attempts, according to STATS LLC. He has made 178 three-point shots so far during the regular season, with sixteen games left to play. Thompson is averaging 17.9 points a game this season.

Thompson was drafted by the Warriors from Washington State in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft.

Team officials said Thompson will not be in attendance for Friday night's game against Cleveland after his grandfather, Dewitt, recently died at his home in the Bahamas. He was 94.

It is unknown if Thompson will return for Sunday's game against Portland.
